He's not a top level coach, but he's doing ok. My major point of criticism is that once teams don't give us space to run into we look a bit clueless. We're very basic in terms of attacking. We're miles behind the likes of Leipzig, City etc who have sophisticated attacking patterns.
The side is clearly very well drilled in counterattacking and playing off the cuff football, which the coaches must be given credit for. But we're a very basic football team right now.

We have some nice interplay around the box, but that's probably more Ole saying to players like Rash, Martial and Poggy 'you're good at that, do it'.
By n8 dogg Go To PostWe have some nice interplay around the box, but that's probably more Ole saying to players like Rash, Martial and Poggy 'you're good at that, do it'.Exactly. Bruno loves trying those back heels and flicks 20 yards from goal. They don't always come off, but he's been given the license to try it and our strikers are on the same wavelength. I feel our coaches should be given credit for empowering the players to take those risks. But at the same time I'd like to see us imposing ourselves on a team the way the best sides are able to. You look at the best sides and their players seem to know where the ball will go three passes before it happens.
By n8 dogg Go To PostBest thing in Ole’s favour has been the fact he has improved all our signings, and youth, and sone players Mou wanted out. He’s shown he can ve trusted with spending; and players he wanted but didn’t get have all turned up at Dortmund too, which looks good for him lol
Improved all your signings? Debatable

100%.
Wan-Bissaka's attacking game is still fairly mediocre but has come on leaps and bounds
Maguire leads from the back as the senior member now he doesn't have Evans/Morgan alongside him
James has played more football this year than last and suffered in expectations as a result of a blistering start
Ighalo has come in and done the job he was brought here to do
Fernandes has been exceptional

AWB has the same amount of assists and goals as last season. He’s been solid defensively, just as he was at Palace. Attacking wise he absolutely hasn’t come on leaps and bounds, he’s still frankly a liability in an attacking sense.
Maguire has been.....good. Nothing more, nothing less. He was good last season too, he’s hardly turned into a world beater this year. Difference is negligible from last season imo.
James had a pretty good start at United, looked raw of course but he seemed like he’d have his moments off the bench. He hasn’t. He’s pretty shit.
Ighalo has done ok, but improved? I don’t think so.
Fernandes has been great, absolutely improved the team hugely (he should be captain really)....but he Ole improves him? Where has he improved him?
With Fernandes United basically brought in a very good player and the missing link. But hard to say if he's actually better already than he did before at Sporting. At least he's proven capable of delivering the same excellence on a higher level against better opponents. So that's positive.
Its at the point where if u was an opposing manager I think I'd almost purposely overload the left, force you down the right and give awb all the space he wants.

The way LF spoke about him I dont think hes even matched his sporting levels as yet tbh

To me it looks like he's walked into this United team as if he played there for 3 years already. What more can you ask from a guy who just came from a sub top level club in a smaller league?
By Kidjr Go To PostIts at the point where if u was an opposing manager I think I'd almost purposely overload the left, force you down the right and give awb all the space he wants.Teams have already been doing that for a while now. Which is why Olé wants Sancho desperately.
id sign james rodriguez, still remember him grabbing bayern and almost carrying them to the CL final a few years ago

Maybe I didn't articulate myself correctly; he's improved the team with all his signings (and again, a few Gaal/Mourinho ones), and all five of the above have certainly maintained performance - and I disagree with you that some of the above haven't improved, but that's more subjective.

Awww hell no
By sohois Go To PostThe only signing you'd say that Ole really made progress with is Fred
Rashford and Martial seem like the most obvious ones but what do I know.
Decent argument for Shaw improving, likewise McTominay. Greenwood also has improved and I'll let others debate whether that is by virtue of time or Ole.

The challenge is keeping the first 11 fresh.
Another challenge is their big game mentality in cup runs. Too many players go missing.
This is where Fergie was King, he made mediocre players believe they were world-beaters. We won a league with Carrick, Anderson and Clevgod in the midfield. A lot of our players when the pressure is on - ( we saw this chasing top 4) they crumble.

You might find those two things are somewhat linked.
it takes time to improve players, it'd be more of an indicator to see how those players listed above perform next season. even this season, they haven't changed much throughout it. would be kinda wild to seriously say ole has improved them. rashford/fred seen nice improvements at least.
ole's greatest strength is he doesn't get in the way, doesn't piss off players/management/fans and just keeps things rolling. united's squad is so much better than most of the league's that you can get top 4 with a manager like that. especially when teams like spurs/arsenal were imploding. moving ole to DoF makes sense if the club has any ambition.

If Ousmane Dembele was available at a cut price deal would you take him? Has the potential to be an excellent player still.

Only if Sancho is deemed to be basically impossible and we had sufficiently scouted and analysed him (I'd be worried about his injury record in particular).

Quality wise Dembele is the next best option, I think. We could probably strike a decent deal with Barca seeing as they're apparently desperate to sell.
Personally I'd be surprised if we hadn't scouted him extensively seeing how desperate we are for wide forwards who play on the right. Maybe his attitude could be a problem idk? Went in strike at Dortmund iirc. Injuries a big negative
By Cleff Go To PostIf Ousmane Dembele was available at a cut price deal would you take him? Has the potential to be an excellent player still.
it'd have to be less than half what barca paid w/ all of his injuries. the attitude thing doesnt really worry me w/ who we have in the team already.
By n8 dogg Go To PostI would pay 25-30m for him.If certain rumours are to be believed that's all we actually have to spend before player sales.
By sohois Go To PostAnyone moving for Dembele would be foolish not to try for a loan with an option to buyYup. Would do that deal as United, regardless of Sancho.
Exactly the type of player that is unique and special. Can take on several players at once and therefore create space. Creates situations where other players would just pass it backwards.
The big question is just the work ethic and professionalism, I think Ole and the french players might work well for that.
Even though we're missing 4 starters for our U19 team they're putting on a brilliant performance against Midtjylland right now leading 1-3. Conceded a really silly own goal, huge mistake from the goalie. The 4 guys who'd normally play are all in Austria with our first team for a training camp. Semis will be against Benfica I think.

By Xpike Go To Postid sign james rodriguez, still remember him grabbing bayern and almost carrying them to the CL final a few years agoJames has been an absolute professional with what Zidane did to him, I respect him for that alone. James is an elite player, there is no denying his abilities, the dude would start in almost any club but he just did not fit into Zidane's type of team, especially when considering the 3 midfielders. What James lacked was tracking back, almost box to box, on the right side of the pitch, and as such, Zidane promoted Vasquez to the right wing and trusted Modric, Kroos and Casemiro to control the midfield. This issue wasn't isolated to just James either, Bale suffered the same fate.
The issue with James in Madrid is a question of balance, and not his ability as a player. James recieved multiple offers to leave this past summer but the team didn't allow the transfer because of Asensio's injury - simple as that. Bayern got a sweet ass deal on James, it was almost too good to be true, but the understanding is that there is am ongoing gentlemen's agreement in between the two clubs and as such a favorable deal was passed to Bayern so that they can have James on a loan (this history goes as far back as the Kroos deal).
Anyone that doubts James either has no idea what they're talking about or have not been paying attention. At Madrid, James problem was that nobody, including James, could have benched Modric, Kroos and Casemiro without breaking the balance - not an easy task for any midfielder tbh.
