Since I live in Tokyo if I bring my 3DS with me I get a ton of "surechigai"… I don't know the English word Square uses. "Passer By?" or something? It's a function where if you walk by someone who has a BD save on their DS, it automatically sends your character to their village and vice versa and you can summon them to do one attack in battle for you.
But I have gotten surechigai from people who 1-hit kill bosses (thus I have learned not to summon friends) and I have so many people in my village that I can already buy the second best Katana in the game and I haven't even finished the second chapter (of 8).
Nice game though. Great characters, classic FF style, good music, nice job system. I just wish there was more to do in the over world. It seems like you can only progress forward despite having a large world to potentially explore.
Streetpass becomes less useful later on, but you can still break the game through job combinations. However, that is part of the fun. In fact, same later bosses almost demand you to do it. The game feels like the expectation at one point is everybody being on Level 99 and your srategy is setting the obs up properly. (Swordmaster with Pirate Skills for example)

It is real, sadly. I wish I could say otherwise. But it's also important to know that you can make the drag/grind as easy as you want. If you're so inclined you can breeze through those boring chapters in probably 2-3 hours. By that time I was having so much fun with the battle system, however, that I did all the side-bosses again, just to test my strategies (and with the vain hope of more plot only to find out they did not provide more plot).
My suggestion to everyone is: skip them and breeze through to the end.

To be honest, I exclusively use my Vita for PSP games I missed + Uncharted and maybe Persona 4 at one point (and possibly RE Revelations 2, if it's a good port). So my 3DS gets a lot more playing time.

I use my vita a lot more as well. It feels better to use all around and I like playing both psp, ps2 and ps1 games I missed it just want ot replay. A shame there isn't more original games for it, but still enjoying it a lot. Also helps my enjoyment that I buy more games or course, as they're way cheaper than Nintendo a bullshit prices.
