Yep, it's a new year and films which were delayed in 2020 are coming out this year....what ones are you looking forward to? Is HBO Max/WB the new standard going forward? Will cinemas survive? Will Fast 9 end the blockbuster as we know it? (it wont, lol)
Watched JB: Spectre yesterday. It was... alright? Not as good as Skyfall, but had me entertained. Waltz was really underutilized though :|
By Wahabipapangus Go To PostIt's already out? thought it was 2021. Going to find a copy right nowIt was, got released on VOD today. It's not terrible, Chlöe Grace Moretz does a decent job and the synth soundtrack is great but, damn, this is a stupid and completely bonkers movie.
Some of the decisions are so fucking bizarre. The big reveal had me laughing.
So Maude (CGM's character) has been put on a plane with orders from the top to carry a confidential item to safety.
The rest of the crew starts thinking that the item that is stored on a small bag with some air vents has to have something to do with the fact that a gremlin is attacking the plane.
What could it be? Some kind of mystical object? Well, it's...
a baby. Not a demon, gremlin baby, or a baby with some strange powers. Just a regular baby.
Maude is married but her husband is a drunk that beats her up so she decided to join the Air Force to help her country and run away from her husband.
She had an affair with a guy that's actually part of the crew of the plane, got pregnant but didn't tell the guy, her husband found out and went to her base to threaten to kill her so she decided to forge all the paperwork to run away with the baby.
I said that the baby doesn't have any powers but that isn't true. The baby has to be indestructible, there's no way a regular baby would survive any of this shit.
That bag is shook so many times during this movie, that baby has to have some severe brain damage. So, thanks to all that we get one of the strangest endings of all time where a bloody and battered Maude is breastfeeding her baby while looking at a crashed plane on fire followed by a montage of archive footage of women in the air force during WW2.
By Kuma Go To PostI dont even know what coming out this yearMortal Kombat, The Matrix 4, Top Gun 2, Fast 9, Dune, Uncharted, Spiral, Halloween Kills, A Quiet Place 2, In The Heights, The French Dispatch, The Green Knight, Minari, No Time To Die, a bunch of Marvel movies.

By Lunatic Go To PostAnybody catch MINARI yet? Is it any good?
Fantastic movie
got to the part in parasite where the guy kisses an underage girl. I can't stomach to watch any further. It makes sense that hollywood gave this best picture now.

By Lunatic Go To PostAnybody catch MINARI yet? Is it any good?Looking forward to it, but I won't debase myself by watching a 720p screener.
it's bad.
but also still better than the ones with that dumb garfield cunt later, which made me never watch a super hero movie again.

Edit: spider man 3
By diehard Go To Postpsy how many times do i have to tell you not to make it too obviousI'm serious. The Spidey mcu movies are the most empty, bland films I've ever seen. theyre fucking awful.
They feel like they were made by a computer program. There's nothing in them, no good performances, no cool action scenes, characters are forgettable. It's lifeless to the core. I wish I knew more about movies so I could better articulate why I find them so terrible.
Spidey 3 is no good but it is faaaaaar more entertaining than homecoming or far from home. It feels like actual human beings were involved.
Shiit, the opening fight scene and the sandman sequence make it better than almost every mcu movie.
This single action sequence has better performances, action, music, cinematography, etc than anything in any MCU movie.

I've been going buck-wild for Morbius for months now friend. Your ableism isn't welcome here.
By sy or die trying Go To PostI'm serious. The Spidey mcu movies are the most empty, bland films I've ever seen. theyre fucking awful. The studio shoehorned in an annoying version of Spiderman's biggest foe into a movie that it's director didn't want and it showed. I only casually watch most superhero movies but Spiderman 3 is up there with the worst ive seen. I would describe it further but your summary of the Spiderman MCU movies fits pretty well for Spiderman 3.

It's Raimi's fault for trying to make a movie with an antagonist he found interesting instead of the most popular one

I can see that director vs studio battle in the movie.
the mcu movies are perfectly asembled, precedurally generated dogshit. there's no direction, no studio, just the brand.
By sy or die trying Go To Posteven the description of the movie's development lets me know it's better than the MCU movies. Spiderman 3 doesn't get bonus points for being a mess.
sy watches movies on a phone with content creator commentary on top. #standards
Let's not pretend he has respect for this here game.

Watched the Hill on iPlayer. The Brits really are bastards. Pity the Pawnbroker is not on streaming, never seen that Lumet. Or Fail-Safe for that matter.

Enjoyed His House quite a bit, has some really good sound design and it was better than a lot of the films I saw last year lol
I've finally watched The Favourite. While it is a enjoyable movie, I wasn't as bowled over by how it ended. I'm unfortunately years late on the discourse, but I don't know if the journey was worth it to just have Abigail end up essentially where she started at the beginning at the film.

Olivia is great. Rachel is great. Emma is great. The all sound good and appropriate and proper. I just had a subdued feeling at the end of it. The level of satisfaction in the ending didn't hit the mark for me. Oh well.
