by the time this thread started i was doing my "lol we're all gonna die" thing but i've definitely realized that energy is only good for 3-6 months tops. thing is, i was ready for the medical ramifications but i vastly underestimated the economic effect.... i think i pivoted a bit on the economic outlook pretty early on, but people still are kinda all over the place on that note.
I'm really not sure how me pointing out a bunch of stuff about our current knowledge of the virus has anything to do with the responses of various nations to the initial pandemic? I am not, in fact, a leader of a major Western nation and had no input in their decision making.
I took it seriously for the most part, but in the back of my mind I always had the memory of the 2009 swine flu and believed (hoped) it was just another one of those.
The thing I remember the most from that time was an american journalist in a press conference with our health minister shouting questions in English over everyone else, and being generally pretty angry and aggressive about us not getting on top of it right away after a couple of american kids were diagnosed.

You don't get cookies for that.
By reilo Go To PostBecause you're claiming being right today when you've been wrong all along and prescribing people how to behave. You don't get cookies for that.I'm not sure I was ever particularly outspoken here; I've tried searching through older pages in the thread but haven't found many posts that made big predictions or much of current interest. The main things I can remember were the suggestion of deliberate infection, and arguing against long covid. I don't think the low risk for young people has ever really been in doubt?
Thus far, there's also not strong evidence for long covid - but also not strong evidence against it. It could still be demonstrated as a real phenomenon with genuine impacts on people, which would put me in the wrong there, though wouldn't necessarily mean the risk of getting infected is much higher if it is low prevalence. Still, I think my position is quite reasonable on the balance of probabilities.
that deliberate infection shit was more than enough to get you punted to the moon breh just go on lmao
do people not understand how ridiculous they look reeling off stats and being utterly pedantic after advocating sheer lunacy
"i think my position is quite reasonable on the balance of probabilities"
why wake up and be that guy. on purpose at that. at least soften that shit up with some dry humor first

Sohois is a believer in the strength of the human heart and that the power of friendship and love can beat Covid.
Reilo and DY are not believers.
Reilo and DY are not believers.
Tbh, I always believed in the heart of cards, that's why I was mostly asymptomatic when I had the virus
I still think there might be just a bit too many attention to this variant that they think is more contagious purely based on correlative evidence but this is still not preferable.
By diehard Go To Posti might just be really tired but i totally lost what the crux of this argument even wasI'm calling sohois out for still painting a rosy picture after some of the dumb things he said about the seriousness of COVID in the past.

i remember writing this.

Ghali previously said Letlow was being treated with the antiviral drug Remdesivir and steroids. Asked if Letlow had any underlying conditions that would have made his death more likely, Ghali said in a text message, "none. All COVID related."

Oh, for damn sure he didn't take it seriously enough. On that note, sohois, tell us again how we should just go out there and get it.
0.2% is actually pretty wrong but does it matter when the penalty is death? The numbers aren't low enough for me to be wreckless or even play around.

got lucky you didn't get sent to the shadow realm
By diehard Go To Post0.2% is actually pretty wrong but does it matter when the penalty is death? It's about being asymptomatic and spreading it to others especially those that I love.
By reilo Go To PostMan, it ain't even about getting myself sick or dying. It's about being asymptomatic and spreading it to others especially those that I love.Oh yeah definitely, I was just kinda speaking to the "go get it on purpose and then isolate" scenario.

Oxford vaccine approved but with the second dose coming after three months and not four weeks as was tested 🤔
Pfizer/BioNTech, whose vaccine is based on novel mRNA technology, had very positive and straightforward results, with 95% efficacy from an international trial involving 43,000 people.Still the part that bugs me.
Oxford/AstraZeneca had 62% efficacy in their largest trial, of 11,636 people, but 90% efficacy in a small additional sub-group in the UK numbering 2,741 who were given a half dose of the vaccine, followed by a whole dose four weeks later.
The researchers have pointed out that none of the volunteers in the trials who had the vaccine became seriously ill or were admitted to hospital.
By Splatt Go To PostWhy three months?Get the first dose to more people.
By Splatt Go To PostSo the 62% efficacy is for the single dose?62% was when they gave people two "full" doses a month apart.
AstraZeneca results are confusing
BBC saying the two full dose regimen is approved as there is not enough data on the half dose-full dose.
By Pac-12 Go To Postsohois, tell his kids how unlikely it is for him to have died at 41sure, but I don't think they browse slaent. Is this supposed to be some gotcha? There have been several thousand deaths of healthy working age adults from the virus. There have also been thousands of deaths from traffic accidents, from accidents in general, from rare complications of other common diseases, from rare diseases, and many other causes. Each one is very unfortunate for the victim but highly unlikely overall.

Lol
By Punished* Go To PostOxford vaccine approved but with the second dose coming after three months and not four weeks as was tested 🤔Also the reason why they prolly won't get an EU approval anytime soon.
Still the part that bugs me.
Kinda weird that they haven't even fully gone for it yet.
By DY_nasty Go To PostDoes vaccine cover super rona?In theory if the mRNA protein is still the same, the Pfizer/Moderna vaccines will work the same.
