In the morning when I sit down to start there’s usually 50-80 new emails in the group mailbox we work from. Most are stuff you have to handle, others just mark as read, and the remaining are things for other people because there’s usually 5+ addresses the email also goes to. Like Lunatic said yeah it’s a working globally thing.
Blowing my mind how big some of these companies and institutions are and how many moving pieces are happening behind the scenes

By Lunatic Go To PostNot when most require answers and you are working globally. Especially if you are the process owner. Meetings I would say are fucking filler.i'd actually take meetings over 5 emails about what to bring/discuss at said meeting
its fucking rare that any process requires daily interaction with a sole point of contact either. that's just asking for a disaster or maybe its a position created to take blame idk
edit: i've been working 'globally' my entire career lmao i'm calling shenanigans
Dy you work in financial services? Only time I find meetings useful are when it's trying to resolve an issue with a client. Otherwise most can be done through emails without people trying to play politics and talk the most bullshit.
I just hate when people actually want to talk in emails. Spare me the prose flex. Just tell me what you need, when and where. Yes/No/Etc
If I ever open up an email and see a paragraph it’s back burnered. It’s rarely that important if you had time to write all that

no finance or banking specifically, counter threat finance for a while though. and its why i'll never go near that field again if i can help it.
and i'd still say there's no *efficient* global process that requires multiple daily interactions with a single point of failure too. that's deliberate compartmentalization - to what purpose is contextual ofc but finance is inherently full of and driven by bad actors so yeah maybe its normal lol

By Perfect Blue Go To PostWell the other half of the team I’m in work on a 12 hour time difference lol no other way to coordinate stuff besides emails.if we're talking about emails to an office/section instead of the individual specifically then im not talking about the same thing
Why the fuck is everything finance - I hate it, trying to get out but everything seems to be fucking finance.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostWell the other half of the team I’m in work on a 12 hour time difference lol no other way to coordinate stuff besides emails.Ticket systems work just fine for that. :v
There is even automation to turn an email into a ticket. Of course, ticket systems have their own unique challenges. But it does allow for more efficient triage, imo.
By Kibner Go To PostTicket systems work just fine for that. :vFor sure. I do believe there is some ticketing system and that was used prior to WFH but once the pandemic hit a lot of processes had to change because certain things were office only. Like we don’t have access to a Bloomberg terminal remotely i have to email someone to send me screenshots lmao

Had an interesting afternoon. Signed up to do observations of ULAs/GTAs for the maths department. Was doing my last one this afternoon and the bloke doesn't show up. After 10 minutes, I decide to fill-in so I taught my first in-person class for the first time since the pandemic.
Imagine the bad luck of those students, instructor doesn't show up but a spare teacher was in the room.
FF, the fuck you doing.

Went today to visit my parents, brother, and grandma at my old home in the suburbs and fucking hell it can’t be understated how dire it is to drive out there on those giant, depressing high ways. If I didn’t have them to visit I’d never venture over there.

Not everything can be about Catholic Subway, m9

This isn't roundtine, this is trolling, there are rules.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostBrampton lolAhh browntown (colloquial) is different for sure. Must be difficult dealing with an immigrant family. I would have thought you would have been in Maples.
By diehard Go To Postone day i'll have less than 260 or so, one day.thats insane
By Rich Homie Juan Go To PostOnce again we have reached the weekend friends.Your week ends on a Friday? I’m jealous. 5 hours deep on a 12 hour night shift with two more to go. I’m not seeing sunlight or tasting freedom until Monday morning
Time to walk with God.
How many weeks a year do you earn? I get 4 weeks of vacation time and I currently have .25 annual time
I get 4 weeks + 3 days of PTO currently, plus 11 officially recognized holidays and 2 personal holidays. Next year, I'll get an additional week of PTO.
Only 5 days are allowed to carry over into the next year (you lose the rest), it's not like diehard where he just accumulates them and apparently doesn't take them. There's a rumor diehard took a day off back in the aughts, but I think that's mostly a myth.

Either a PI or a gun. Possibly both.
All this talk of vacation time makes it even more clear to me to get off the contractor teet once and for all!

By Old King Rob Go To Postdiehard if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your job?ehh "Systems Administrator" is my title. VMWare/Storage/guy the helpdesk always falls back on
I have 15 days out of 25 vacation days remaining with most of that time off booked for already for Q4. I know they will force me to take some more time off as they rather not pay me. Only taken 1 out of 10 sicks days this year. They better pay me for this level of commitment. I guess it helps my case for a raise and/or higher bonus 🤷🏾♂️
Was diehard the one that said he never travels anywhere or was that data? It explains the vacation days so much. They’re interchangeable to me at this point.
