a fucked up, but good read
really think its important to point out that additional effects of all this stuff. i'm pretty sure when a a full accounting is done, we're gonna see far a clearer picture of how hard people have been hit and what some folks got stuck with

By Daz Go To PostI thought the Cruise Liner industry stopped?it may have stopped but that doesn't mean everyone got to come home right away. some of those people had it worse than people in jail
When these graphs were going round at the start of the pandemic showing the Spanish flu I assumed we'd manage to avoid replicating it.

My grandparents, both in their mid 80s, on the 24th: We get it, it could be our last christmas together and it's tough but it has to be a small gathering so we decided only you, your brother and mom can come over, if you wish. Other relatives are just skypeing in.
My grandparents on the 25th: Hey, come over again for some leftovers, your uncles, aunts, cousins and their SOs and children are coming over too!
My grandparents on the 31st: Hey, can you bring over your grill and the extra garden table, I think between 20 and 25 people are coming over for NYs.
My grandparents yesterday: Hey, your uncles X and Y (My grandma's nephews from her sister who passed away last year, not related to covid) are gonna be staying over (while coming and going for supplies and meetings) for the whole week. Come say hi.

By Pac-12 Go To PostMy mother is doing fine. My uncle may also be able to go home from the hospital within the next couple of days. His journey was a bit rougher than my father's, with various complications along the way, but (as far as I'm aware) he never needed to be intubated, either.
So in the continued interests of transparency because for some reason it's important to me....
My uncle died today. He was released prior to Christmas, I'm not sure now exactly when, but overnight on 12/25 leading into 12/26, he was experiencing more problems and was readmitted to the hospital and was basically immediately put on a ventilator. His heart stopped that same day and they told my aunt to expect the worst at any moment, but he was then stabilized and we thought that maybe the worst was averted, but unfortunately not. His condition didn't improve and he succumbed to the virus late this afternoon.
This is the first death of one of my mother's siblings (her brother-in-law died earlier this year, but not from COVID), so she's taking it pretty hard.
