By pilonv1 Go To PostThey won't get enough as long as it's a "division" or "select" team. Not enough spots.that's why you expand the draft... and start chipping away, get bigger and then start a double A league or expand the G-league's roster
They need to suck the volume away from the NCAA not the best guys. There's only so many coaches/boosters relatives to fill teams without real players.
By Pac-12 Go To PostNCAA is going to be alright, people will still watch because of the name on the front of the jerseys. What they'll lose, though, is the transcendent, generational talent like Zion Williamson that boosted ratings over and above the norm (Duke's YOY ratings were down this year, even though they were still a great national draw overall).if take that away plus the players who are definitely NBA starters shit starts looking like college baseball
Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, etc., will still draw viewers. If anything, the G-League growing and perhaps NBA ending the age limit will only work to stifle any further reform at the collegiate level. "Why compensate players or even just allow them to profit off their likeness when they can go pro out of high school?"
They should have expanded to 3-4 rounds when they moved to 15 player rosters and two ways. Teams are singing guys minutes after the draft anyway.
College is going to be alright, there's nothing the NBA can do to kill it. There are 300+ D1 teams, 4000 or maybe 5000 D1 athletes, and millions of alums and millions more of non-alum fans. We're still going to watch college basketball, even if it doesn't have the Kobes, LeBrons, Durants, or Zions of the world for a year. G-League isn't going to be on ESPN instead of NCAA, and March will still be about the madness.
I think players should get paid, and if the top 15 or even 30 players go pro straight out of high school, more power to them! But college basketball will still draw.

We had a direct path to the NBA before, and the NCAA was still doing alright. If NBA/G-League starts taking the entire top 100 or 200 recruits and starts putting those games on ESPN, then it's a different conversation, but I seriously doubt that ever happens. College basketball isn't really going to miss the top dozen players out of high school going somewhere else.

College basketball isn't really going to miss the top dozen players out of high school going somewhere else.30 teams would suck up 100 top recruits... The NBA direct path was with GMs needing players to contribute within 2 years period so taking 4 or 5 year projects was dangerous because it ate up a roster spot on the NBA roster but an entire league for experiments? Yeah that cuts into your draw heavy.
Imagine Obama coming to a game to watch a team led by Alex O'Connell

Thing is, I could do without the one-and-dones. The thing that killed me before Kyrie was they were in college but not playing for Duke, and it was generally a disadvantage. Those were some lean years after Redick graduated until the 2010 team made that run. But if I had my choice, I'd rather have players that would be in school for 3 or 4 years and yet still be the same caliber player that anyone else has. Let the top dozen or so players go the NBA. Go ahead, make your money, cash them checks. The rest would on average stay in college long enough for me to actually remember their faces.
I mean, I'll remember players that accomplished something regardless of how long they're around, but no lie, I had NBA TV on one time this season and saw Gary Trent Jr and was like who the hell is that. That's Gary Trent? What the fuck.... Can he at least make an open 3 now?
Coach K didn't even care about those teams... I mean people would still watch but it wouldn't be the same
I mean, I'd like to even remember Carolina players more than I do. I had legit hate for Eric Montross, Scott Williams, fucking King Rice.
Meanwhile, I can't even remember some recent dudes that suited in that lame ass argyle. Except for that sumbitch Tyler Hansbrough. My boy Hendo at least did something right in college.

I swear to god, though, I'm not even sure Marvin Williams or Brandon Wright played against Duke. Coby White, I think I might remember him for another week or two. Beyond that, doubtful.
Already forgot Nassir Little. And I just looked up more UNC one-and-dones, Tony Bradley, whodafuck?

I agree with basically everything Pac-12 is saying re: ncaab draw with the most talented players going to the nba
Steve Kerr said on Tuesday that it feels like the Warriors' season is over and he doesn't think the team will play again until next season. That's it wrap it up season ovah. Who's doing the 2020-2021 NBA Thread?
βWeβre staying in touch with guys, but everyone is just sort of assuming that this is kind of it,β he said in a Zoom call. "We're not going to be involved much anymore." Stephen Curry was quoted earlier on Tuesday saying that "it would suck" to play games with no fans in the stands and it sounds like he may not have to worry about it. Major League Baseball is talking about starting their season in late June and while Kerr's comments in no way signal the end of the NBA season, Kerr's gut feeling is probably as strong as anyone's.
Imagine where LSU hoops would be if they never gave Ben Simmons the Brinks truck

They draw would be really diminished if 60
% of the top talent didn't even consider the NCAA

Assuming that they are treating the G-league like the minors in baseball... it wouldn't even be close.
This would of course take a reworking of how the cap works with the G-league and everything... but draft a 18 year old in the first round and he'd still be a millionaire but in the G-league

Turning a so-so college career into a social media empire is the American dream, the NCAA had no business trying to keep kids from doing so.
If you leave school with no draft prospects, but 50-100k in your pocket instead of owing that in student loans you're still ahead of the game.

It was totally shitty situation. Memphis just did it as a big fuck you. Miles played 300 minutes for them at 8 min per game and Portland was on the hook for $18mil.
His contract, btw, was fully paid through insurance otherwise, so not like he wasn't gonna get paid.

It was something that happened before I was so plugged into the NBA and never knew about. And, yeah, it did suck for Portland. Still funny they threatened to sue clubs that signed him.

I feel like the first team they faced that was genuinely better than them was the 08 Celtics.
