It is "very possible" the South Africa variant could already be quite widespread in the UK, Dr Mike Tildesley, an infectious disease expert who advises the government, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-55977904
According to health minister Edward Argar 147 cases of the South Africa variant been identified in the UK, though he admitted those figures could be a couple of days out of date. He said the version of the virus first discovered in Kent was still the dominant strain.
Dr Tildesley said the "surge testing" taking place in certain areas in England "really needs to be effective" to halt the spread of the South Africa variant, but "sadly we may be in a similar situation to the Kent variant" which eventually spread across the whole country.
He says there are "significant implications" if it is the case that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is less effective against the South Africa variant, as it may mean "more restrictions might be needed for longer".

Buried my granddad today. He caught covid just two weeks ago and was gone so quickly. Just 15 people allowed in the church for the funeral and the same again for the burial.

The second shot of vaccine truly fucked me. The fever was bad enough, but then I started getting bad chest pains yesterday night and back pains too. A symptom I know too well from my dad's side of the family to take seriously.
So called the doctor, and he instantly sent an ambulance, who were convinced I was having a heart attack due to leaky heart enzymes and well, the pain. So gone through all kinds of tests and scans today, luckily it seems to just be some kind of infection that was in part of the heart, was proper a scared though. Nitroglycerin worked instantly on me for pain, so it does seem a bit weird. But they're keeping me for observations until Saturday as it is.
Obviously my body is kind of fucked in the first pls d with a bad liver, so not the experience I imagine many to have, but fucking hell. I guess it was all just too much stress for my body

My dad gets his in 2 weeks. I'm waiting for a new allotment of appointments to start with Publix Friday morning, for my in-laws.

Also, Biden announced today he will have Moderna and Pfizer 1 month ahead of schedule, and a huge increase in production. The US will have a plethora of vaccines for the entire country come June.

Took my mom and my grandparents to get their first round of vaccines earlier. Only my grandma was in the appointment list for today, but they said they had some spots open so they made room for the other two. Just picked them up right now and everything went fine. Next shot is scheduled for April. Hopefully this shit is over soon.
