I'll get drunk either way. I'm the happy chill drunk. Without at least a bit of libation I'm insular and uptight in big social situations.
By Daz Go To PostDoes everyone here drink?
By Lunatic Go To PostThe question should be does anyone here not drink
That's actually the same question
We spent a lot of money on my wedding and it was a fantastic day but when I reminisce about it I get anxious about the speeches and things like that. The main cost was paying for food and drink for 120 guests so unless you can cut down numbers it is going to cost a lot. Thankfully a lot of my guests paid us back with cash gifts.
My wife loved it but I probably wouldn't rank it in my top 10 days after the birth of son and seeing Chelsea lift numerous trophies etc.
Honeymoon in Italy was great though

Just got a 10k salary raise effective immediately out of the blue today. Seems they are really trying to retain me. The MD asked for a 1 on 1 informally and told me because of my performance she requested a salary raise before year end review and bonus.
By s y Go To PostCongratulations šThanks sy!
Also you should really try to market your artistic talent. You have a niche skillset that not most people have so take advantage of it!
By s y Go To PostIt's over for me breh but I appreciate it.Man aren't you like in your mid to late 20s? You got plenty of time. I'm 34 and just recently figuring it out.

By reilo Go To PostCongratsThanks, it's still crazy to think that this all came from me quitting a shitty ass job last year August with no back up plan for me to fall back into. I recognise that I was privileged enough to have a supportive family regardless of them not being happy about my decision but all of them still gave me emotional and some financial support. This current opportunity came just a month after quitting. Never thought it would end up this good.

This current opportunity came just a month after quitting. Never thought it would end up this good.I did the same after my first job and it paved the way to see my salary nearly triple in 2016 from what I was making in 2013. No backup plan, small amount of savings, lots of grind but much better for my mental health. Sometimes the only way through is out.
I will say though, don't get complacent and expect them to do the same again next year. If you have to ask for the raise, ask.

I was planning on asking for one regardless in the ball park of 10k more than I'm now on. So 20k more than before this raise because the market here has inflated for my specialisation. As this was before my year end I'm going to let them know I want to know the pathway to SVP from my current VP position. I am already getting poached and other companies here are offering more than I'm currently on so it will be a hard decision coming up in a month.
I do like where I am now but with with current housing prices and wanting to support my mom I really want to make more. I guess I should be happy the position I'm in.

sy you know the industry better than i do but all i can repeat is that i have friends working good jobs with half the talent you have. they got a start in there and worked themselves up yet you somehow seem to think you need to be a drawing demi-god just to get a job.

Everyone believes in sy except the one person that matters, himself. Sy pls you talented af. Get that money.
It's an interesting topic... when did you first notice racism or have an experience with it first hand?
I never actually really recognised it until I was fairly old at 14-15. Then everything that happened before clicked like oh that's what that was šAgain I will preface that I was fairly sheltered from actually real life effects because of who my parents and extended family were.
By s y Go To PostI'm sure most have gotten the casual "you're so well spoken".šThat's a given and also gotten the "You talk white" from fellow multigenerational citizens.
I'm not black but I got stopped by the cops walking around the block to my friends house when I was like 8 because I was wearing red shirt and sweatpants. I grew up in a white ass neighborhood and I remember them asking me if I was in a gang and I didn't even know wtf a gang was at that point. I just wanted to play Goldeneye and swim in the pool with my friends.
I remember being 11 and hearing my oldest cousin (basically a generation older than me) tell my father an incredibly racist joke, except I didn't understand how racist and offensive it actually was, and then I was dumb enough to tell that same joke to an entire classroom a few days later (it was actually some kind of assignment to tell a joke... or something like that).
11 years old, stupid as hell. I still from time to time look back to that moment thinking WTF.
Same year, there was one black girl on the school bus, and a group of kids just relentlessly mocked her all year long, and I was again either too stupid to recognize it or too timid to push back. I'd like to think it was the former, but I also feel bad for her, as well. She did not deserve that.

As you get older you understand and notice things better so as long as you change and grow that's what matters most. Everyone of us was a shit head when we were younger.

i dont really remember not knowing about racism because my grandma was always talking about "cracka devils" and whatnot. i used to get in a lot of trouble repeating shit she said, because she had a real comedic way of talking about white people. as an adult I realized no she just really really really hated white people and for good reason given her experiences.
i've told this one before but the earliest actual incident i can remember was 4th grade when we'd discovered that nutpunching each other was painful and funny. and one white kid (who participated in the horseplay) snitched it. the SRO (white) pulled me and a couple other black kids and threatened to take us to jail over horseplay. the other kids were crying and i remember thinking "wait until my mom hears about this". i don't think i've ever been so excited to get home and tell my mom that I'd gotten in trouble at school because i know the cloth my mom is cut from. and while she might get on me in private about it, she was riding w/ me no questions asked when it came to facing some white people getting out of pocket.
long story short the SRO got reassigned to another school and my mom got a personal apology from the principal (also white) for them grossly overreacting to some horseplay. i still dont know exactly what she said in that meeting but boy the look on their faces when she came out the office was priceless.
