By Eternity Go To PostTo lose the best player of all time in this manner is so Barcelona.Maybe all Messi cares about is money and winning? Maybe Messi doesn't give a fuck about Barcelona anymore?
I am happy for him. He always gave it his all and elevated the club to heights it had never reached before. I hope he succeeds at City or wherever he ends up, because he has given football so much over the years and the least he deserves is a project or squad that gives him the opportunity to actually compete and a board that is not actively trying to undermine everything he stands for.
Barcelona honestly deserve this end for not getting rid of the executives after Rosell was jailed, instead Luis Enrique won the treble and all the faults were pushed to the wayside as the socios bought into the hype and voted Bart in for another term, a mistake the club will take a long long time to recover from. Messi staying at the club would be a huge mistake, for both parties at this point. He needs a winning project and the club need to rebuild at every level.
Can not believe he stuck around for so long and after so many missteps from the board. Yet, somehow he still dragged us to titles even through this period, because he was and is that good.
Leaving probably hurts him more than it will the fans of the club.
We were all lucky to witness the greatest player ever to play the game to the standard that he did week in and week out. Barcelona were lucky to have him.
By Laboured Go To PostChoupo gone means Tuchel is on his way out
Saw this on the Twitter. One of the worst editing jobs I've seen ever. Would make the boy WJD cry then vomit.
He most likely still wants to play competitively until the WC in 2022.
His last chance to win it and although the CL has surpassed the WC (imo) and majority would still call him the GOAT, it'll still be something people use against him. Highly doubt Messi wants to finish his career without winning a WC.

meh the CL is great and all but club football will probably always be seen as a step below international football is terms of pure prestige. the people of Argentina will probably never accept him as a GOAT if he doesn't win at least a Copa America considering he lost 3 finals

Ronaldo would trade all of his medals for one with Portugal.
Feel like the quality of teams and football we see in the CL > WC
CL = Sekiro

yes the teams are better in the CL of course, there's a difference between training for years with the same players vs. just 1 month of preparation before the WC, but the WC is the biggest stage of world football

dunno why club accounts don't understand that fans only want to see the original angles for highlight reels
The World Cup is the most iconic trophy on the planet, ain't nobody wanting to lift the CL more than that bad boy.
also helps the WC only comes around every 4 years, most players will only have 3-4 chances to even compete in it
Pretty sure that was Kuyt's first game and I thought he was going to be a world beater based on his trademark pressing but also the fact he took about 5 shots in 20 minutes. Low xG but he had confidence.
It's easy really, international competitions like the WC will never again be used by anyone else other than some media pundits, as the barometer for your GOAT status. Otherwise, if you are born outside a big ass nation, everything is against you.
Champions league is more important, and this isn't even up for debate. Every year the fans get to see the best play against the best, and it's seen across the world.
For a player of course winning a national trophy must be amazing, nobody said otherwise.

players risk career ending injuries and leave the biggest clubs for playtime just so they could represent their nations on the biggest stage
it's not unlikely for UEFA CL to disappear in several years or to lose its luster for one reason or another, world cups are forever.
ask Coman if he would trade his CL title for a WC2018 medal

World Cup has more prestige but Champions League is a better sign of quality. Neither of the two CL GOATs have won the World Cup so until/unless they do, there’ll always be questions.
I agree with Crusher. Like, what was Shevchenko supposed to do? Or Ibrahimovic? Drag fucking useless teams to finals? People like to pretend Maradona did but there’s no way those Argie sides were bad. It’s just that he was so good he even shone amongst them.

while that is true, the wc is the still the grandest stage of them all.
While I agree there are some Top 50 all time players who were just stuck with a bad NT, Messi reached 3 finals and underwhelmed in all 3 of them, even missing a penalty in the shootout, while Ronaldo at least got an Euro against France, in France.
He doesn't really have the excuse of being in a bad NT and it will always be held over him.

These days the WC is a once in every 4 years opportunity to highly inflate the value of certain players.
And Ronaldo went off injured early on in the Europa final so didn’t really contribute there.
And if the counter argument is ‘he scored the play off goals or the semi goals’ or whatever, then Messi has done the same. It is a pointless metric to make the argument for who is better, because ultimately there’s nothing much in it.
If Higuain puts an easy chance away, Messi wins the World Cup. If Eder doesn’t score when Ronaldo is not on the pitch, Portugal don’t win the Euros.
What we can point to as better evidence is a consistent and sustained record across league and CL tournaments, where the quality is higher and the bar for consistency is higher.
So while yes, lots of people care more about the WC than the CL, I just don’t think it’s a truly valuable metric into one’s quality.
Good career topper tho. Would love if Welbeck got one.

This is really, really strange. Phil Brown wrote a blog post detailing United's failings in this Summer's transfer market and their overall strategy. United actually responded to the criticism and laid out their position. They never do this. Especially not for podcasters. The fuck is actually going on behind the scenes?

It's a competition that happens every four years and the winning teamplays like... 7 or 8 matches? The argument everyone is claiming is that the WC is the most coveted and most important trophy in the sport, which is undoubtedly is.

folks have clocked the club's BS and they're desperately trying to regain control of the narrative. too late tho.
should've cut the check for Sancho.

UCL is better than WC
But the Hype for WC is unreal due to the country side of things. The last WC I enjoyed was 2006 and that was not due to the level of play but because of the salt.

WC means waaaay more than the CL.
the CL is pretty narrow - the games are great but they dont mean as much - the next year the board resets.

Think it is a sign of the hypocritical times we live in that Chelsea fans will on one hand unironically call him "Chilly", and on the other hand will not be put in gulags en mass.
