We won't know what even a hollow attempt at containment will look like in the states until January
Until then, we haven't hit the ceiling

By Xpike Go To PostDid America ever try?The federal response was non-existent. Some states did things over the summer. My state went into lockdown like April and May and then the government basically gave up. It's worse here than ever, but the governor is doing nothing and lunatics are making the school board vote like every other week to reopen schools.
The virus isn't real, but also America got the best vaccine first. They spent so much money on it, more money than anyone else. The best money.
This year I re-read one of my favorite novels, Saramago's Blindness, and I laughed when a day after the "infection" started the health minister had identified and locked up the first group with military efficiency. If only our nu-fascists were that fucking good.
If conservatives believed in it, they'd probably still blame the liburls for the soft response anyway.

The new coronavirus infected people in the U.S. inn mid-December 2019, a few weeks before it was officially identified in China and about a month earlier than public health authorities found the first U.S. case, according to a government study published Monday.

It's like closing outdoor dining when they say that's not a problem... err nevermind places are doing that.

Have to say I'm very much looking forward to the fallout when vaccine supply into the UK becomes constrained due to hard Brexit.
I'm curious about laws regarding obtaining the upcoming vaccines, will sports leagues be able to pay a premium to get them early or something like with testing? Testing was a bit different as any lab that got approval could technically sell their services...

I genuinely don't think there are any rules for this set in stone yet (where the UK is concerned). There's some murmurs that frontline health workers are no longer a priority (it's ok, we can just clap for them again) and that care homes and their workers are a sole priority for now. That's about as far as they've got.

“It was completely off the rails from what is normal for us, and that was obviously very alarming,” said Erik Jespersen, principal of Oregon's McNary High School, where 38% of grades in late October were failing, compared with 8% in normal times.
Educators see a number of factors at play: Students learning from home skip assignments — or school altogether. Internet access is limited or inconsistent, making it difficult to complete and upload assignments. And teachers who don't see their students in person have fewer ways to pick up on who is falling behind, especially with many keeping their cameras off during Zoom sessions.
