And for that we say thank you. About 1,5 month ago it was clear what needed to happen for us to reach pot 2. It seemed very unlikely at the time but here we are.

By Laboured Go To PostBasically just a loan with all the downside risk for Spurs and all the upside for Madrid. Utd were smart not to go for that
if they get a decent player for like one or two season it's still absolutely worth it.

By Yurtlicious Go To Postif they get a decent player for like one or two season it's still absolutely worth it.But then they could have just got a two year loan for that. If Reguilon flops, or he just suffers some nasty injuries, Spurs are out 30m plus whatever wages he's on; if he's good then they get a LB for two years, and at best they get back his wages plus a few mil. Even if Madrid don't need him, they might just buy him back and sell him on for a bigger fee.

30 million isn't that much really anymore.
the chance of him getting injured (or flopping) is still the same whether he's on loan or they buy him, that's just an inherent risk in all transfers, except they didn't pay top dollar for him this time.

They spend 30 on someone almost every season if not in January (Bergwijn) and not all of them work
that's their 30 this time.
Spurs or not, all PL clubs receive a load of cash even without Europe. Sometimes you gotta gamble for top 4 or say trophies, worth it.

30m is fine. I think a buyback clause only has risk if we have had an excellent player for 2 years, which brings us value regardless. Also, with Mendy at Real, I don't know that Reguillon would be bought back as a backup.
Regardless, I can't be upset about upgrading our FBs this summer, they were such an important part of our best play and we've been handicapped by how naff they've been the last two seasons

Having Reguilon and Doherty also gives us the option to play some different formations, we could even go back to the 352 we used under Poch with Walker and Rose.
Lloris
Alderweireld Sanchez Dier
Doherty Lo Celso Hojbjerg Ndombele Reguilon
Kane Son/Bale
That looks pretty good.

By Laboured Go To PostSo, uh, who do we actually sign when we miss out on Sancho?
Fwiw I don't mind missing out on either. Bale would just be another Sanchez and we've a good enough midfield as it is.
By Yurtlicious Go To Post30 million isn't that much really anymore.Yes but the point is if you take someone on loan, you probably won't pay a big upfront fee, and you may not even pay all of the wage demands of the player. If a loan doesn't work out, you're going to be out less than £5m in the majority of cases

loans with a buyback option are basically transfers, no? That's why you pay a premium for them
in any case, I'm not a fan, but Spurs has to do something.

Imagine that Spurs had actually loaned Reguilon and paid 30m for the pleasure; fans would be pretty furious. Yet this transfer deal is basically them loaning the player for that amount, but at the end of the deal they roll a dice and if their number comes up they get their money back, and maybe with this deal 1 - 5 will pay out, but roll a 6 and they lose everything they've put in. With a normal loan there's never that risk of the deal blowing up in your face - you can just send the player back and cancel the loan.
If Chong develops well at Werder we could be in a position where we've three quality wingers in the squad. Something we've not had since the Ferguson golden era.

I think that's part of the gentlemen's agreements in these contracts, I know it is when we do business with the German clubs.
Still can’t believe GB11 <3 is coming back
It’s either a reflection of the profile of the club, or his relationship with us, or maybe a bit of both
It may not work, but on paper him and Kane in the same team is hard for other clubs to match

Isn't there any bad blood between Spurs and Bale?
Vaguely recall him refusing to turn up for their preseason when he was trying to force his move to Madrid.

It seems Ruben Amorim and another player have tested positive. That puts us with 8 players infected, our manager and another staff member.
Lovely, we are supposed to start the league this weekend and have a Europa League qualifier next week.

- There could be changes at management level
- No offers for Dybala
- Even with McKennie and Arthur, something is missing in midfield
- Nothing on Donnarumma to Juventus
