Just for that, I'm not going to tell you that the Orioles beat Boston 6-2 so Seattle is currently tied for the second wild card spot.

So Gio Urshella hit a single a few moments ago, which of course ruins the night.
Prior to that, the Yankees had 5 hits, all of which were homers.
Read the room, Gio.

Yankees win, they're up 3 on Toronto with 3 to play, but of course they can't shit the bed in the next 3 with Tampa while Toronto goes off to face Baltimore. Toronto holds the tiebreaker, and the Yankees also would lose the tiebreaker to Boston. (They hold a 5-2 season series over Seattle.)
Yankees +2
Boston --
Seattle --
Toronto -1
All of this for the right to maybe win a game and then lose to Tampa in 4.

Iβm not going to be upset in the event we miss out on the playoffs. It was a heroic effort to even get here in this position. I just want the club to continue improving in the off-season and bring in more pieces including re-signing Semien and Ray.
We are fucked. Jays swinging at absolutely everything mad early⦠pls calm down.

Yankees are presumably about to lose but the Red Sox are going to win.
Some thoughts:
- Need Mariners to lose tonight. Please. Please do it Nats. Mariners have been hot for a while though, cheers Blackace.
- Yankees have it by far the hardest vs the Rays. They needed to win this game but I think they'll still go through if they just get one win in these last two.
- The pessimist in me doesn't see the Red Sox losing vs the Nats but the Red Sox haven't been good at all in the last while. They seemed to be imploding the over the previous two or three weeks and tbh shouldn't be in this position considering how far ahead they were. We'll see. Winning tonight goes a long way for them.
- Jays played okay tonight and got the win but our first 5 players were terrible. Next game we might not be so lucky if they don't produce again.

Yankees at least have rallied from down 4-1 to down 4-3, 2 on, 2 out. Odor is up, so this is probably done.
Odor struck out. Yankees lost, Boston won, Toronto won, Seattle is still playing, and despite whatever happens between now and November, fuck Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone and every decision maker in between.
Seattle, down 2-1 to the Angels in the bottom of the ninth, got a leadoff double from Seager, but then a weak grounder that couldn't advance the runner and an infield popup that didn't do shit. Down to their last out and blackace is asleep and Adam is fucking a hooker.
Honestly forget how it works for qualifying. Pac please do me a favour and explain how teams get to the world series tournament?

The teams that do not make it are relegated down to triple A.
But in actuality, 3 divisions in each league, winners of each division are solid. Just focusing on the AL, the Yankees, Boston, Toronto, and Seattle are vying for 2 spots that will have a single game opportunity to advance to face the top division winning team in the AL (Tampa Bay) in a 5 game series. The other two division winners (Houston and Chicago White Sox) will face each other, and the winners of those series will play 7 for the right to go to the World Series.
If any of the Yankees, Boston, Toronto, or Seattle are tied for one of the wild card spots based on record, there can be additional games played for tiebreakers, and then the actual wild card game.
Truthfully, the single game wild card is bullshit, I hate it, either go back to a single wild card team (3 division winners + the next best team), or make it an actual series (3 games) so it's not just absolute random nonsense.
Fucking hell that's convoluted as fuck. Now I know why I shifted over to soccer as I got older. Thanks for taking the time to give me an explanation bredrin ππ½

Boston won their game. Seattle has to beat the Angels tonight to stay in it, and Boston or New York have to lose tomorrow to leave an opening for Toronto and possibly Seattle.
All games for these teams tomorrow will be happening at the same time, starting between 3:05 ET and 3:10 ET.
In the NL, the only question is if LA can tie SF for the NL West (SF lost today, would have to also lose tomorrow, and LA has to win tonight and tomorrow to force a game 163), but in either case, the loser in that scenario hosts the Cardinals in the WC game.

On the one hand, you have blackace's Mariners who haven't made the playoffs in 20 years. On the other hand, you have Adam's Angels who have proper fucked Mike Trout's entire career (and this game won't change that).
This Mariners win was brought you by Draft Kings and the Bee Gees. Mostly the Bee Gees.
Toronto and Seattle play games for their lives tomorrow while needing some help, Boston and New York play games for the right to delay playing for their lives a couple of extra days.

FOUR-WAY TIE FOR TWO WILD CARD SPOTS
Example: Yankees go 0-1; Red Sox go 0-1, Mariners go 1-0, Blue Jays go 1-0
What happens next: The above scenario is the only possible four-way tie, and it means all four teams finish with 91 wins (which is the win ceiling for Toronto and Seattle). Each team would choose or receive an A, B, C or D designation. The club with the highest winning percentage in games among the tied clubs chooses first, second-highest chooses second, etc. In this scenario, the Red Sox (24-21 against the others) get first choice, the Blue Jays (22-22) choose second, the Yankees (22-23) choose third and the Mariners (9-11) get the leftover spot.
On Monday, Club A (likely the Red Sox) would host Club B, and Club C (likely the Blue Jays) would host Club D. So for the Yankees, it would come down to a choice of traveling to either Boston or Toronto.
The winners of those two games on Monday would face each other Tuesday in the AL Wild Card Game.
