By KidA Seven Go To PostIf you were Spain or a Spanish government official, would you let Messi leave a Spanish club and let La Liga lose massive interest?Of course not, this, Neymar and Ronaldo has been a huge loss for La Liga as a whole.

Dzeko as a creative hub for Juventus...sure.

Yes, you will go through a rough ride but Jesus these comments are on some stupid shit. You have some of the best players worth millions of dollars playing for one of the most popular/biggest clubs in the world, yet you lot are acting like the world caved in.
Messi at this point is a toxic figure, get rid of him asap and move the fuck on. If anything, I think Barca will come out better for not having to rely on Messi anymore, actual new ideas and fresh teams can for around the other talent. Get off Messi's dick, he's dragging your club to the shitters right now.

WAHEY
of the names I see mentioned, I'd take Dzeko really lol....
Milik, Zapata, Dzeko, Higuain again or Suarez. Obviously Suarez, but he missed like 17 games, what if he's broken beyond repair? We managed with just Ronaldo and Dybala so if you add anybody that's a huge plus already.

You can make an argument that both parties have taken the wrong approach in this episode, it could have been handled better and at least kept mostly behind doors. But when the board is so inept as ours, they deserve to bear the full brunt from the fallout after he leaves.
The club from an institutional aspect is broken and corrupt. Rosell started the slide down this path and Bart continued it. Guardiola saw this coming and left, Enrique kept Bart in a job with a treble which in hindsight might have been a pyrrhic victory of sorts.
Not sure you remember what happened that season...Chelsea+Social Media+Messi. Does that ring a bell without having to google it?
The boards' ineptitude in regards to controlling wages and making more prudent purchases instead of panic buys after the Neymar fiasco would have seen the team in a much healthier state with the exit of Messi in mind. Instead we have a backbone of older players on high wages who are indeed over the hill physically but have long term contracts somehow.
Does Messi carry some fault for the state of affairs right now, certainly but the main culprits have been the board members and the stupid socios that kept them in power for so long. Barcelona as a club will most likely survive and recover, it may take time but they will recover. The leadership has to be changed though and a repeat of this situation avoided at all costs. Barcelona will compete again but losing the greatest player of all time like this will be devastating for all aspects of the club, except the wage bill that is. And that is where hope for recovery resides, but the onus is on the next board to buy smart.
There are countless examples of Super Clubs falling into obscurity over the past decades, so your point about Barcelona being popular and big is moot. Also your point about Messi being toxic is asinine and I will not entertain it.
He was toxic to only a few entities in world football and Barcelona was not one of them, even right now.

You're 1 signing away from bouncing right back up. After a decade and half of domination what did you expect to happen when your most dependant player suddenly left you with your pants down?
No one player should have this much power, it's ridiculous what he's doing to the team and I love it.

It tears up everything the club has been trying to do with signings over the past few years.
But then again this is Messi. So who knows.

By recon_zero Go To PostHe's not leavingI feel like at this point it’s gotten way too messy (no pun intended) for him to stay. This sort of thing happens all the time in American sports with players sitting out up to a season in a contract dispute but it seems exceedingly rare in soccer. I can’t recall something being this public before. Barca has done a pretty good job of controlling the narrative though and making Messi look like the bad guy in this situation with their fans.
Barca will require a rebuild without him — there isn’t the quality there right now especially with Koeman telling most of the other old players to gtfo. Either way, a rebuild for Barca would still mean finishing in the top 4 in La Liga I’m sure. Their fringe players are still good enough to reasonably succeed domestically.

I think if Messi does have a clause that allowed him to leave in May that it should be extended - given the circumstances of the season - and he should be free to sign elsewhere.
But if he doesn't, then he's a piece of shit and needs to honor his contract and be treated like any other player pushing for a transfer.
We know his €700m buyout is more than anyone would ever realistically cough up and pay. His true value in the market is probably 25-30% more than Neymar's transfer if that.
I bet City pay Barca £250m + Eric Garcia or someone else.
