Just on that page alone, in a Sony thread, my god.
By Smokey Go To PostSlaent: IDK, PS5 looks kinda like an Alienware machine
Reilo: No it doesn't! You're wrong! Sony would never!
Slaent: But it does have some similarities to an Alienware prod..
Reilo: NO IT DOESN'T
Slaent: Maybe Sony could've went less hard on the SSD
Reilo:YOU DON'T KNOW
Slaent: Reilo, we're just talking…
Reilo: YOU DON'T KNOW MORE THAN CERNY. APOLOGIZE LIKE LINUS. STOP TALKING ABOUT ME, LEAVE ME ALONE.
Crazy. Wild.
Pray for his soul.

i had to add in the extra piece after reilo said stop talking about him and his love for sony. the story keeps evolving.
hate to see mans like this. i thought he was above this type of whoring tbh.
excluding apple ofc.
All I ask is that he stops talking about me but he just refuses to stop. He's so mad his favorite console will get crushed this winter that he has to take it out on me.

i take all of slaent's bullets for xbox. you get called out in one page, and fold.
absolutely pathetic.
smokey bb in reilo's defense (you guys know each other more than I do anyway) but of the two of you, he's not the one blindly defending something
sony, allegedly, made something worth being hyped about for once. Who really cares anyway
hope this isn't your standard basketball banter yall

Please don’t include me in this “SLAENT.”
The Alienware tangent is mostly color driven and stupid. Overall, the way it looks is pretty low on the rungs when compared to functionality. Why would I want them to sacrifice SSD design here? That’s also dumb as fuck suggestion. The suggestion is so short sighted I’m left to assume anyone making the assumption a doing so mostly in bad faith.
Now all that being said, I want all black please

back when rockets and blazers fanbases were bigger on here and they matched up in the playoffs? classic nba banter
By bud Go To Postby all accounts, the ps4 is a loud machine.
cerny has specifically mentioned it during the grand unveiling of the specs. why would sony feel the need to address that at the ps5's coming out party?
there's also rutter assuring the guardian that "a great deal of effort” has gone into making sure the ps5 will be less noisy.
and then you have writers mentioning it in their game reviews and, well, pretty much everyone.
it's a thing. the ps4 is loud.
so, then it makes zero sense for sony to set out to make the biggest console we have ever seen simply because because they like the form. if the size wasn't the direct cause of them wanting this thing to be as silent as possible, it'd have been smaller. you can make the exact same "bold," "standout" design in a smaller form factor–and that would've been more impressive, anyway.
why design a big fat console when you can make a smaller one? makes no sense whatsoever.
i just don't see how anyone could think that the cooling system–whatever it will end up being–was "an afterthought."
I just don't see how anyone could look at the console with all the limited ventilation and say that it was designed with cooling in mind.
But yeno, not allowed to speculate further. @me when GN do the tear down video in November.
We don't even know what the rear of the console looks like and there's clearly intake vents below the flaps.

Whooooa there. Who said they're intakes? They could be exhaust vents. They could be there for artistic choices separate from the cooling. You can't just speculate on the design like that, mate. The console isn't even out yet!

Given Sony's penchant for keeping their designs (traditionally) to limited aesthetic choices, I am going to ere on the side of caution and assume those are for ventilation or intakes. The fact that we see it on the front of the console makes me think we will see more exhaust ports on the back. It's almost a given.
But hey, I'm not the one that dissected the mockups and then concluded
However, when you have a case with obstructed airflow

I mean, if you think those vents don't obstruct airflow, I got bad news for you. Other than you're just reiterating what I said on the previous page, but you're allowed to speculate on this and I'm not?
Assuming there's vents at the back there's at least a 90 degree turn in the airflow from the top/front vents to the back vents, and the fans will either be attempting to exhaust or intake air through those relatively obstructed and small vents on the top/front of the case.
You can speculate, I just had problems that you already made your conclusions. As an expert, of course.
By Laboured Go To PostI'm not buying a PS5 until we've gotten to the bottom of this air flow thing.Seeing how consoles and other small electronics handle heat problems is actually really interesting to me so I can't wait for Gamers Nexus to tear down the PS5 and XSX both and see how they did things. We might actually learn something to improve cooling in more traditional PC cases!
With that said, those kinds of fin vents being used on the PS5 have traditionally been relatively obstructive in regards to airflow. The PS5 is thinner than similar PC case designs so the air may not have to make a full 90 degree bend to start blowing over the components, helping it somewhat. However, it being along multiple vertices like that can make for a weird path for the air to flow across, making it harder for cool air to enter and hot air to leave.
It is an interesting design and not one I am confident in. Still very interested to see a breakdown of it.

[REDACTED] has been pretty open about their cooling:
So I'll just leave this tidbit since apparently not being a marketing mouthpiece aka. Mark Cerny means we are all out of our depth:
Leaks of CU count and clock speed of Xbox and PS5 appeared as early as spring/summer 2019.
It was reported again close to the reveal by more reputable source near the end of the year:
https://www.eurogamer.net/amp/digitalfoundry-2019-playstation-5-xbox-series-x-spec-leak-analysed
And then suddenly at reveal, without the box present, clock speeds were pushed to achieve 10TF to the surprise of everyone, due to a "constant boost" ... whatever the fuck that means for a console.
Is it inconceivable that due to the higher specs of the Xbox, Sony's hand was forced to a change in design, cooling and overall size to accommodate a late clock speed change? It's a fair question to ask.
In regards to the SSD: again - the trade off for higher speeds is a more complicated upgrade route and a smaller volume. For games that will now feature higher fidelity assets (but no duplicate assets).
Xbox just obviously haven't had any sudden changes and thus seem hardware wise... Let's say less less exotic

I know all of the above ain't new, but some seem to willingly gloss over this to have better narrative to their argument.
By Laboured Go To PostSony is going to put out GT, Horizon, Ratchet, and Demons Souls for their oreo Alienware box in one year? Nice.
