Enjoyed the Bride of Frankenstein a lot, it was fun seeing Karloff emote and speak lines as the Monster. The iconic sequence of the Bride being born was surprisingly short, I expected a longer scene. Still absolutely iconic for sure tho.
Hitch can get to fuck for not liking b/w films, there's real beauty in the shots here.

Hyperion oh damn!
Could be magnificent or a huge pile of shit.
Adapting it should't be as hard as Dune/Foundation but the budget would need to be big with all the strange alien worlds.

Now that Eternals is Marvel's first confirmed rotten movie (58% RT right now), make way for a true comic book movie masterpiece.
So Sony owns the film rights to Spider-Man and his villains?
If Fiege doesn't want to be working in McDonalds in a few years, he'll need to bend the knee to Papa Sony.

yes but only if they keep making Spiderman movies.
also make a marvle thread.
By Punished* Go To PostThe Big Sick was a good film.
Headline sent a shiver down my spine.
Finally watched Dune. On the whole I loved it. Audio/visuals were absolutely 11/10 top-tier stuff. I like the characters, the world building and the overall narrative a fair bit too. I do agree with the criticism that the movie doesn't have much of an emotional heart, only character the film actually makes an effort for the audience to really care about was Duncan, which is a bit of a failure on the part of the movie.
It's why I wish there was a 'Villeneuve cut,' Will.
Strange to be sitting here and saying 2 and a half hours isn't long enough, but it kind of isn't.
I have seen some people pushing that part 2 will fill in some of that... but I'm unconvinced.

By s y Go To PostMovies don't need an emotional heart
Yeah sometimes, but Dune certainly thinks it has one (and intends to). It just largely misses the mark in that regard.
I thought Duncan sucked. Momoa just playing Momoa again.
The emotional heart of the film is Jessica.

I don't think Duncan was an amazing character or anything, but his scenes certainly devote more time to trying to get an emotional response from the audience.
Jessica is emotional, I'll give you that.
but his scenes certainly devote more time to trying to get an emotional response from the audience.
Big disagree. That would be Paul and his mom. From her panicking outside the room during the Home Jabbar scene, Paul and Jessica in the tent after escaping, Leto asking Jessica to protect Paul, etc.
Mamoa had like 4 scenes and 2 of them were just fighting scenes.

I really think they fall flat though, that's my point. Personal opinion of course but it's one I've seen around quite a lot, again...I LOVED the film, I just don't think it pulled off the quieter, more emotional scenes particularly well.
You thinking they fell flat is not the same as
but his scenes certainly devote more time to trying to get an emotional response from the audience.

Maybe when everything is released they'll make extended versions.
By s y Go To PostYou thinking they fell flat is not the same as
Off the top of my head, Duncan's final scene is just as long if not longer than all the scenes you mentioned which SHOULD have a lot more emotional heft to them than Paul's mate dying
By Lupercal Go To PostVilleneuve said the theatrical release is his Director's Cut and he's not interested in making another cut of it.Yeah, I saw that.

Just has been in my head since I saw they filmed the dinner sequence and it wasn't in the movie. Given the density of the universe, in an almost LOTR sense, I'd love more.
By Daz Go To PostI thought Duncan sucked. Momoa just playing Momoa again.Duncan actually got more depth than in the Lynch version. I agree that they could have flashed him out more, but given his fate and stuff that will follow, I think it was okay.

There are other house Atreides characters that you'll see again.
My favourite character was the Duke.
His gallantry was flowing from the screen. Dat beard, Isaacs just vibing the whole time. There's like 10 years or so between him and Charmander but I believed he was his daddy.

it's 16 years actually so not improbable in a world where you need to produce heirs.
(it's 36 years difference in the books)

skarsgard reminded me so much of brando in apocalypse now, which is one of denis' favourite films.
i need the uhd. no redux, though, please.

Watched Heat for the first time last night. Brothers, it was long.
Did like it though. Very pretty film and Pacino is fantastically entertaining pretty much every second he's on the screen. The Moby track kicking in over the final scene felt a bit weird but not in a bad way. Just didn't expect it. Great scene, mind.

Just saw The Last Duel, it was decent, almost tipped over into parody at times tho :lol
Lots of bad hairdos and bad overacting. Interesting story tho for sure.
Spoiler: could have done without seeing the actual rape twice

went and looked at the soundtrack, forgot all them gems…
the insider has a great soundtrack, too.
This was really all very big yes
One of the shots had humans life-sized in proportion to where i was sitting in the theater, giving a window effect, and it took four seconds for my brain to rewire itself. Felt like a good version of Star Tours
