A remote IT Analyst that reports to me just received an email from HR stating that they've been selected for a VSP. He said that's a "Voluntary Separation Program." This is my first time hearing of such a thing. He has a week to decide if he would resign with 6 weeks of pay and benefits. I'm shell shocked. I just did his FY24 Annual Review and went over it with him yesterday and got his e-sign on the document . I'm a Team Lead that reports to the IT Director and I haven't heard a peep from him yet today. Hell, yesterday he said good job on completely the 1-2-1 review with the Analyst and the other people that report to me.

It's typical to do before large-scale layoffs. The give employees the opportunity to move on early without having to wait and see if they'll be laid off later. It saves the company money and reduces decisions on whom to cut next.

Meanwhile, my employer does "small" batches (hundreds) every two weeks to kind of fly under the radar of being seen as doing mass layoffs, leaving employees forever feeling insecure. My team has been hit 3 separate times this year.
