New York State recorded about 48,000 coronavirus cases on Friday, a nearly 47 percent drop from the roughly 90,000 cases reported a week earlier, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Saturday. All signs point to omicron following the same icepick curve everywhere just like South Africa
The total number of positive cases β 47,870 β represented only 14.6 percent of the 327,427 tests reported by the state, a significant decline from the 23 percent positivity rate recorded on Jan. 2.
Christmas x New Years is why it went crazy
The amount of traveling Iβve heard/seen people I know do was crazy so Iβm assuming it was like that everywhere
By February itβll be better until the next variant in May but by then weβll at least have home tests and N95 masks for everyone

It felt waaay more lax starting around Thanksgiving. People definitely got exhausted waiting this out another year and said "fuck it". The vaccines are also seemingly preventing major/severe illness but I bet you those fully vaccinated probably believed they couldn't get it at all six months after.
This article about an anti vax group who call themselves "Alpha Men Assemble" is absolutely hilarious but also really very sad

almost recovered from COVID, tested positive last week after having to get my Mum to the hospital (she's fine now), my idiot brother gave it to us after travelling here from another city with a cough.
it sucked. I think it was Omicron. if that was ""mild"" (post-vaccination), I don't really wanna think about how terrible the previous variants were.

Co-workers son tested positive for it last week, then his wife yesterday and now he's tested positive too.

why did this take this long
By Pedja Go To Postvery brave and free
By blackace Go To Postif only there was a safe way to help your body develope immunity,What if instead of a vaccine we just were able to get exposed to a weak version of the virus that enabled us to build the antibodies we need to fight the real thing

We've 7k active cases (10 times more than our record numbers before Omicron), that's 3% of the population and it keeps growing. People only have to stay isolated for 5 days if they don't have severe symptoms, only people who live in the same house with a infected person, coworkers aren't even ordered to be tested.
The regional department of education has ordered for classes to go on as usual even if a large number of students are infected but some high schools are deciding to send classes home and some primary schools are closing.
Regional government has pretty much given up, my island only has one free testing place with very limited capacity, people who test positive on home tests need to contact the health hotline but I know of people who called for days but never got through as the lines are jammed.
Pretty much everyone I know has accepted that it's not a matter of if but when they will get infected.

Damn. Hope he gets better soon.
Schools are really massive spreaders with omicron here now. The amount of people in the hospital remains lower from this time last year though, so that's nice at least. But they are getting there.
My best friends kids both have massive outbreaks in their classes. One of them over half are missing with covid, and yet they gotta go tomorrow again. Hopefully long term effects are minimal with omicon, cause sounds like our government have also accepted that most people will get it.

University is going back to in-person on the 31st after it was announced last month that the first three weeks would go online.
it's closing in on me. only a matter of days/weeks until i will get it. can't really do much against it anymore, just hope it will be mild.
