So the new Matrix was disappointing.

No wonder Lilly didn't want anything to do with it.

I'm loving it right now. But I'm a totally biased opinion. Nostalgia be dammed.

Loved seeing a dank warehouse with action that was too close to the characters and awful, awful versions of characters that were played better before.

Resurrections is sustained on nostalgia, drama and romance. Action in the movie is pure shite. But somehow, the movie is decent.

It's amazing to me Lana made a Matrix love movie based on the least believable aspect of the original films. I've spoken about this before but the Neo/Trinity romance(?) in the original always felt so poorly executed, obviously not helped by the fact that Keanu can't act for shit of course. I think I posted about it here and got some pushback but I watched it again recently, in the film they meet....stuff happens and then Trinity is in love with him? What? There isn't one single scene between them meeting and her declaring her love where they're just together, enjoying each others company etc etc.

The film makes no effort to establish that as a relationship, which......is fine! Matrix was an action film primarily so it really didn't matter. But to take that relationship and use it as the basis to build an entire film around.....woof.

I enjoyed Resurrection. Part of what made the first so good was the reveal. This had a little of that to it as well as none of it made any sense at first.. Can’t believe someone didn’t like the first 5 minutes

The action being worse almost makes thematic sense. Dudes struggling to fly remember.

I thought new Agent Smith had the charisma of a damp towel and while Morpheus was better, the script let him down.

Agreed, both the new Morpheus and the new agent Smith did a great job. Bugs was also really cool, there was so much swag to her.

Yeah this one actually lived up to the hype for me. Easily one of the best, if not the best film released this year. Beautiful as well.

And damn, that message near the end about one of the kids who was interviewed having been shot dead.,

M4trix is good, but you need to leave all your preconceived ideas of the matrix at the door and be prepared for a new approach.

As for the action, yeah, it's dour and less refined, that's kind of OK. In revolutions, Neo and Smith were full on DBZ.

The first 30 minutes are fantastic, I could watch a whole film where Neo is in a pitch meeting where people are deconstructing the matrix.

that whole DBZ fight scene in Revolutions was a big roll eye tbh.
