Rude guest, really.
Fucking Cashman and Boone.
You have Ohtani making his first ever start in Yankees Stadium, and you're giving Aaron Judge the night off? Gio Urshella, as well?
Fuck off.
edit: and look at the Angels. They're like "fuck it, Ohtani's also hitting leadoff."

Yankees might be putting something together against Ohtani, though. Sure, gave up 2 themselves in the top half of the first, but now they've scored 2 of their own after Ohtani walked the bases loaded, then 2 singles drove in 2 runs. Bases still loaded, nobody out.
Damn. Ohtani got chased in the first. 4 runs in, 2 outs but bases still loaded. 41 pitches in the inning, though. Unclear if Ohtani will go to the outfield or if he's done.
Only 2 hits, but he hit a batter and walked 4. Got Odor to strike out on 3 pitches (2 way out of the zone), got Andujar on a weak grounder that scored the third run. Then hit Frazier to reload the bases and walked Gardner on 4 pitches (the third one was probably a strike, just barely hitting the top of the zone).

Looks like Ohtani is done. At least, he's not out in right field.
Speaking of, LeMahieu just hit a bases-clearing double down the right field line. 7-2 Yankees in the first.
Edit: Ohtani is definitely sitting in the dugout. His arm and bat are done. And all 7 runs are on Ohtani's line.

Angels just technically burned through 2 pitchers in 1 inning of pitching.
Ohtani was batting leadoff. Well, in the top of the second, the Angels scored 1, had men on 2nd and 3rd, and the leadoff spot was due up in the order again. So they sent a pinch hitter up in place of the replacement pitcher, and he struck out. Rendon flied out afterwards to end the threat.
Do the Angels have someone in the pen who can eat innings?

Rain delay in NY. Couldn't have happened at a worse time for Angels, probably.
7-3, bottom of the third. Angels were warming up Dylan Bundy to eat some innings, since he didn't go long on Monday. Everyone saw rain coming, but Claudio for the Angels let the first two batters on. Maddon had to go to Bundy, and he struck LeMahieu out but was down 2-1 on Voit when the rain came pouring down. If this delay is too long, he might not be able to go back in.

Rain delay #2, leading into the bottom of the 5th. Yankees still lead 7-4.
Going to take the risk of going to play Battlefront 2, knowing that when I return, the game will have resumed and the Yankees will have blown the lead.

Yankees radio (overlaying the MLB.TV broadcast) just came back on at 11:25, apparently the game will resume.
Edit: it's now 11:30 and it's resuming.

The game is in the top of the 9th... 8-4 lead for the Yankees. Chapman is pitching, considering he hasn't been in a game for a week. Walked the first batter. Pray for me, and i'll pray for you. Yevon take the wheel.
Shiva's slider ain't shit.
10-8 Angels now, after Luetge came in and gave up a walk, a single, and then another single that scored 2.

And fuck, just after hitting post, RBI double to make it 11-8.
And the remaining fans are audibly chanting "Fire Boone."

11-8 is the final after the Yankees didn't do a damn thing in the bottom of the 9th.

Let the record show that this is the hourly forecast in NYC for tomorrow, considering the 1PM ET scheduled start time
In all likelihood, tomorrow's game has a high chance of being washed out, potentially made up as a game in LA (the Yankees visit the Angels 8/30 through 9/1, with a mutual off day on 9/2, or the Angels and Yankees would otherwise have to find another open date that is convenient for the Angels to return to NY to make up a game).
This forecast was also known well before the lineups were submitted for tonight's game. Why give Judge and Urshella the night off, especially in a potentially (although it didn't work out that way) historic game against Ohtani, when you could just as easily give them tomorrow off in a game unlikely to be played anyway?

Yeah.... thanks for the opportunity to gripe further. (Honestly!)
For obvious reasons, anyone could dwell on Chapman tonight.
But you can also dwell on the fact that Chapman hadn't pitched in a week, and from my memory, Chapman doesn't do well when he hasn't been used recently. For that matter, most relievers tend to not fare well when used sparingly.
Why hasn't he been pitching? Well, twice, the Yankees actually beat the shit out of the other team. Good for them! The first being last Thursday, the second being Tuesday. However, in the middle... Friday? Lost. Saturday? Lost. Sunday? Lost. Swept by the goddamn Boston Kokos. Monday? Lost. Fuck you, Adam.
So they bring Chapman in tonight, with a 4 run lead and he shit the bed, no doubt about it. But if I can recognize a pattern, why the fuck aren't the Yankees also seeing it? Get this dude some work when the Yankees are losing and/or winning *really* big or figure out how to simulate it. *I understand* that closers don't quite feel the same adrenaline rush when it's not a save situation, but goddamn, when a dude hasn't pitched in a week? And then you bring him into a non-save situation? So not only does he not have the adrenaline, but he's also fucking rusty?
Eh, fuck. I just want to see Boone and Cashman go. They have to fucking exit stage left together. Them, and the fucking shits in the analytics department.
Today's game was of course postponed as assumed. Rescheduled for August 16, in New York.
Yankees will be returning from Chicago to start a 6 (now 7) game homestand, and the Angels will travel in from Houston for a day then head off to Detroit.

Another day, another rain out. Yankees will play tomorrow afternoon against the Mets as scheduled, then a split double header on Sunday.
Chad Green saved the Yankees, going 3 perfect innings to close out game 2, at least allowing the Yankees to salvage one game of the series against the Mets.
Green had 2 pitches in the 6th inning of game 1 of today's double header, but was lifted for Chapman for the 7th (last inning under the current DH rules). What did Chapman do? Gave up a homer, hit a batter, and issued a walk, and got no one out before he was pulled. Mets eventually scored 6 and turned a 5-4 deficit into a 10-5 win. Can we get Chapman some pine tar? Say he gets caught and banned. Who gives a shit, Yankees only have a lead in the 9th once every 10 games anyway...

He couldn't get out of the first inning pitching against the Yankees. That's all I've got.
Hitting wise, dude is killing it. Holy shit.

😳💪😬
Those are horrendous.
Speaking of horrendous, the Yankees start a 3 game set in Seattle tonight then go to Houston after that. I feel like going 2-4 would be a good outcome heading into the all star break.

Big 32, won series against Boston.
You're welcome.
Big shout out to LeBron's doctors
Anyway, Yankees have won a third game on this pre-ASB road trip, exceeding my expectations.

Gerrit Cole told Boone to get off his mound and then completed the 1-0 complete game shut out (129 pitches). That's two shutouts in a row of Smokey's boys, so the Yankees have already won this series.
