By blackace Go To PostSo to recap, we know for sure there are negative side effects from SARS and that some of these studies report 40% of their subjects have negative side effects years after the fact and some how we get a number of 0.01%?No, to recap we have prevalence studies on several common viruses which have side effects at less than 1% prevalence, suggesting that COVID would be similar. A number of studies on SARS - including the PTSD one - were performed on hospitalized patients and found they had bad side effects. These studies were not done on prevelance and don't tell us much about what to expect for COVID. At best, you could argue that quite high numbers of hospitalized SARS patients suffered side effects, so therefore for COVID you should look at hospitalization numbers and work from there, but as far as I'm aware there is little to suggest that large numbers of those hospitalized for COVID have suffered anything like SARS sufferers.
I still think the risk is much higher..
This is not to suggest that long COVID will therefore not be prevelant at all, but our base rate for effects should be low since our only strong evidence is that for the likes of CMV

Some prick my father was working with went to work while waiting for a test result and today he found out he's positive. Didn't say anything until after he got the result.

My father's test came back negative.

Have had a dry cough for over a week, proper head cold started yesterday and I feel even worse today. So it's either a bad cold or the rona.
Test appointment isn't until Saturday so I'm self quarantining 👍🏻

Things keep getting worse in Portugal. 3270 new cases today, we were below the 900 daily cases at the start of the month.
Friends of mine are driving to France with a newborn to get away which I can get, but then they are visiting Disneyland...

France hitting more than 41k for a day is very disconcerting, that is a really high number for a country of 69 million.
It seems like unless you are in Asia, every country has been either already been hit hard or is seeing huge spikes now.
edit: damn all these European counties are spiking hard.

By aka Espi Go To PostThe amount of people that take off their masks to sneeze bruh
Why the fuck even wear a mask
I'm getting fucked off with parents deciding their shitty kids don't need to wear masks.
I watched a guy at work sneeze with his mask off into his hand
I just gave him the most disgusted look and he had this look of shame and put his mask back on. Luckily he was like 60 feet away but still
Then the other day I had to get my car worked on and this old ass dude takes his mask off to sneeze. I got up and walked outside. You’re like fuckin 80 why you even outside

Use of masks while in public is now obligatory in Portugal for the next 70 days and that includes while walking on the street if there's no possibility of maintaining social distance to others. Fines for not wearing one will go from 100 to 500 euros.
It's not applied to the Azores, our situation is still under control, we've been having between 2 and 5 new cases daily while doing over 1000 tests a day and 90% are from people who arrived recently and have tested positive either on arrival or 6 days later. There's very few cases of local transmission and when detected, the local authorities have done an excellent job in containing it.

They'll probably settle for a field goal.
Things are bad in Europe but most countries are doing something about it. Partial and full lockdowns are being put in place, tight controls about wearing masks.
By diehard Go To Postthe EU is actually blowing us away now, really an amazing comeback.yep. winter gonna be insane
We are having a spike here as well but they are only returning travelers or visitors. These people are subject to mandatory 14 day isolation at a government facility or hotel or if you are rich enough at home geo fenced in with a guard. Haven't had to wear a mask in months.
