Never actually watched GiTS, just loved the animation so I know it'll be incredible at 4k. Pretty sure I fell asleep during the first 10 minutes of 2001 so we'll see how it works out this time.

This would never have some big names, budget is rumored to be between 40-50M, the cast is huge and there's a lot of special effects.

The first MK movie was a big success and Mortal Kombat is bigger than ever so it would be a safe bet for a movie.

I just found out Daulph Laundgreen made a movie based on the Dead Trigger mobile games.
This thing has been happening for a while, I think Hollywood is just starting to noticed that they need to actually work a bit on the movies for them to be successful and the quality of the movies seem to be improving.
Didn't watch Pikachu but that was apparently ok, Sonic was very charming and entertaining, Mortal Kombat seems to be respectful of the source.
I really like what I am seeing. Just love that "stab, turn the blood into ice and use it to stab again" move is so fucking cool.
Speaking of cool things, I hope the rest of Junkie XL's soundtrack for Zack Snyder's Justice League is as good as this track.

The Rainbow Six movie isn't based on the games but it in the books, they've been trying to adapt it since 1995 and it's coming out on Amazon Prime in April, there's 0 mention of the games in the marketing.

There's something more to it than games themselves making money. Otherwise we would have seen proper Halo, GTA, Elder Scrolls, Minecraft adaptations already - and yes I know some those are coming, but if was just down to the strength of the industry we would have seen at least one or two of them by now
