lol, just noticed the photomode auto enables contact shadows shadows for Eivor's character model. You can really see the switch when in direct sunlight, odd that this isn't always on in the next gen version.
In game:
Photomode:
Does wonders for the hair and beard.
The LOD distance for Eivor's model is also very short, a short pan of the camera and you can see it switch, first time since Horizon Zero Dawn that I can recall an seeing the main character switch LODs so obviously during gameplay.

Man, that first major patch better be major af.

Took me longer than I care to admit to work out how to get this bloke to start on me, but worth it imo
I knew it was bad but youch
Enough was enough, I put my investigative cap on and started by first extracting the audio files using Wwise-unpacker, and proceeding to analyse the files using Adobe Audition. I discovered that the SFX is saved at a 24,000 Hz sample rate, with a variable bitrate that peaks at around 70 kbps. Yes, mystery unravelled, it really is that bad. Those of you who do not fully appreciate this technical blunder, might better appreciate it if I put it this way. Visually, it is the equivalent of removing 50% of the colours in a painting, and leaving smears where the details are.
For a RPG I feel like I'm finding NO gear. I've been wearing this raven clan armor for 10s of hours.,
Has the issue a lot of RPGs do, new weapons come in way worse than your uograded stuff so I can't be arsed to use them. Found precisely one new piece of armour in 21 hours.
Enjoying it a lot.

FYI the visions section that starts once you build whatshername in your settlement a hut and then take her concoction, the recommended level for that is 90. I think I was around 50-60 when I started it and it made some boss fights a bit tricker than they would otherwise have been
Also it’s pretty long as it is, so I would recommend getting closer to the level before you start it

it is, but its chill as fuck too so im kinda whatever about it... i liked origins and odyssey more. but this is okay for an open world game during a crossgen period.

Think I'm gonna drop it
Done two regions of England, just going through the motions now. And it's not particularly fun to play. Feel like I'm constantly moving at a glacial pace.

I won't trade it in but I definitely regret buying it(even at half off) but I'll pick up Tsushima to replace it. Can't imagine that being anywhere near as bad as this.
I'm not a fan of the weapon upgrade system, seems to grindy and barely and loot upgrades is boring, they went from way too much to way too little, the skill/ability upgrade system is ok but can be a lot better as well.
Tsushima is 10x better it's not even close

I'm enjoying the story so far. Some arcs are a lot better than others, but it's holding my interest overall.

Game doesn't do a single thing well outside of some pretty vistas. combat, traversal, animations, etc all mediocre af.
great bargain bin pickup, lol @ paying full price.
edit: OST is fantastic, but they fucked that up with the awful audio compression
100% they should have halved the content and focused on improving the core experience
but creating the assets is probably easier that going that route. And also they have to follow the Ubisoft playbook, which I imagine makes it difficult to go down that route.

It's like I'm playing Genshin Impact again. Just with less waifus
worst skill tree i've ever seen. No wonder they give you 2 skill points per level when 90% of the skill tree is "+1.2 melee damage" tier shit, might as well spit in my face
I *do* like the lack of weapon/armor loot in general so far. Switching a weapon every two second for every little bit of damage improvement was super tiresome.
With that said the tradeoff clearly was to move a lot of the nonsense over to the skill tree, which is nonsense, but honestly I prefer it to just be there because it removes the micromanagement.
Still not bored yet and enjoying myself a lot.

Wonder if Black Flag was actually as good as I thought, or if I just wasn't bored of the formula yet.

Worst part is that you'll have to return and there's also Jötunheim, which is equally shit.
Finished the game yesterday. Still alot of treasures, side quests etc. open, but not gonna waste any more time on that.
Overall the game could have done easily with half of the content or even less, like everytime with Ubi games.
Viking story is decent up until the later part of the game where it falls flat. The things that aren't viking stuff are terrible once again and I wonder who the fuck at Ubisoft thinks that this is particularly good or clever.
Overall the game got some neat ideas that feel half baked. The sieges, the order, the raids, the settlement feel like nearly the same shit after you've did them once and they failed to implement different things so they aren't repetitive as fuck.
It's a shame, because the combat can actually be quite fun once you've got certain abilities and the enemy variety is pretty decent.
Should have focused more on the sieges, the order and get rid of Asgard, Jötunheim, half of the map and stuff.

I agree with everything Pennywise said, I preferred Odyssey by far. My biggest issue was with the gear system, I know some liked it but i thought it was boring as fuck basically only finding materials for upgrades and by the time you max out your gear the games over. It took out the incentive for doing the legendary animal for example because in odyssey I knew i'd get a legendary set for it.
Fuck am I going to do all that shit in asgard for and only get 5 attribute upgrade points? Waste of time
