Staying at Renault is always risky, they can pull out of F1 at anytime, they did multiple times.
In the short term, it looks like a bad decision, but on the long term I still believe it was the right call.

Don't think Merc has a real say in it, as they aren't paying for a seat (unless there is some engine discount).
FP1 was quit interesting, one for the new track, looks good and T4 not flat-out with fuel, at least with the amount of grip there is now. Weird to see some teams (RBR/Fer) throwing all the available hards away this session, others were complaining about graining on the mediums (Mercs, missing das already) Track might improve over the weekend (new tarmac), but right now it looks like it might be a two stop race.

FP2 bit useless, with 30 minutes next year tire test and two longer red flags, so expect a lot of (longruns) running tomorrow in FP3

Leclerc getting better at every weekend, shame he has one of the worst cars on the grid. I'd say this season he's on par with Verstappen, performance wise, making Vettel look like an amateur.
Albon won't have a seat next season at this rate, and Horner already said Gasly is not in contention for RBR. Good for gasly I'd say, another season at AlphaTauri and then a jump to maybe Renault in 2022. He needs to leave those cunts at Redbull asap.

Charles was the only one in karting that at times came close to Max, after lfirst few years in lower Formula classes went on to win and dominate GP3/F2 in his first season and remember interview with Nick (de Vries) talking about how he could beat anyone but Charles, just better than the rest of his generation. Did mega in his first year at ALfa and there were still people who thought he would struggle against Seb. Still find it hard to judge the Lando/George generation, but if Ferrari gets its act together Charles will deliver, zero doubt about that.
