By Fenderputty Go To PostThis is wild to me, they have the least watchable product without fansI just think NFL fans are fucking diehard. Even after all the bootlickers complaining about mah flag, mah freedoms and saying they will never watch the NFL again, here we are. Those clowns are for sure there every Sunday watching still.
By domino Go To PostI'm going to shed some manly tears if we close it out in these jerseys.

By Fenderputty Go To PostThis is wild to me, they have the least watchable product without fans
like soccer w/ the pumped in crowd noise you forget there are no fans
plus i think folks are MORE excited for football this year to do tailgates and get togethers after everything that went on this year.
By Doomsayer Go To PostThe NFL somehow has higher ratings, which is insane. Though I know when dynasties are alive ratings tend to go up because more people tune in either to watch them lose or just steamroll everything. The Chiefs are must watch football for people.Streams are never counted in ratings.
Do they count streaming options / cord cutters? Legit streams not reddit brand ones?
By Kibner Go To PostStreams are never counted in ratings.
I could be wrong here, but I believe the overall NFL view demographic consist of old people while the NBA demographic is likely younger? Maybe there is some correlation to the demographic each sport caters to. Old people are less likely to cord cut than younger people... maybe?

Maybe there is some correlation to the demographic each sport caters to. Old people are less likely to cord cut than younger people… maybe? It is feasible, but I don't know if stream usage has increased enough to make up that huge of a difference. As is, every sport but the NFL has had 45% or more of a ratings drop from similar events compared to the previous year. Part of it is increased streaming. Part of it is having all these events happening at once. Part of it is days and times of events being different that normal. Part of it is people just spending their "leisure" time doing something else.
I haven't read it, yet, but this is an article that may explain some things you are wondering about, Doomsayer:
People can’t even pay rent and ramen is out of their budget right now, how are they supposed to have the privilege of watching sports
By Chet Manly Go To PostPeople can’t even pay rent and ramen is out of their budget right now, how are they supposed to have the privilege of watching sportsI feel like that would make more sense if Golf wasn't the hardest hit and the NFL the lightest.
NFL started a new season after most of the worst of COVID in the US has passed and their fanbase probably skews to those that treat COVID seriously the least
By reilo Go To PostNFL started a new season after most of the worst of COVID in the US has passed and their fanbase probably skews to those that treat COVID seriously the leastWhy does taking COVID more seriously mean you don't stay home and watch sports though?
By diehard Go To PostWhy does taking COVID more seriously mean you don't stay home and watch sports though?NFL Sundays are a group activity and gonna guess NFL fans are still gathering together to watch these games.
Not only that, but having so few games and the majority of them being concentrated to a single day helps.
By reilo Go To PostNFL Sundays are a group activity and gonna guess NFL fans are still gathering together to watch these games.Obviously there are a lot of reasons, of the ones brought up the singular game aspect makes the most sense. I also just think the NFL has more devoted fans.

i'd love to see what college football ratings are like but obviously there's less control for numbers there w/ all the interconference shit and everyone getting started at different times this year. i do think football fans are the most devoted of any fanbase in america though
NFL games are also mostly on OTA TV so they don't need a cable package to watch your favorite team.
E: there have also been studies in recent years that show the NFL with having a fan base evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats. IIRC, NCAA football skewed more Republican

It also doesn't help that ABC's coverage of the Finals is complete garbage going on over a decade now. I can't stand their broadcast.
I hope cbs gets the finals if it’s up again anytime soon. But then we’d probably get stuck with the CWebb and Reggie broadcast
By Smokey Go To PostAbc still broadcasts in 720pI have Hulu Live. Going from TNT to ABC is a HUGE downgrade. I noticed that immediately in game one.
That in itself is a crime
By Kibner Go To PostI haven't read it, yet, but this is an article that may explain some things you are wondering about, Doomsayer:Cool, gonna dive into this one.
By reilo Go To PostNFL started a new season after most of the worst of COVID in the US has passed and their fanbase probably skews to those that treat COVID seriously the leastThis is also true, but I think someone else mentioned this; NFL without fans just isn't the same. I find myself not really caring about the NFL this year, virtually at all.
By Fenderputty Go To PostAll broadcast is bad on a 4K TV.Also this

People have started consuming politics like they do sports and their interest in sports has been cannibalized by political fanaticism.I see this

You all should blame yourselves, really. The “lol the lakers are trash from #3 down what are they gonna do” narrative was set when Kawhi signed late forcing us to lose out on better free agents. Everyone was too quick to troll.
As a Lakers fan, I didn't have much reason to stick my head in this thread before this season. But why all the negativity towards the Lakers? Just sad to see.
