Adam McKay is shit. Peaked with Step Brothers. Stop trying to be smart and just be stupid. Didn’t smile once watching that. He is a smug fuck boi.
Thought the film sounded interesting....until I saw that trailer. Pretty fucking bad, only way it could be redeemed is if the comet actually destroys Earth at the end

That's pretty sad considering that's also an OK at best film
Step Brothers is a banger. So is the first Anchorman.
Everything else he has made is just varying shades of dirt from a dog and I include The Big Short in that.

Yep. YouTube ‘explained!’ masquerading as a movie

In The Mood For Love one of the GOATs
Fallen Angels is a banger too and better fits what you describe.

DAMN that’s an awesome list (the lonely neon ones)
Watch all of the Hou hsiao-hsien films on there, the best living director. Millennium Mambo specifically is one of my favourites of all-time
Taipei Story is also so so good

Not on my distro of choice and no legal alternatives here, other than be a fucking animal and buy a physical copy from abroad. But i am no animal. sad.
Anyway got more than enough films lined up right now. Mood For Love and Fallen Angels are ready to go in the coming week.
Edit: Taipei Story i already had waiting too. But going with these two first I think
Brother I've watched lots of good films recently.
If this fucking director dares play california dreaming one more time though..

Tick...Tick...Boom! getting some nominations for awards and Garfield already winning one for his portrait of Johnathan Larson makes me happy.
It has to be my favourite movie of the year so far.
It's funny how I thought that the songs weren't catchy yet I've been listening to the soundtrack every day for the past 2 weeks.
It's a great story about creativity, perseverance and that failure can be a stepping stone to greatness.
It's a celebration of musical theatre as it shows how the late great Sondheim was a major influence on Larson, who in turn ended up being the reason why Lin-Manuel Miranda started doing musicals.
It's been a while since I couldn't stop talking about a movie for weeks and trying to get everyone to watch it.
And that motherfucker Andrew Garfield said he couldn't sing and it turns out that he is a great singer.

Congrats to Garfield, always liked him more than Heathcliff (fucking poser, the Jared Leto of cats).

This is from Windshield Wiper, a short film from Alberto Mielgo's team(Spider-verse, Love, Death Robots, etc) and VERY NSFW. The works from Mielgo are the only ones in the world of 3D animation that excite me visually.
I wonder if his stuff is feasible for a full length film, even with Spider-Verse, Sony fired him and streamlined the look to get the movie made.

the beatles: get back is magic. unlike most band documentaries that mostly focus on the relationships within a band--and there's plenty of that in here--this also gives you a fascinating insight into their songwriting proces. as someone who is always curious about how songs come to be, this is truly great stuff.
at one point, you can see mccartney jamming on his guitar and see how "get back" is born, and how it evolves into what it ended up being.
there's also a great bit of ringo playing what he has of "octopus's garden" on the piano after which george helps him flesh it out a bit:
i found an entire audio recording of that day on youtube where you can hear a lot more of how they fleshed out the song:
this is must-see if you're even remotely interested in music.

Damn this looks fantastic. Spiderman looked good too, but this is another level. Anywhere to see this already? Google isnt very helpful
Re: Get Back ^. I thought bits of it were fantastic, the ‘Get Back’ bit, the video clips there, and the profile it gave of each of the Beatles. Poor George in particular - you can tell John and Paul didn’t respect his songwriting.
Too long, though. Lots of filler, and I think you need to be mega mega interested in that filler for it to be worthwhile.
