Microsoft won’t give salaried employees raises this yearAre you fucking serious?
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and the other members of the company’s senior leadership team won’t see any raises, either.
Microsoft annual gross profit for 2022 was $135.62B, a 17.06% increase from 2021.
We had our weekly team meeting and apparently over 50% of people in the entire division aren’t meeting the goal of being in the office once a week. Bro… just end this policy it’s awful. Starting June they are saying to come in twice a week and there’s literally more people than available desks. Need to get out of this position ASAP.

I posted a while back about joining a new firm. I talked to a manager back in January via Zoom but at the time there weren’t any positions open. I knew that but it was setup anyway for both parties to get a feel for one another. About a hour long chat. Nothing too technical but was a good talk.
Fast forward to April they came back with a new role and asked if I’d be interested. Said sure. Had the 3rd interview a few days ago. 4 hours or so with a different person each hour, ending with me talking to the Head of Tech at the firm.
Heard back today and they want to proceed to the offer phase. Feedback from both the recruiter and internal recruiter was very positive. The internal in particular said the firm essentially hand picked me to get a crack at it first based off the feedback from who i talked to in January.
The job would be a pretty big step up. And the difference in compensation …👀 Jesal pls. I’d have to go into the City though (aka NYC) .
I’ll tell you what tho…never been through so many damn interviews for a role.

Thanks bros
It’s a weird feeling. I’m reserving myself a bit tbh. Nothing has been offered yet or in writing. But we’re at least at that stage and passed all of the evaluation stuff.

THE MORAL CASE FOR WORKING LESS
Forty-year-old Josh Epperson works 10 to 15 hours a week and makes about $100,000 a year. After more than a decade in the corporate world and seven years working at a global brand consultancy, he has spent the past three years running what he calls “The Experiment.” The Experiment has three precepts. First, Epperson accepts only work that he finds meaningful. Second, he accepts only work that pays well (his rate is $130 an hour). Third, he never works more than 20 hours a week. Rather than leverage his expertise for more money, as is customary for most ambitious professionals, he’s chosen to leverage his expertise for more time.
For much of human history, the more wealth an individual accumulated, the less time they spent working. But in the past 50 years, a strange trend has occurred: Despite gains in wealth and productivity, many college-educated Americans—and especially college-educated men—have worked more than ever. Instead of trading wealth for leisure, American professionals began to trade leisure for more work.https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/05/shorter-workweek-leisure-productivity/674138/
Every 10 minutes, Mae’s computer snaps a shot of her screen, thanks to monitoring software her employer made her install on her laptop. A figure looms large over her workday: her activity score, a percentage calculated by the arbitrary measure of how much she types and moves her mouse.
It’s hovering at about 62% when we speak. “That’s quite good. If I’m on a Zoom call that counts as 0% [activity], even though I’m in a meeting,” she explains, adding that she watches videos and attends calls regularly as part of her role.
Mae, who is in her 20s, was one of many workers who got in touch with the Guardian to share their experience of being monitored. She works remotely in marketing at a company where surveillance has become part of the job.
Employees use Hubstaff, one of the myriad monitoring tools that companies turned to as the Covid pandemic forced many to work remotely. Some, such as CleverControl and FlexiSPY offer webcam monitoring and audio recording.
Mae says she often has dry eyes and a sore head at the end of the working day. “Tracking doesn’t allow for thinking time or stepping away and coming back to work – it’s very intense.”

Shit like this is a pain for designers

But good luck buddy!
Appreciate it hopefully we get good news ✊🏾
If not I’ll keep doing what I’m doing but probably won’t take up any calls for awhile. This one has been exhausting between the rounds and everything else.

Rad whatcha thinking? Is it a time killer?
Just want to start building another source of income that's driven mainly by me ya know? Job is great, benefits from service still A1, volunteer stuff is solid
But I've done pretty well gambling on myself so far. May as well throw a business plan together

Right and I don’t mean to get at specifics, but you could be swamped fast depending on how quickly ya go. Just curious.
I think it’s great btw. I wish I would taken a chance on something before I had a house and kids.

I have a side hustle of selling old video games of mine and occasionally flipping new ones on eBay for the last few years. Brings in anywhere around $5k-$10k a year from doing a minimal amount of work. Sold a few more things this week.
That's about the extent of extra bandwidth I have for work outside of 9-5 lol.

By Lunatic Go To PostThat's pretty good manCheers bro, thanks. It's kind of quieted down because I sold almost every old video game I own that's worth selling. Plus hunting for bargains to flip is incredibly rare now since most places have already been turned over by wealthy collectors or people out for a hit of nostalgia + the market has kind of cooled like every where else. Not really a sustainable endeavour long term unless you put in incredible amounts of work on a very large scale, but it's been fun and a decent way to supplement income.
I was raking it in from mid-2020 to the end of 2021, though. There were weeks when I'd pull in more from eBay sales than my internships. Good times, and this only happened because I wanted to de-clutter things.

Waste disposal, always thought if I was going into another business it would be waste disposal. Not sure it qualifies as a side business but you can charge people alot of money to get rid of shit.

That, or it's a good business to get rid of a broken desk/house.

I used to offer editing service on the side but it just made me hate reading after a while.
