Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3/NV all had save file issues that made them unplayable after a certain point for instance.

By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostFinished the main storyline. I left a backup save, because I want to finish the rest of the more "important" gigs, and go for another ending.so what about the gameplay/controls/quest design/combat/
I need to sit with this. On one hand it's got shit that I crucify other games for (plus some):
-No minigames
-No extra activities for the romance
-Bugs can get in the way of emotional scenes or engaging set-pieces
-The police are already a non-factor and the AI still manages to be terrible
-Audio glitches pop up, during the worst of times
-Bad UI
-The fucking montage should have been gameplay
The list actually goes on, and yet, it's still some of the most fun I've had playing a game like it.
-The freedom that you have to accomplish a mission isn't quite Hitman status, but it's beyond GTA and better than the most recent Dues Ex games.
-The sidequests are strong…like brolic. What the fuck at Sinnerman (and I noped out of this one) and the depression one…to start with. The politician one as well. Lizzy. They are ace at this shit.
-Night City has a lot of vertical space that you can traverse.
-Even if it doesn't want to say much of anything, the main story and how Keanu's character fit in it, played out well.
-It's fun.
I dunno. It's a mix of insane highs and genre quality of life changes, mixed with bugs that can break immersion in the most unfortunate of situations and the console scam. I'm not mad that I spent the bread on this…at all. I'd love to see them get a second try at the world and a sequel. Witcher fans gotta hold that, if were up to me. Shit, I might wake up and be like, "this is one of my faves now". We'll see. I still have missions to clear.
Now, I will say that this does the one thing that annoys me to no ends: and that is that you can tell a bunch of dudes (read however you want to) made the shit. It's really easy to pick up on when a character is talking, vs when the author is speaking through them. I haven't seen the blm dig, in game (I don't need to), but there were a couple of points where I couldn't help but be taken out of the moment, because the character started talking about shit that skewed a little to close to their real world controversy. That and the ads are all juvenile as fuck (mf'ers must still be pissed at their moms or whomever).
Hey, Total Recall had a chick with not two, but THREE TITTIES. Here's an ad, for a chick with THREE MOUTHS. If you didn't know how horny we are, here's another one next to it, and next to that, and next to that. And here's another ad, where we call em whores, next to the last 10 that we did. Bruh, are ya'll 5 or some shit? The fuck. lol
I get this is a love letter to the bombastic, hyper-violence and gratuitous nature of American cinema and the anime that inspired it as well (hell…the game takes place in America). One could almost call it satire, but clearly I don't trust that it was. Restraint would have gone a long way here. Instead, I have to hear some silly ass dude's (or woman's) thoughts on pronouns, in a world where mf'ers are damn near all metal. Them being European isn't a fucking excuse either.
At any rate. What a mixed bag of genre defining highs and missed potential. Glad I played it though.
Panam and Judy get protected, at all costs.

I still love that some of the long load times were literally because the game was forcing a background console restart to clear memory on the X360.
By blackace Go To PostIt is interesting because I beat 3 of those games on 360 with no issues. So, it seems that too many people are having issues too ignore, because the sheer amount of people who bought the game..IIRC, it was specifically a PS3 issue. The 360/PC versions were fine. Still though, it was truly a game breaking bug on that platform that was glossed over because it took X amount of hours to become an issue and Bethesda had a free pass.

Charge jump, for stealth purposes. Ended up having movement tech, with what's basically a long jump. You can use it while you're running.
By sy Go To Postso what about the gameplay/controls/quest design/combat/
For as much as it fails, in comparison to games like GTA 3, Cyberpunk's mission design is light years ahead of Rockstar's best efforts. Combat is more akin to an upgraded Dues Ex, with Assassin's Creed-esque vertical space traversal. In that, you can approach missions in a pretty freeform manner: once you invest in specific tech / perks. At first, I was just hiding behind boxes, and only climbing up on ledges when I could. Once I bought the charge jump, I could reach rooftops, and approach missions in a variety of ways: albeit some are more linear than others.
The stealth aspect is a bit rudimentary. Once you get spotted, that's pretty much it. Enemies are converging on your position, and they don't "reset." Metal Gear Solid solved this over a decade ago. They already have an enemy in the game that will use ping on you, and reveal your position. It would have been better to play with that dynamic more.
Player choice absolutely matters...when it appears. People expecting New Vegas / Bloodlines game design are sure to be disappointed. It's not that, at all, however some of the quests are connected. It is entirely possible to screw yourself out of an ending or romance option, because you fucked up somewhere. Oh, and while there aren't a billion different endings that you can get, the two that I got were different campaign levels. Whole ass different missions, depending on how you played, up until the point of no return.
Gunplay isn't Destiny, but it feels from fine to good, depending on how you build your character, or upgrade your guns. My bar was under the Earth's surface, and I'm still shocked that it isn't total garbage.
How the game determines mission difficulty, is a mystery. I don't know what level causes missions to become more acceptable to take on. I still have side-content to do, that I couldn't, because I would get one shotted...even at "endgame". It doesn't make much visual sense either. Raiding a military compound is fine, but this gas station is a whole ass Fort Knox?
The leveling system is under-cooked. It feels like you should be gaining levels at a faster pace than you are. It's grindy as hell to reach the capstone skills, in each tree. I still don't have mine for quick hacking, and it's what I primarily use. The economy is also a bit stingy. Gear can cost up to 50k and that's not an easy amount to have consistently.
The writing and design for the different non-generic subquests and main missions, are the star here: for free. I now understand why people put up with the poorly designed janky bullshit in The Witcher games.

my neck run through the game i'll probably go full terminator and just throw everything into shotguns, lmgs, and raw hands
quickhacking makes things too easy at times. like you don't even have to respect automated defenses - and line of sight means nothing when you can hack one camera, get into the entire linked surveillance network, then hit everyone in the base with l33t h4x. and while i 100% get the investment needed to get to that point, its still a bit too strong. i've got some of the ultimate quickhacks and an epic deck and its STOOPID.
don't even see the point in stealth anymore. somebody makes eye contact with me, ZA WARUDO, and when time restarts they are literally melting

I am shocked that some of the quickhacks work on bosses, tbh. I would have thought that they would have taken the jrpg route and put up some resistances to shit like Optical Reboot. Glad that they don't though. Funny as hell to see a boss flailing around, not hitting a damn thing, or waiting for their systems to come back online.

Fought that psychkiller from the ritual investigation. 2 hit kill on me so I double jumped onto an air con unit, equipped the eye mod that makes your weapons non lethal and just peppered her with a smart rifle
I had a side gig to retrieve some stolen goods. Turned out to be medicine to help with cyberpsychosis and an old army vet had taken them. Talked him down, took the meds and left the apartment, walking down the hall i heard a gun shot. Walked back into his room to find he committed suicide.
Went back to my apartment afterwards and found out I failed Barry’s mission, yikes.

No joke. I still don't know that I did the right thing, for a couple of them, even if I did get the "win" condition.
RTX feature are fantastic, and I stuck with them for 30+ hours but I've turned them off now for a consistent 60FPS with DLSS. We're still a gen or two away from running this game maxed out at 4K/60FPS+, but once that day comes, wew
Game still looks great without RTX at least. In motion, it's not something I've stopped to think about. Though I I've consider locking the game to 30 and turning up as much up as possible, it's just not something I feel I can adjust too. Running the game how I have done for 30~ hours with auto DLSS, RTX shadows/reflections/medium lighting at 30-50 was definitely playable, but the frame drops from 50ish to 30ish were a lot more noticeable while playing than the visuals themselves.
Also, still yet to see the game CTD after a full 40 hours. Or encounter any type of bug that required a reloaded save or reload of the game.

I tried about 15 minutes with it off, but everything just looks that bit flatter. In a game where I don’t spend that much time moving at pace (outside of driving) having it on makes a big difference. And in any scene where you’re sat down or stood still, you’re painfully aware that the game doesn’t look as good as it should.

The beauty of options is that you can decide what you want to prioritise, visuals or performance. Shame it isn't a standardised thing.

I don’t have a 4K monitor so fortunately/unfortunately I don’t need to worry about a 2560x1440 internal resolution. The game renders at something like 965 vertical so the drops aren’t as low. Also this is with g-sync, which helps an awful lot in a game that can half your framerate
