Like nobody at my work gets a flu shot. Lol
By Fenderputty Go To PostYearly Rona shotAntibodies declining over a year isn't something new in fact it is very normal. No need to jump to the conclusion that you would no longer be immune. As the virus has only been out in the wild for less than a year it's hard for anyone to say with certainty that you would be immune.
Despite the clickbait title for the article it does mention what I just said. Also SARS-CoV-2 isn't influenza. Survivors of the previous SARS-CoV-1 do show long term immunity.

Yeah I was reading more, hopefully itβs not yearly. I do get my yearly flu tho
a yearly shot would imply that SARS-CoV-2 has the mutation capabilities of the flu , I think most signs point to it not having that. If it doesn't, a 95% effective shot with mass rollouts has the possibly of killing it altogether.. obviously very optimistically speaking at this point.
At 95% ... what % of the population would need to take the vaccine to reach that sort of herd immunity??
I imagine it will be around through 2022 before it's wiped out.
What we do know is ~1% of people who get CoV-2 die so to be able drop that down to 0.05% is great for everyone.
By Fenderputty Go To PostAt 95% β¦ what % of the population would need to take the vaccine to reach that sort of herd immunity??~50%. Also we don't know what they mean by effective. People still may be carriers of the virus but not get sick or have mild symptoms. They also may just prevent more people from not getting severely sick but the death rate remains same. Still hard to tell with just the preliminary findings released. At this point it's hard to know without the findings being published for peer review.

By blackace Go To Postit has mutated already, hasn't it?I think they're saying covid-19 mutates relatively slow, and not as fast as the common flu.
Atrazeneca's vaccine update:
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/19/oxford-covid-vaccine-prompts-immune-response-among-all-adults-study.html
The study of 560 healthy adults, including 240 over the age of 70-years-old, found the vaccine to be safe and produced a similar immune response among people aged over 56-years-old and those aged between 18 and 55.
British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, which is working in collaboration with the University of Oxford, has previously said interim data showed their experimental vaccine had produced an immune response in older and younger adults.
The authors of the Oxford study said their results could be encouraging if the immune responses are found to be associated with protection against Covid-19 infection.
The phase two trial did not assess vaccine efficacy, however, and phase three trials are ongoing to confirm this.

By blackace Go To Postit has mutated already, hasn't it?Yep, It just mutates a lot slower than influenza. What it will really mean in the long run is still mostly just speculation, but if vaccines are truly 95% effective against current strains that is a great sign for the possible practical elimination of it , with the other major factor being length of immunity.
The Mumps vaccine has a 10 year life of about 90% effectiveness and there are still some outbreaks every once in a while, same with Measles (96% effective, lifelong).
Thinking it would be closer to those viruses is really optimistic but at least the long term outlook looks much better than influenza vaccinations which since 2004 have had between 10-60% effectiveness in the US.
Like Lunatic was saying, more data on the vaccine's effectiveness is needed to make any accurate long term predictions. It's possible that even with infection after vaccination that COVID has much milder symptoms than without it. I would assume they can't even draw many conclusions about that considering only 13 people combined between both mRNA vaccines were infected.

Our local secondary has been closed 3 times since the term started because they keep getting corona outbreaks. Kids are told they have to isolate for 2 weeks each time. Do they? Nope. Gangs of little shits roaming the streets all hours of the day not caring if they kill their grandparents.
Frontline health workers, care home residents and staff and over 80s will be first to get a coronavirus vaccine in Scotland. The hierarchy is not really new or surprising but I was surprised at such a ballsy suggestion being made in the third paragraph. Especially since the Oxford vaccine presumably won't be out before Christmas.
Next in line will be over 65s and younger people with underlying health conditions likely to badly affected by the virus.
More than one million people in Scotland could be vaccinated by the end of January, the health secretary Jeane Freeman told parliament on Thursday.
