Ok I took the plunge... I'm still early (I think i screwed myself by selling all the rocks I found, now I cant craft an axe) but it's alright so far. The graphics and music are pleasing.

Definitely look up a beginner's guide if you're new to the series. Unless you don't mind trial and error of course. But I figure there are a lot of mechanics and things that could bite you in the ass later if you never played it before. Anyways, welcome and have fun! Yeah dig some holes and normally you should always be able to get 8 hits out of the rock and increase your chance of getting rare drops. By the way, so far I've only seen 5 golden nuggets in my game. These fuckers are really rare.
The key is basically to play red light, green light (or Annemaria Koekoek as we Dutchies call it) with them. Firstly they will never charge at you as long as you don't carry a net. So approach them without your net and grab it once it's in a good spot on your screen. Once you've got that part down just slowly approach the tarantula. Every couple of steps it will go in 'attack mode' lifting it's front legs upwards facing you. If you stand still while he's doing this he will go back to his neutral position. And just like that you can take a couple of steps at a time untill you're in reach of the damn critter. Just don't move when it's in attack mode because they will charge you instantly.

Farmed a shitload of stuff in the first few days and now it's just a matter of filling up what I'm using. Last two days I've mainly been doing some home renovating, making a foreign fruit orchard and breeding flowers. It's been calm as fuck on my island and I love it. Also gonna wait a couple of days with harvesting any fruits because I want to see every tree in town with some fruits on it on the same day. Think the orchard especially should look quite nice. Oh and I missed my bell tree yesterday apparently so I had two of them today.
First hybrid flower to pop up. On purpose at least, accidentally already had one elsewhere on the island.
Decided to create a little pop up store for my place of work in the real world. Now I just need some hot grailzzz.

I used a nook ticket and got sent to an island full of tarantulas. I died a bunch but made like 80k.

The main player basically unlocks the new things first. If you're not the main player it means you'll have to wait on the wife (or use her character) to advance with some things. The main player was the only one able to donate critters to Nook for example to unlock the museum.
Aight things are shaping up nicely. Just need to farm iron nuggets now. My island only has about 3 rocks available even with the vaulting pole. Already used the Nook ticket but the other island only had a couple too.
