My job pays crazy well, but I’ve been here almost 8 years and never been promoted in my life. It doesn’t seem like I’m getting any closer either, and in my 1-1’s with all my managers over the years, pretty much all I talk about is getting feedback about my performance, career advancement, how to get opportunities to gain experience to get promoted, etc. Yet I see other people able to get multiple promotions despite having been with the company less time and joining at lower ranks and now with higher titles.
On one hand I really like my salary and the salary bumps have been great but on the other hand I just turned 34 and I’m tired of being frustrated about this year after year. This is what they call “golden handcuffs” right?

By DY_nasty Go To Postwould've BEEN gone and moved upYeah. Changing jobs is the way to get a pay raise or promotion in that industry.
By Hitch Go To PostSomehow feels like a waste of money to go to the dentist and be told there's nothing wrongAt least they don't send you to a specialist to also tell you nothing's wrong for $300

By Celcius Go To PostYeah I think you’re all right, I’ve been here too long. Time to start looking for what’s next.8 years and never promoted is terrible. The freedom you will feel will be immense. As a general rule I wouldn't stay in a place if I haven't advanced in at most 3 years. They kept you trapped with salary increases I expect
By Lunatic Go To PostThey kept you trapped with salary increases I expectSalary increases but no increase in responsibilities? Sounds good to me

He'll definitely be asked why he's been in the same role for 8 years.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostSalary increases but no increase in responsibilities? Sounds good to meNah because you don't develop and you feel like shit because you haven't progressed in your life.

By sy Go To PostOk boomerEh. A really good one, say a sleeve, takes so much time and upkeep. If anything I'd say it's the millennial in me that doesn't want to sit still for the time it would take.
