That was the third absolutely brutal blown game for the Yankees in the past week and a half.
They blew the Ohtani game by giving up 7 in the ninth.
They had a 5-4 lead on the Mets entering the 9th, and gave up 6.
Same today in Houston. 7-2, bottom of the ninth, gave up 6.
Taking 2 of 3 from Houston is obviously great, but Houston was not even competitive in this game until that 9th. Just brutal.

Yankees and Red Sox were postponed for tonight. 3 confirmed COVID cases for the Yankees with 3 more awaiting confirmation (first test positive, second test results still pending).
Since that was apparently the only game on the schedule for tonight (why?), no baseball until tomorrow.

The others are apparently Aaron Judge, Gio Urshella, and Kyle Higashioka (these are the players waiting for the second test results).
Jonathan Loaisiga is the other person not mentioned in the above tweet, but he tested positive during the Houston series last weekend.
Let's give it up for the Yankees, now 0-7 against the Red Sox for the season.
Fire Cashman, fire Boone, and sell, Mortimer, sell.

Because this is America...
The game was called. I'm not sure calling the game to send the fans out into the chaos was necessarily the correct move, but whatever.

Meanwhile, in Sox @ Yankees news, it's 1-1 going into the bottom of the 6th. Syphon, guarantee a Sox win if you can. The Yankees need this.
Yankees and Red Sox are playing through a downpour. Yankees got back-to-back solo homers to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 6th, and now have runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.
The in-retrospect stupid thing is that they delayed the game for nearly an hour (because of the threat of rain, but it wasn't raining) just to start the game to play in the rain. Had they not done that, the game could very nearly be over.

Well, look at that, they're rolling the tarp out.
It's 3-1 Yankees, the 6th inning is complete, this would be an official game if they called it.

Now we wait.

Yankees beat Boston again, and perhaps even more importantly, Torres homered in back-to-back games for the first time in 2 years. Dude's power fell off a fucking cliff. Hit 38 homers in 2019 (144 games played), and only 8 since (122 GP, including tonight).
A lot of questionable calls the past 2 games, although expected considering how the previous series or the one before ended.
Not like you can win games when the offense has been struggling for the past 2 weeks..

Brandon Crawford vs. Tim Lincecum for me. Oddly enough I got teammates though they didn't play together in this WS, Crawford first played for the Giants the next season. Reckon I have an okay shot.
I guess I will have to take Gary Gaetti to go up against Greg Maddux. The negative? Gaetti only had a 0.235 OBP versus Maddux, but on the positive side, he hit a grand slam off him in the 96 NLCS.

Chapman is coming into the game in a save situation, 6-3 in the ninth.
Pray for me, and I'll pray for you.

Chapman went down 3-0 to Harper before coming back to strike him out. Then gave up a solo HR to McCutchen. But he then struck out Hoskins and Didi.
Technically a bad outing to give up 1 ER in 1 IP? But he at least got the save for the first time in forever.

Thanks to that clutch walk-off hit from LaMarre, the Yankees swept the short series (2 games) against the Phillies. Next up? 4 in Boston, then 3 at Tampa Bay.
This is obviously the make or break for the season, with the Yankees 7 games back leading into the trade deadline.

Known as the Indians since 1915, Cleveland's Major League Baseball team will next be called the Guardians.
🤔
So the despite losing 3 of 4 to Boston, with their 1 win being a gift and 2 of their losses being in horrendous fashion, the Yankees have won the first 2 against Tampa and appear to be buying before the trade deadline.
It's going to be a steep hill, but Gallo I guess will be better than other CF options and since he's under contract through next season, as well, they won't have to pretend Aaron Hicks (currently on season-ending IL) doesn't suck.

The Yankees are getting Rizzo from the Cubs. There was some traffic earlier about Lue Voit being in trade talks. I'm not sure where this goes.
Really happy for Max and Trea, end of an era, smart decision by Rizzo. My only question is if we got fair value from the prospect haul. Feel like we didn't, but oh well. Good time to bottom out. I know Max is going to miss this city, really made it a home here. Part of the trade might have been trying to do right by him.
Might be time to move Stras' injured ass tbh.

The Yankees -- now in the midst of their 3rd COVID outbreak this season (only 3 people so far this time with Cole, Montgomery, Sanchez) -- got a 3 run homer from Gallo to get a comeback win over a team whose name I won't mention but they might be near and dear to the heart of blackace. Or far from it, like an ocean away, you never know.
Jays are heating up now. It helps that Springer is finally back and absolutely lighting it up.
1.5 WAR after 38 games is nearly 6.5 over the course of a season and that’s MVP candidate territory.
