By reilo Go To Post100% factsIt was very, very hard for me to accept and embrace the fact that looking like I was good at my job was safer and more likely to lead to success than actually being good at my job.

Being openly competent in the wrong environment is straight up dangerous. WFH fucking up everything for some places lol
The amount of people that do literally nothing at my job is insane because of everything that screenshot mentions
By DY_nasty Go To PostThis was funAlso exposed many managers as poor being poor at management but as merely only delegators of tasks.

🤔
I'm also convinced that most managers hate WFH and are itching to get back into the office because they hate being around their family for so long.
I've also known truly terrible managers who have built empires, gaining VP and C-level positions, by stealing other people’s work and presenting it as their own, something that, according to research, is the number-one way to destroy employee trust.I've been that employee lmao jordancry.jpg
i think a legitimately good people/delegation manager is fuckin A1 - but the amount of folks that get away with masquerading as one? that's different lol

By reilo Go To PostI'm also convinced that most managers hate WFH and are itching to get back into the office because they hate being around their family for so long.We got an American (Florida) as our new CFO, - convinced he's an actual sociopath.
Managers who want RTO are micro-managers who've found themselves to be redundant in the current WFH.
Y'all ever been in captive meetings with the President or CEO or similar? Best way to watch them fumble around and not know what you even do is by asking them "where do you see my role growing within the company?" and watch the lies bake within the whites of their eyes in real time
"I see you taking more of a leadership role in ... *click click click* ... content management of events and marketing"
nani!?

My software development group for the hospital (when I worked there) started with our own individual offices. Then we got moved to two people per office. Then they moved all of us to a single conference room. Then they put us in a shotgun storage closet with a single window at the end. When someone had to walk by, everyone had to suck in their guts and pull their chair in in order to give them enough room to pass.
We had a departmental meeting with the CEO of the hospital. He asked if we had any questions. I got his attention and point blank said "There is an empty office across the hall that Marketing is using for 'storage'. They have not stored a single thing in there over the past year. Why are we not allowed to move some of us out of our cramped room into that already office furnished room?".
When I finished asking my question, he turned his head away from me and carried on as if I hadn't said anything. That was the exact moment I said to myself "fuck you guys, I'm out". That next week, I told my supervisor that I was quitting. He asked me if I had anything lined up. "Nope. Haven't even begun looking. Things are that terrible here.".
The department head then called me into his office and asked what it would take for me to stay. "Double my pay, double the amount of developers, decrease on-call responsibilities, and let me work remote 2-3 times a week." His response was "Good luck, son.". Yeah, fuck you, too.

In better news, the company I have been working for the last six months just sent me my first ever quarterly bonus. It was small, but still, extra money. I also finally qualified for their 401k plan so I enrolled in that this morning, too. Things looking up! (hope I didn't just jinx myself)

By reilo Go To PostWith a new jobYeah. Each job I have taken has been better than the last.
By Kabro Go To Postnice, my 401k is fuck all.Hah. I'm still trying to figure out if the yearly max for 401k is also affected by my yearly contributions to my Roth IRA. I think they are, but not 100% certain. Sent an email out to the 401k people to check. Might also have to send out an email to the Roth IRA people to be 100% certain. I don't want the IRS on my ass. lol

No, they are independent. Max away.
Do they perhaps mean an emotional attachment to the people working there rather than the job itself? I left my job recently and felt pretty sad about it. Made friends there.
Couldn't give a flying fuck about the job or the culture surrounding the it. But some of the people were dead sound.

Spent some time learning C this weekend. I updated my compiler, updated/enabled all the warnings, tried to write a program that would take a simple unsigned int from the user from the console, fixed my code to address warnings brought up by the compiler, disabled compiler-specific warnings that aren't portable, realized the code I spent a long time on was way too complicated and error prone (but I learned a lot writing it!), simplified the code, and finally called it done for the weekend.

By DY_nasty Go To Postive definitely noticed people are more likely to peace out now, definitely feel like there's a layer of "yeah we're in this hellhole together" that wfh never provides cuz you never meet anyone
which is good i guess cuz that means people tolerate less shit, but i also know there's very little work around here because covid has caused a complete economical collapse so it's sad
By DY_nasty Go To Posthttps://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-post-pandemic-offices-could-be-whiter-and-more-male/?utm_source=pocket_mylistHa didn't read the article but I'm just going to go out on a limb and say you actually see what highly productive individuals contribute when the in office interaction part is cut out. You definitely appreciate the work ethic more when working remotely because you have to really rely on them delivering.

This vaccine mandate is fucking hitting 😂
I've probably got more feedback on job opportunities in the past two weeks than I did in the entire month of September.

Got a raise in my annual review again, and a bonus options pack. Pretty solid in size, but some legit cash would have been nice
little chapped ngl
someone reached out to me last week about a job and i said fuck it why not. i've been waiting on this other place since late october now. guy hits me up again out the blue today and the position is 20% more than i'd be making at the job i've been holding out for, its in walking distance of where i'm at now, and i know the entire office already.
shit just sucks because i was reallllllly hoping to change lanes and get into something new finally but i can't really complain about such a good look either.
gonna give myself a day but :/ good problem to have i guess. not too excited

Well that's a great problem to have DY. Congrats and also if you don't like it you can use that increased pay as a bargaining chip for something else that will probably have. Just being in the position with options is so empowering.
i was really, really looking forward to a career change man :/
but you need money to live so meh i guess i just push it further down the road

Hedge funds have been _really_ pushy the last few months. I used to get a recruiter reaching out every month or so, but it’s been at least 3 times a week recently. Decided to answer a few, spoke to a few companies, and it’s pretty clear they’re having to pay way over the odds for talent. Looking at mid 6 figures easily, because enough engineers seem to have been scared off by the last year or poached by crypto/web3 shit.

It's mind boggling, a fund wanted to pay us a six figure retainer which we had to politely decline becuause we knew we just wouldn't fill the required roles
