I've never seen Mulan.
You missed a few, Horse.

Rewatching the Matrix films (I count reloaded and revolutions as 2 parts really)
The first Matrix is still an action classic to this day, I love how visceral the action is while being somewhat grounded in reality (they never went too far with the bullet time stuff which is a good thing, unfortunately less so in the next two films but whatever) Keanu is still very wooden as Neo but it suits the character I think. Weaving and Fishburne clearly understand how silly the material is so they ham it up as much as possible which is great fun to watch. It's a simple and really well-made film that has all these layers if you really want to go deep into it.
Having just rewatched the first hour and a bit, of Reloaded, it's a boring first hour. Scenes go on far too longer than they need to (why did the sex/rave scene need to be that long?!), the dialogue is nonsenical and it feels like the plot of The Rise of Skywalker which was a terrible film all round lol. Even the action feels boring and weightless so far, it's really baffling considering how much they got it right with the first film.

I just rewatched all of them plus Animatrix.
Other than the first movie, I think the The Second Renaissance might be my favourite bit of Matrix media.

Someone like Sy is going to come into the thread and say lesbian nuns are bad and it is going to send me directly over the edge.
By SavageGordonLung Go To PostWatched Benedetta. Recommended if you like lesbian nunsthis again?

if it had been made in the '70s, it'd have been regarded as a classic today.
verhoeven is a victim of father time.
Halfway through Cloud Atlas. Very enjoyable, not been bored at all, even if I’m not entirely sure what the point of it all is beyond ‘reincarnation and same souls m8’. Must have been a fucking nightmare editing this film.
The yellowface IS bad though. Like, yikes. Well intentioned but clumsy as fuck.

But I also really enjoyed Matrix 2 and Matrix 3 - I understand their flaws but the movies continued the storyline, doubling down on everything, and had some incredible action scenes.
The park fight was just way too ambitious for what was achievable at the time.
First Matrix's charm is it pushed technical boundaries whilst not trying to take the piss.

By s y hulud Go To PostI don't think any movies special effects aged worse than the park fight in that matrix movie
it already looked bad when it come out.
Still good fun with some good choreography though. And a dynamite Weaving performance. I like Reloaded. The car chase is an all timer.
That mud rave in the second Matrix is still hilarious
I’ve got tickets for Spider-Man in the afternoon tomorrow, first movie since Covid and I’m hyped

Yeah even now the Zion stuff does not hit at all. Also kind of funny how Matrix is kind of fairly chaste in classic Holywood fashion, and then Reloaded just goes full horny.

I was impressed rewatching the Matrix trilogy just how many black, brown, Asian etc. actors are in both prominent and extra roles throughout the series. Zion is full of non-white figures. I like the shade it adds to them wanting to be freed from old white bitches like the Architect and the Agents. There’s a lot of non-conformist identity at the heart of the trilogy that really speaks to the transition both Wachowskis would go through.
Hyped for the next one. Spiderman is whatever, but one thing both Watts and the in-house Marvel vis people don’t seem very capable of is good action. Gimme Wachowski action, brothers. Need something to tide me over until MI7 and Furiosa.

By Daz Go To PostCloud Atlas is great.
It’s ambitious to a fault, but what ambition. Great reading how much Hanks, Berry, Broadbent, Grant rate it - they all think it’s the best thing/one of the best things they’ve ever been part of. Hanks says its the only film of his he’s seen more than once or twice.
Grant did admit Paddington 2 was the best thing he’s ever been in tho #trufax
Looking at Watts's filmography and seeing he made that cheap and terrible clown horror movie (and almost fuck all else) is lol. Feige ain't even trying to keep up this fiction.

edit: damn it, not quick enough
Ok
so Reloaded got better as the film went on
Hugely flawed but there’s some great action in there. I’m a sucker for well-shot and edited action and the Wachowskis do a really good job here with the framing and blocking when it’s clearly physical action. That highway scene was just amazing to watch.

Yeah that highway scene was badass, they built the highway just for the film.
The fight scene in Merovingian's mansion Chateau was also incredible.

Hats off to the marvel fans. This 4gb camrip of spiderman is the highest quality bootleg I've ever seen. Seinfeld must have directed it himself.
