By Perfect Blue Go To PostGot another interview slated next week, this time for a back office role in wealth management. It's entry level af but I don't care, as long as I get in that'll allow me to move around the organization.yeah man! Good stuff!
Thank you, friends. <3
Not too stressed about it one way or another which is great. I'm due for a long ass vacation so if I don't get it, no biggie.

It's been a while since I've posted a update in the Life thread, and 2021 has been wild for me. I lost my job in January. Completely out of no where. Never had a performance write up or HR issues. I was asked to join a Zoom meeting on a workday and that was that. My coward supervisor (who I had 1:1s with every week btw) refused to answer why I was being let go, and left me with HR in the Zoom meeting. The first time this has ever happened to me, and it felt very personal. They offered me a severance, and...I was unemployed.
Furious, I hit the phones of old recruiters looking to see if they had any leads or openings anywhere. I had two interviews lined up the very next week. Did horrible on both because I was still raging about what happened the week before.
A few weeks pass and I get a hit on a position for another company in the same industry. One thing leads to another and I get an interview, then a second interview, and then a third "virtual onsite" interview that was hours long, and they rotated people in/out every 30 mins. I felt pretty good about the company. It was in the same industry, and on the totem pole, this one was more prestigious than the trash company that let me go.
After a nearly 2 month process, I was offered the job a few days ago. Negotiated a bit higher base pay, and they upped the signing bonus. I signed the papers yesterday. The twist? It's in New York City. I'll be relocating during the summer, once my non compete Agreement expires.
This is a big life move, but one that we decided to take on. Don't know what to expect. My wife nor I know anybody in NYC. But the company and the opportunity was one that I had to at least try, and if it doesn't work out, we move back and I at least have this experience on my resume. The fact that I was let go by one company and ended up at a more well known and regarded company is pretty great. Everything happens for a reason. They're also giving me the signing bonus before I even start

Whoa.. congrats, smoke! But NYC is a huge move. Aren’t you from Houston? I’m personally not a fan of moving to NYC but you gotta take the opportunity if given I suppose.
thanks brehs
yeah i'm in houston. i work in fintech (financial tech), and those firms are all going to be close to the chicago exchange or nyse. so we'll try it and if it doesn't work out, i at least got the resume looking pretty.

Your supervisor sounds like a prick. Did they ever give you a reason for letting you go?

That first paragraph is an instant lawsuit in California.
I know NY was a tough one for you, but ok glad you’re taking the chance and landed on your feet and in a good way.

Luckily we had a pretty sizeable amount of money saved away due to us planning to get a house. And the stimmy checks hit, and the severance. Basically...socialism .
So we've been ok, but he can still fuck off.

If a company is dumb enough to fire someone without cause / reason, following a write up or an opportunity to correct, they’re opening themselves up to literally any wrongful termination claim a person could come up with. My wife just settled 50k a couple years ago for her company. Just prior to her getting there as HR director a manager did a similar thing. The companies lawyer considered it a win lol

my friend got quite the serious illness and after he came back a week ago they instantly fired him for "unrelated reasons", he's lawyering up and hopefully he gets at least some $. bunch of assholes.

If someone gets a severance package, that's not being fired, that's being laid off. Sure it wasn't just cost cutting?

Ahhh yeah duh lol.
But if it’s a layoff the company can’t fill that position for a year iirc

nope. they would've said as much and his demeanor was anything but.
they give severances either way at that company. there was a guy who was actively fucking up and wouldn't quit, and was waiting to get fired so he could get the severance package.
