i got really, really lucky with some of the guidance i got from people outside my family and being able to actually recognize people trying to help me. i definitely rocked more than a few jaws as a kid over racist shit. there's only so long you can play that game impulsively though. after that, you gotta find ways to handle situations that work for you and still solve problems.
we'd go off post to grab lunch every day and our section leader used to always go out of his way to make sure it was 3 black people + 1 white person driving back through the gates to get on post. diversity & awareness & team building
in less than 2 weeks, that one white person would ALWAYS ask why the fuck that vehicle would get searched so often. the real gem was one time me, two other black guys, and the relatively new white girl are riding back onto post - the gateguard no bullshit told her to cough twice if she needed help lmao
By Tony Hank's Pro Skater Go To PostI think being raised around minorities is probably the best way to have perspective of their struggles and actually empathize. If you don't, it's something that hardly ever will cross your mind. You can do it later in life, but it's not the same. You're very impressionable as a kid, if the people who you live around or spend most of your time with are dealing with bullshit and in pain because of it, you'll be a lot angrier about it than as a grown up.actually, this reminded me of a thing we used to do in texas lol
That's just how I see things anyway.

Very well, which is why they allowed me out. Have to go to a local hospital weekly after this though for a long time, to keep adjusting anti rejection meds. Organs are weird, and you're never completely out of the woods

Harder than winning the lottery at this fucking point.
By Andrew Go To PostCivil service.I scored surprisingly high in their last session but the interview was on day two of my new job back in July so I didn't go for it (CS was a fair bit more money too). Actually it should be no surprise I scored well because the tests were the exact same as the ones a year previously.

Worked in the public sector for 18 months prior to the pandemic and enjoyed it. I had no chance of progression in that job but it was totally stress-free and had flexi. Remember seeing some of my co-workers watching Netflix in the office :lol

It's a stress free flexi filled life that will allow you to take a month's leave to travel the world at the drop of a hat. I've came to really appreciate that over time - especially during the pandemic. Progression is kind of fucked though. Internal, and even external at times, competitions are held once every lunar eclipse and good luck when they are. Could be waiting on a list until the heat death of the universe.
Just very difficult sometimes to get permanency given 10,000s apply for some of these competitions and god knows how many are interviewed.

tinnitus is absolutely brutal and i 100% get why people just commit that. holy fuck this has been a rough month
By DiPro Go To Postdamn i'm sorry. it's not going away?comes and goes. the last really bad spell i had was a few years back. think its just gonna get worse as i get older. the last serious talk i had with doctors about this motherfuckers told me no options but therapy on how to manage it better.
its too hard to deal with bullshit like "you seem to be handling x well" while also dealing with the issue itself. i'm kinda over the worst of it this time but i hope surgery or something is an option now...
jesus christ. truly sorry. hope there's something that helps. i heard so many horror stories that i'm always scared when it rings for a few seconds.
anything specifically that triggered it?

By DY_nasty Go To Posttinnitus is absolutely brutal and i 100% get why people just commit that. holy fuck this has been a rough monthI am there with you. I noticed mine lessens a bit when I can actually relax my jaw. I went to the dentist today for the first time in forever and they verified that I do clench my jaw all the time and it could lead to adding extra pressure that causes the ringing in my ears. They fitted me for a night-time mouth guard that should get here in the next couple weeks.
If that doesn't work, then, yeah, I have heard the same thing you did when I wen to a hearing specialist: learn to ignore it because you can't make it go away.

im a lot better now than i was a week or two ago but man.... if someone mentions they're dealing with this kind of thing, its no joke. at least with other stuff i could hear myself think.
Feel for you, dy. I've got tinnitus from a lifetime of loud music and metal gigs. There was a point where I managed to train myself to ignore it, but I've got a constant hiss in both ears that I'm right now aware of because of this thread fml.

my mum had it severe. I remember the hospital giving her some sort of noise machine to help her sleep and hearing aids tuned to counter the wail of her tinnitus. Doesn't affect her as much anymore because of it.
It's 2022, we really need a pill or something for it.

He uses psilocybin to lessen the effects and he's been semi successfull these past 3 years.
Does a light dose of shrooms every 2 months 1-2gr and helps.
Also helps for his migraines.
kind of wild how prevalent alcoholism is. Feels like an expected trait among young people(especially women, anecdotally) since pills have the front page.
