PFT: NFL, NFLPA reach agreement on team travel protocol for training camp and preseason
Profootballtalk reports the NFL and NFLPA have reached an agreement on 2020 travel protocols.
Per PFT's Mike Florio, the agreement posits that there will be a preseason, though that is apparently still being negotiated. It had been proposed that visiting teams travel and return the same day, but it appears that has been scrapped. Every member of the traveling team will be required to wear masks, and buffets have been outlawed. That may seem minor, but it will make it infinitely more difficult to feed a group of literal linemen. If the league manages to pull it off, 2020 will be a season like no other, hopefully to never be repeated.
Raheem Mostert requested a trade from the 49ers.Pay that man.
It's one of the only leverage points he has over the 49ers right now as he looks to increase his salary up from $3 million. Mostert was the most efficient back in San Francisco last season and ultimately took over playoff games during the 49ers' Super Bowl run. His agent, Brett Tessler, notes that Mostert's contract was negotiated when he was just a core special teamer, not when he was entrenched as the 49ers' Week 1 projected starter. A trade is possible, but it would make sense for both parties to reach an agreement on a slight pay bump before the season begins. Mostert is only seeking Tevin Coleman money ($4.5M). It's also worth noting Jerick McKinnon (ACL) has yet to resume cutting.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Raheem Mostert wants his salary brought more in line with Tevin Coleman's.
Mostert is currently set to make around $3 million with Coleman due $4.55 million. Mostert was the far more effective player during the 49ers' Super Bowl run and believes he is due a raise after agreeing to his current deal when he was still a core special teamer. He's not wrong, but the 27-year-old probably isn't going to find a receptive audience in a front office that knows backs are replaceable in Shanahan's system.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Washington is planning to remove all Native American imagery.
Long overdue, but everything is trending towards Washington owner Dan Snyder finally moving towards a new team name and logo. It's unclear when things will be announced and what the mascot will actually be, but anything is an upgrade. Despite decades worth of ignoring discussions from the Native American community, Snyder was completely against changing his team's name up until the point he was set to lose money from his top team sponsorships. FedEx, who owns the naming rights to Washington's stadium, was the first to publicly request a name change. Since then, Nike, Amazon, and other outlets have pulled Washington merchandise from their stores.
ESPN's John Keim reports the Washington football franchise is expected to keep its team colors of burgundy and gold after changing its nickname.
Keim's colleague Adam Schefter has reported the team will discontinue its use of Native American imagery. So far, there have not been any rumors as to what owner Daniel Snyder might be considering for a new name. It is going to be hard to pull this off before Week 1.
ok NFL, so what happens when a player tests positive? What happens if a city bans gatherings of a certain size and does not exempt the NFL? What happens in the event of a full-scale breakout in a locker room? What happens when a player wants to opt out of the season? Nothing? Ok guys.
ESPN's Field Yates reports the Patriots have reached settlements in their Antonio Brown and Aaron Hernandez grievances.LOL Patriots always stay winning. The thought was that Pats violated Brown's contract and they'd have to pay him a lot more money.
The settlements recoup the Pats $4 million in salary cap space from Brown and $2.55 million from Hernandez. They have now shot up from under $500,000 in space to $7.794 million.
NY Daily News: Video evidence, Instagram DMs, testimony show payoff cover-up for DeAndre Baker and Quinton Dunbar, further implicate NFL players in crime
The explosive warrant, obtained as a public record from the Broward County (Fla.) Clerk of Courts, seeks access to iCloud accounts associated with Baker and Dunbar. The warrant cites evidence collected through previous warrants, which includes video footage and direct messages that allegedly show witness Dominic Johnson oversaw the payoff of Baker’s and Dunbar’s four alleged victims on May 15 at the office of Dunbar’s attorney, Michael Grieco.Whelp they're done. AGAIN!
“I made them same n----s that said they got robbed come in and say them Boys ain’t have nothing to Do with it,” Johnson allegedly wrote on May 16 in a series of incriminating direct messages on his Instagram account, @powerballnick_305.
Johnson is the witness referred to as “Coach” in the original arrest warrant who told police that he has known Baker and Dunbar since they were children.
...
Baker’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, recently claimed to have testimony from two witnesses that they never saw the Giants corner pull a gun or rob anyone.
But Johnson’s own written words in his Instagram direct messages also “corroborate a robbery had occurred and those who were charged were the participants,” the warrant summarizes.
All four victims have given sworn statements that they were paid at the office that day to recant their sworn initial statements against Dunbar by signing affidavits. Combined, the four men say they were paid a total of $55,000.
Detective Mark Moretti of the Miramar Police Department, who submitted the warrant reviewed by Judge Marina Garcia Wood, also reveals alarming direct messages between Baker and Johnson on Instagram that implicate Baker in the payoff.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Washington's front office hired DC attorney Beth Wilkinson to review the organization’s protocols.
It's an attempt to get out in front of the rampant speculation regarding the culture in place under owner Dan Snyder. The Washington Post is reportedly preparing a lengthy tell-all about its NFL team (which has yet to be named), which has been rumored to threaten Snyder's seat at the head of the table. As Schefter notes, front office members Richard Mann III and Alex Santos, as well as radio play-by-play voice Larry Michael have all coincidently left the organization within the past week. This story is just getting started.

In coordinated Twitter postings Sunday afternoon, a host of NFL players criticized the league's coronavirus plan.
More specifically, the league's lack of a plan. "If the NFL doesn’t do their part to keep players healthy there is no football in 2020," were the words of Drew Brees, amongst many others. Players from J.J. Watt to Russell Wilson took part in the effort. In Watt's post, he said players still do not know how a positive COVID-19 test will be handled, or how the league might handle opt-outs. The league is still trying to claim players will report as usual this week, but the number of unresolved critical issues is massive.

...NFL are a bunch of morons...
On Wednesday, the NFLPA's executive committee held a conference call with nearly 50 of its highest-profile players intended to inform the membership on where things stood ahead of training camp, one player on the call told ESPN's Jeff Darlington. But that call took some turns as players felt the NFLPA couldn't answer some of the simplest questions they were asking.
Among others, Watt vocalized the need to gain more clarity on the NFL's plan for player health and safety. As such, several players asked the NFLPA how they could assist and what their message should be. Essentially, one player said, the call became a galvanizing moment that has led to Sunday's social media blitz. Since that call, players have been working with the NFLPA to work on ways to create a unified voice.
On Saturday, when the NFL sent an email to each team informing them that training camp would start on time, one member of the NFLPA executive committee told ESPN they viewed the NFL's action as a public relations attempt to quell fans' concerns due to a growing sentiment from players -- including Watt and Patrick Mahomes -- who have expressed frustrations about the lack of clarity from the league.
The NFLPA source said this public back-and-forth is expected to eventually lead to more expansive meetings between the league and the NFLPA in the coming days to gain a better understanding about how the league plans to handle aspects like practices, testing, opt-out clauses and other factors that players believe have not been properly agreed upon.
Among the NFLPA's requests to the NFL are daily testing, no preseason games and a "ramp up" period (21 days of strength and conditioning, 10 days of non-padded practices and 14 days of "contact acclimation") once they report to camp.
NFLPA executive committee member Sam Acho said on Sunday Morning on ESPN Radio that the NFLPA received a counterproposal from the NFL on Saturday night, but the league still hasn't addressed most of the players' concerns and is completely ignoring the advice of the doctors it hired to come up with a plan to safely start the season.
"... and so as of now we are telling players to get ready and stay ready, but if the NFL doesn't come up with these plans, you cannot show up," he said.
According to the CBA, players who do not report to training camp could be subject to fines, forfeiture of bonuses and salary and the loss of an accrued season.
Acho said the NFL needs to give players a plan on how games might be canceled or delayed because of a coronavirus outbreak and also must address the financial ramifications players might face. He also accused the NFL of waiting to apply pressure on the players instead of coming up with a plan.
"The owners, under the CBA or outside the CBA, their obligation is to provide a safe working environment for the players. ... So if they don't do that, we can't play. It's as simple as that," he said.
Rookies for the Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, the teams scheduled to play the Thursday night regular-season opener on Sept. 10, have been told to report Monday. The full-squad reporting date for the vast majority of teams is July 28.
Free agent Antonio Brown cryptically announced on Twitter that he's done playing football.ok
We'll believe it when we see it. It's the third time since September that Brown has announced his retirement and the fourth time in the past calendar year that he's threatened it. The Seahawks, Buccaneers, and Washington have all been linked to Brown throughout the offseason, so it makes little sense for the 32-year-old veteran to walk away despite his pending legal issues with the NFL. Expect Brown to land with a suitor once he's cleared by the league office.
Wow this is huge
The NFL accepted the NFLPA's demand of zero preseason games ahead of the 2020 season.Welp season back on now, I guess I have to send out those Fantasy Football renewal e-mails.
This is a gigantic step towards having the season start on time. The NFL has slowly inched towards the NFLPA's side of this argument, initially requesting two preseason games, then down to one and now agreeing to none. This will allow for a longer acclimation and strength and conditioning period for players once arriving at team facilities, as teams can now take their time to practice rather than prepare for games. Still, you have to feel for fringe NFL talents who simply won't have the opportunity to put their game on tape for other teams to see in the hopes of maximizing their opportunities. Think of names like Victor Cruz, or even recently Raheem Mostert, as players who have greatly benefited from preseason action.
Was AB hoping someone would beg him to come back or what, lol...
Season will go on, but will it finish? That's the real question.

So the Washington football team will be temporarily called... The Washington Football Team.
The Washington football team will go by "Washington Football Team" for the 2020 season.not gonna lie... I actually like that temporary name. Change "Team" to "Club" and you give it a soccer-ish feel.
Owner Daniel Snyder apparently needs a rest after a few weeks of putting his thinking cap on. Fantasy players know the pressure of coming up with a good team name all too well. Washington will still wear burgundy and gold this season, opting for burgundy helmets with gold numbers on them. Kidding aside, as Andrew Brandt put it on Twitter, there were probably too many "logistics/trademarks/lawyers" issues to make a new name happen in time for Week 1.
The NFLPA and NFL reached an agreement on CBA changes for the 2020 NFL season to move forward as scheduled.
NFL team representatives voted 29-3 in agreement with the NFL's proposal. A handful of key issues and questions from the last few weeks have been settled. First, training camp activities will move forward as scheduled on July 28, including on-field practices starting 16 days into camp with the first padded practice scheduled for 21 days into camp. The new agreement guarantees the salary cap will be at least $175 million for the 2021 season. Practice squads will increase to 16 players. There will be two categories for opt-outs: high risk and not. Also, the 2020 season was described as "pay as you go," therefore if the season were to halt entirely, players would not be paid for unplayed games.
No non-QB is worth all that.
Seattle can't draft for shit anyway, so maybe it's a good deal for them.

Not sure how I feel about this trade. We did get a 24 year old defensive star, which isn't promised with 1st picks. But I really don't like giving up 2 1sts for him, even though Seattle is a horrible 1st round drafting team... I would feel a bit better about the trade if we had an extension with Adams though..

George Kittle is in the Bay Area to stay.
The 49ers and Kittle are in agreement on a five-year, $75 million extension, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Michael Silver reported. Of the $75 million total, more than half of it is made up of guarantees, per Rapoport, with $30 million guaranteed at signing, $40 million guaranteed for injury and $18 million arriving via signing bonus.
