even though we get back into publicly funded stadiums and all that...
By reilo Go To PostIn general higher voter turnout benefits democrats but it's something that is being taken for granted. My worries are two-fold which I don't think what the NBA is doing ultimately matters:1 Higher turnout in NBA cities (or cities in general) will almost certainly benefit democrats.
1) Higher voter turnout might not always benefit democrats
2) Voting for democrats hasn't really lead to meaningful social justice reform in a very long time
2 Thats why you have to vote in democratic primaries as well.
By DY_nasty Go To Postvoting democrat doesn't keep you from getting shot but hey its somethingForget democrats and republicans for a second. Voting is the strongest mechanism people have to effect change in this country. All of the police commissioners, sheriffs, and judges were either elected or hired by someone who was elected. So yes voting will help keep us from getting shot. It's not the only thing but it should never be diminished.

Voting for democrats != social justice reform
Name the last meaningful piece of legislation passed by democrats to address social injustices. The Voting Rights Act was gutted by the SC in 2013 and people just kinda forgot about it.
By reilo Go To PostThis really doesn't address anything I stated, though. But it did though. Democrats arent getting social justice reforms passed? Then vote in democrats (or hell even republicans) that are about that shit.

"Being about that shit" and "doing that shit" when they are in office are two very different things, which, again, why this whole bare minimum notion of "just go vote" doesn't go far enough.
We basically had two RNCs so I’m not sure voting dem is accomplishing as much as anyone thinks
When the best thing anyone can say about you is “They aren’t (insert GOP person here)” then that doesn’t inspire much confidence

By reilo Go To Post"Being about that shit" and "doing that shit" when they are in office are two very different things, which, again, why this whole bare minimum notion of "just go vote" doesn't go far enough. If they're not doing that shit then vote them out and keep doing it until the next guy realizes that doing that shit is a condition of their employment. There is no world where voting is not going to be a major part of the solution.
Voting bootstraps are lost on me.
There is not a "elect the right one" kind of solution to this. I'd rather see something completely new and left like a demand to see African Americans labeled as a federally recognized tribe than this same song and dance with new beats and features... Especially when most of the poorly thought out half measures these gumps put in place make matters worse, are open scam endeavors, spin, or turn around with a "incremental gains, vote me in again and this time for sure" after they get elected while dapping up the same crowd you voted against.

By reilo Go To PostThis is really reductive thinking that doesn't address the fundamental flaws of America's political systemTrue but we haven't engaged that flawed system enough to even know if those flaws could be overcome. And it is reductive, I don't know how in the weeds you need to get to defend the position that encouraging people to vote is a good thing.
By masud Go To PostTrue but we haven't engaged that flawed system enough to even know if those flaws could be overcome. And it is reductive, I don't know how in the weeds you need to get to defend the position that encouraging people to vote is a good thing.Because it's being treated like a one-size-fits-all solution and it'll unfortunately never be that. Just because you vote once every two years (at best for the most politically active) doesn't mean that meaningful things were accomplished.
I'm not arguing not to vote, I'm arguing not to use it as the solution. It's literally the most basic of steps in many.
And I'm not arguing that voting is the solution only that it has to be part of any solution. For example Dy wants African Americans to recognized as a Federally protected tribe (not really working out for natives but whatever) knowing that nobody currently in office is for that how could it possibly happen without voting?
On ESPN's First Take, Stephen A. Smith said James spoke "in a fashion that turned everybody off because they had already agreed to what they were going to do moving forward."Two asterisks rings > social justice reforms
Per Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, James was among the players "miffed with the Bucks' handling of the situation" on Wednesday because he felt all of them were put in a "no-win situation" by not having a plan of action and "if they're refusing to play, then what's the end game and what demands must be met to continue?"
Haynes noted James walked out of the meeting with most of his Lakers teammates after being "pressed" by former Miami Heat teammate Udonis Haslem about what he planned to do because "he's the face of the league and it goes as he goes."
It hasn't been engaged enough? C'mon man..
I'd rather see private police start to become a thing at this point. Fuck it 😂 I'd love to be genuinely surprised by some new ideas and outcomes for a change.
By i can get you a toe Go To PostShould also be mentioned a lot of the cities with shit cops are democrat led too.I'm saying. You can't seriously tell people to vote harder when they'll never be able to compete with the money being thrown into politics. Votes are cute until you confront the fact that no matter who wins, the obligations remain essentially the same after they get counted.

In Portland the mayor is de facto police commish and he's been letting cops and right wing groups collude and been letting them off the hook for not arresting people on the spot. Talking people with outstanding warrants, brandishing weapons and assaulting the people of Portland. To say nothing of the cops handling of the protestors involving poisoning our own waters due to all the unnecessary tear gas.
By reilo Go To PostTwo asterisks rings > social justice reformsI mean Haynes apparently lied about Beverly so why believe he’s telling the truth here.

By sy Go To PostJesus. Maybe the Knicks didn’t lose that trade so bad.Word Tim Hardaway Jr has been balling.
They did
By DY_nasty Go To PostThere's repeating mistakes and then there's literally hiring the same coachesWoodson is the best coach the Knicks have had in the last 20 years. He was dicked over by crazy Phil Jackson so that he could hire... Derrick Fisher. I wouldn't call this a mistake.
Feel like while it's technically news what the Knicks do, them being aint shit is the status quo, so the moves they make aren't really "novel" news.

I am excited to talk to him again, which I will do soon, hopefully, because I'm back.
