By Yurtlicious Go To Postokay I finished it. No spoilers or even hints of ones whatsoever so don't worry
it genuinely exceeded my expectations, I had a blast and I wasn't expecting something original after TLoU 1. I'd say every risk they took paid off in spades especially when it comes to the narrative
Is it the greatest story driven action adventure? Easily, absolutely, but I feel like only because its genre is heavily dependent on tech and this is state of the art shit. ND are fucking wizards I was consistently in awe till the last frame
Is it the best game this gen? Well I don't know what that even means, not for me, ymmv, like someone out there might think Apex or DMC is the best this gen, and they aren't wrong per se. Might go down as the most beloved? Maybe. You can't say one game is better than the others because it pushed its own genre, we have lots of other genres that can't exploit this tech and style as hard, and they don't even need to. Give this engine to an RPG and it would mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.
not gonna slap a score but I'd recommend it to anyone for sure
my homework is done, Shanks.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. And must have really enjoyed it to finish it so quickly.
As you recommend it I will play it, but do you recommend it as a ‘go out and buy now’ or ‘waiting is ok’?
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostThanks, glad you enjoyed it. And must have really enjoyed it to finish it so quickly. that's up to you but in narrative driven games (where they experimented a bit) I wouldn't wanna wait too long lol

I know you love MGS, but not sure which part of it lmao, as far as stealth goes this is absolutely brilliant.
I dunno how to explain this but remember in TLou1 where we groaned each time we had to crouch and maneuver around? Here you won't ever feel that

I loved the stealth, story, originality, and the tech of MGS haha. Especially the first three.
Your last point has me feel good about the game. I might buy it at the weekend.
Only read if you've finished it or are, like me, quite far into the story, presumably approaching the final hours. I'm not gonna mention any events, just posting my feelings on a character you've definitely encountered, if you've made it this far in. If you reply, please do it in kind.
So, Abby. Yeah, I don't know. I feel like I like her for who she is and am simultaneously at odds with having to play as her, when I'd rather be playing as Ellie, see out her part of the story. I genuinely like what they've done with Abby, how tanky and different she is, her specific weapons - that's all great, but I can't help feeling like I've been forcefully yanked out of the fantastic experience I was having and put into this one. I'm still enjoying it, but in the back of my head I keep thinking "please, I have to go back, let me go back." Maybe I just need more time with her.
I think I'm probably just afraid that that was it for Ellie's part and I don't want it to be over. :(

I thought her chapters dragged at first and I wasn't sure I wanted any part of it, but the closer you get to that moment, the better they get. And it'll feel earned/powerful. By the end her acts were actually vastly superior in every way, you're gonna have fun and loads of it
so basically what I'm saying is wait
I beat the game.
Really felt like the first 5, maybe even ten hours were ND sleep walking through it. Then they warm up and get a rhythm going. The last like 8 hours ND ascends to heaven and just drops some of the most stunning shit I’ve ever seen in a game.
Just speechless.

Agreed, she ends up getting probably the three best acts in the game. The hospital parking level, sniper act, and the Ellie fight are just sublime.

End game spoilers
I honestly feel like Abby should’ve either had her chapters come before she kills Joel or Part 2 should’ve entirely been her game leading up to Joel’s death. As is her first impression was extremely hard to shake for me, so much so that I was still rooting for Tommy to snipe her lol. Even the during the fist fight I can’t really say I felt bad at all for Abby. Was mostly hoping Lev got out of there. That ending though? Look what they did to my poor girl Ellie.;_;

If I had to choose, of course I’d choose Ellie, but it took the entire journey for me to forgive Abby. To the point where when you get a chance to punch her when she’s down I actually let her get back up and swing at me for a while before I finally hit her again.
And I think that’s why her chapters feel so rough early on. ND knows it’s not going to be an easy sell. And then you momentarily see Ellie and Tommy as horror movie villains through her eyes. It creates a lot of confusing feelings. By the end I just felt like Ellie and was just done with it.

end game, not for Zabo.
not only that but rearranging the chapters would ruin the theater moment, both initially with the surprise attack and later with the built up tension when you FINALLY get there and you know whats about to go down. And not knowing her motivations straight away was good to keep us guessing for a bit. They slowly humanize her gang later on and you start sympathizing with them after viewing them as just ruthless killers at first

Used my only shotgun shell on the clicker after you get it :(

Anyone tried this?
In the accessibility options. There’s a mode to have it where the game enters slow motion while aiming. The real treat however is that you can set it so every time you swipe right on the trackpad the game enters slow motion. You can do this anytime, and it stays in slow mo until you swipe again.
It’s actually fun as hell. Makes the game feel like SuperHot in a way. I don’t use it all the time, but it’s damn cool to activate it once in awhile when shit gets hairy, and the choreography you can pull off is John Woo/John Wick levels of amazing.
Is there any significance to this shotgun having a gold icon when I picked it up btw? In UC4 the most powerful weapons had that, but you were picking up guns all the time there.
Very happy that the map updates, my sense of direction is abysmal

The stalker that popped out of the wall damn near gave me a heart attack smh
I knew that was coming and it still got me. Pretty much anytime opening a door or entering a near area triggers a cutscene I'm like "Alright here comes the zombie" and half the time it still scares the shit out of me

Late game(I'm assuming) spoilers
God fucking dammit Tommy is jaded as shit. I can't blame him, looking like that and Maria dumping him.
The farm has some of the most beautiful lighting I've ever scene. Probably 1:1 with the concept art. How ND, HOW?!
Also, why the fuck is Ellie so skinny? It's breaking my heart ;_;
Also, NGL I was beating TF outta Ellie as Abby and it felt good. Fuck Tommy for killing Manny too
Holy fuck that was Ellie's last interaction with Joel ;_;

I really appreciate the ability to grab someone from round a corner or door frame. I do wish they had dialed down the melee degradation a little though.
Combat feels much better than 1, though I've been struggling to hide in the grass a little too much, and struggling with getting close to clickers in certain situations

First had, quite frankly, pretty poor gameplay all around but the story kept you wanting to see what's next. 2 has really good core combat mechanics and phenomenal level design although puzzles and traversal are still kinda shit. Either way ND has come along way when it comes to core combat. U4 and LL were similar jumps when it came to gameplay.

It'd be much easier to hate Abby if she werent so good at killing stalkers.
She needs to fuck off with this fear of heights bullshit though

I have two bullets for every gun and no melee weapon (bit disappointed that my hammer despawned after I swapped it out)
Just gone through the gate that leads to the hotel, 7 hours in. Scoured every corner of the area, loving it.
