By DiPro Go To Postit's a dick move for sure but were they promised wfh forever? i couldn't imagine moving away without having a contract signed that it's not going to change post-pandemic.No contract, but the standard conflicting messaging that comes from management shifts. Lots of the comments on that article (besides the bootlickers and scabs) are like this one:
As an employee on the WarnerMedia side, this is a huge life-altering shock. My team was told last year we’d have flexibility and be mostly remote. Many people on my team moved away. We were given just one week notice with a cold and vague email that our previous policy is null and void and we are now expected to be in the office 3 times a week! There is a lot of confusion and little guidance and we have lost all trust in our new leadership. This is truly life-altering news for many of us. All of us have been wildly productive and happy remotely the past two years. The way this decision has been made with absolutely no input from employees is truly mind boggling. This is not going over well and this is a sure way to quickly lose top talent.
This isn't union people obvs, it's people who work for the company directly. They're being 100% taken advantage of
By DiPro Go To Postthat sucks but that is honestly my prefered schedule. 3 days in 2 days out.Same. Want to come back to a system like this eventually, just lucky enough to be union and have a little say in the process
Well shit, when I'm motivated, that resume gets written real quick.
Gonna send it off to a few trusted peeps and get it vetted.

I hate going through the inevitable like this. It just means my cynical side is right more often than not.
Just got to trust it earlier.
I do the same shit every time, hope things will get better before admitting getting out is the right idea.

There is something about being in the office or together in person that I do feel benefits a company (might not be same for dev or other jobs)
By Kidjr Go To PostThere is something about being in the office or together in person that I do feel benefits a company (might not be same for dev or other jobs)It can help with comradery amongst co-workers. I would rather have an extra 1-3 hours (getting work-presentable, commute back and forth, and loss of productivity) to myself every day, though.
I'd rather get my people exposure outside of work.

I'm kinda falling into a planning role right now and it's..... yeah
Last day at the job today, very very hungover, nothing to actually do except steal trade secrets from my computer grab any files I might need
Extremely looking forward to the month off

Working from home starting on Monday in the least prepared way. Just took the rest of the day off I don't give a fuck
congrats sy. working from home does have its perks.
I personally don't like working in isolation, I much prefer face to face interaction.
but then again I dont miss LA traffic.

It's not a new job, same job but they shut the building down and fired everyone who didn't use a computer to do their job
I don't necessarily mind working on location, but the problem is that the current zeitgeist isn't yet supportive of bonuses that are specifically aimed at the requirement. At least in the tech space.
Like...you work a few months from home you realize how much time you're wasting in traffic, you realize how much strain you're putting on your vehicle and the bills that arise from that, etc.
Eventually, we'll get to a point where all those things are calculated as a bonus for high-skill positions in order for companies that demand working in an office to compete for workers. Not there yet.

Started my new job last week and it’s a little wild I have actual power at it. Like power in the sense that I can fuck shit up at the click of a button with the permissions and access I’ve got. Feels weird

My company recently implemented "Return to Office" and it is literally the lamest thing. I actually live barely more than a mile from the office, so it is obviously not a significant commute, but it's like all I deal with is hearing everyone else's conference calls. And then the policy for returning to office for "agile" teams was expressed one way, and then implemented a different way by senior managers. My goodness, is business frustrating.
Remote work has its perks but remoting into your workstation to work is absolute garbage. Drop signals and random lagfest.

My goodness, is business frustrating.Agile is one of the dumbest business fad hustles, none of the people that mandate it use it and the ones that end up having to bastardize it to the point its pointless, because its a waste of time
Where I used to work it was a project management process, then the IT leaders got in the heads of others in the company to try to show off how smart they thought they were and everyone was mandated to incorporate it into their practices. Everyone was meeting to discuss when they'd have meetings to do the work they didn't need a meeting to do
By Perfect Blue Go To PostAgile and waterfall can kick rocksThat's what it was fucking agile and scrum takeover and none of them actually knew what it was meant to do
Also not convinced scrum is a real thing
Our "scrum boards" turned into tell us what you do everyday and how long it takes so we can give you more work or hold it against you
I don't see how IT and agile overlap. It makes sense in software, though.
It's just another way of saying "don't give us deadlines, the software will launch when ready"

By reilo Go To PostThe #1 reason agile fails is because leaders insist on having deadlines"Oh are we doing scrum no wait let's do kanban"
Months, months trying to get into this company I've been interviewing for.
6 interviews up the chain, aced all of them, total 10/10 each interview, everyone from top to bottom gave glowing reviews as the process went on.
Went as far up as the VP of Operations, the founder of the company, etc. All went so well.
...only to be told that there is now a hiring freeze, and that my candidacy is put on pause, though they still want me but can't make the signing now because of said policy.
Months fuck. Months of this stress. Jesus.
Ohh well, grateful I still have my current job but I was really believing, dreaming that I left. Fuck it, gonna pour some nice scotch and light a tasty cigar anyways, life is good as is. Something's are not meant to be then and there.

Thanks mates, I gave it my all, but I'm lucky enough to still have a job, it could have been worse. Perspective is needed.
Lunatic I hear that, after my next life milestone I'm definitely going to consider going solo consultancy - got a wedding to prepare for October!

It could be better but we know that at least we are valued enough to be a key employee that never has to worry about job security. With your wedding coming up I wouldn't stray outside myself so good on you. Also congrats on your engagement as I must have missed it. Congrats on the new relationship flourishing after the struggle you had after the last one.

You got this bro, it'll be all good.
If it makes you feel better every part of recruiting is a shit show.

I didn't know where else to post but I am take a big change in job and scenery. I have been working in a hospital since I finished residency. I work for a pretty large medical group that is horribly run and basically treats doctors like they are expendable minons they can easily replace but i put up with it cause the pay was good. I think the pandemic and kids growing up has taken the energy to put up with it out of me though. So next month I am moving to a small river town in North Carolina about 45 mins from the coast to work an outpatient job with normal human hours and not getting paged constantly. Will be a pretty big change both professionally and socially but i am excited also nervous and is probably the trigger for the bout of shingles i am going through currently
