By Punished Go To PostLaboured, what does any of that SSD stuff mean?Chaos. It means chaos.
Speaking of SSDs.
Should be fast enough to pass Sony's performance rating. Though it might be a good idea to wait for the people's EVO version, the PRO is usually 2x as pricey.
By JesalR Go To PostI think Cerny said they were looking for SSDs rated around 7GB/S +He didn't say exactly that, if I remember correctly. He said that m.2 drives will need to be 'as fast as ours' and that he was expecting we'll have drives that will be saturating 7gb/s (likely the most you can get out of 4 lanes of PCIe4 with garbage collection overhead) by the end of the year.
I'm only guessing, but I imagine that a high-end 6.5gb/s drive would be fast enough to mitigate the lack of 6 levels of priority reading, unless there are other basic architecture features that come into play. Samsung SSDs are basically the top of the crop, so I'm betting it'll be good enough.
EDIT: Cerny: "Our drive supports 6 [priority levels]. We can hook up a drive with only 2 priority levels, definitely, but our custom IO unit has to arbitrate the extra priorities rather than the m.2 drive's flash controller. And so the m.2 drive needs a little extra speed to take care of issues arising from the different approach."
What 'a little extra speed' means in terms of numbers is anyone's guess, but it doesn't sound like saturating PCIe4 x4 is the baseline.

i just realised something:
again, i assume these plates can be easily replaced, unlike the ps4 cover.
what they're going to do is sell different coloured plates at launch as accessories.
"want an all-black ps5? we have just the solution for you: buy these $30 plates!"
thanks, steve jobs.

Even if I don't care for the original look due to my own personal preferences, at least it looked like a single design and not multiple thrown together with little regard as to the fit.
the fact that people keep putting together different colorways and combos says it all about the system's design.
By Smokey Go To Postthe fact that people keep putting together different colorways and combos says it all about the system's design.Or it says it's about the colorway???? Because nobody is changing the actual design LOL
Adding a perforated middle and a new base isn't changing the design.

By Daz Go To Postits cool, we already bought Pele a wheel.I really hope that's true because dude seems awesome and I can't believe how much the organizers screwed him in that tournament by not letting him use the controller he used to qualify for the tournament.

By Daz Go To PostStarting to think this Dualsense might be a bit overkill.Nah, haptic feedback is fucking great. It needs to be pushed forth as a standard. It adds a lot to interaction and opens up new control methods, too. And that is just from my experience with the Steam Controller and Switch Controllers.
e: the touch screen in the center of the controller can fuck off, though. that is nearly pointless. so awkward to reach for regular interaction that i don't even know why it exists

By bud Go To Posti think he just meant to say “3d audio is really awesome.”I get it but the statement triggered me nonetheless.
Also, there's one Maserati in the entire GT franchise so it's kind of obvious.
Is there anything about a new VR unit on the horizon?
That 1080p screen on their current model has been outdated looking for awhile now.
I actually like it a lot. You get the touch stuff and start and select buttons in one big button.

I don't mind the colorway at all (actually kind of a fan of white and black) it just looks too much like trying to dress up a modem/router to me.

Only whispers. Sounds like the current PSVR is compatible with PS5.
And there seems to be rumours flying around of a much more higher spec PSVR2 with completely new Index-esque controllers down the line.
psvr compat with ps5. the psvr lead said psvr2 would launch after ps5 so I wouldn't expect till 2021-2022. The rumor is that RE8 is exclusive to PSVR again.
Consoles should be trying to make good VR imo, what else is the point of that box in your living room.
It's the one thing that isn't really suited to my PC because of my relatively small office. It's way better as a living room experience. I'd also say it can be quite social.
By cRrusheR Go To PostTacky imo
By Laboured Go To PostGenuinely hope MS do a u-turn on VR. So dumb.
The install base for Playstation VR seems respectable.
It's surprising with how successful the Wii was a decade ago, that VR--which seems like the next natural step in that arena--hasn't had a wider focus.
At least porn has been trying its best to help despite Google giving up and shutting their Daydream division down last year.
By inky Go To Post$70 controller? Current gen are already $80 over here. RIP.Can't you just smuggle that shit over the border, PS5 too?
