totally isolating yourself for 2 weeks then making a 7 hour trip without contacting anybody could be an option but thats quite a commitment.
By diehard Go To Postdude that is still insaneIt's also not possible as there is re-fueling, bathroom breaks (for both humans and dogs), food, etc. While going through areas that are handling the pandemic about as poorly as you can. And then, once we get to where my mom is, trying not to contract it from anyone in that area and then passing it to her. Or her passing it to us. Causing us to possibly suffer permanent heart and lung damage.

No. We are just going to have to wait for a safe vaccine to exist that we can all afford to take and also make sure the rest of the country has a high enough saturation point of vaccinations to make this kind of travel safe again.

By diehard Go To Postdude that is still insaneWhile there is no certainty about lasting immunity, it is at least known that there is some immunity. If you had the virus confirmed by a test, at the very least you wouldn't need to worry about being infect again within ~3 months. There is still the risk that 2 weeks isn't sufficient to completely neutralize the threat of passing it on, but you could account for that.

Still, I'm fortunate enough not to have consider these kind of calculations, not to mention that even if my risk appetite is high, other peoples' might not be and you can't just go around assuming only your opinion matters. But the death rates for young people really are lower than the flu, while long covid symptons display in 2% of confirmed patients, which means probably less than 1% of infections, and again even lower for young people. If you're under 50 and healthy, you should be less risk averse for yourself
My under 50 healthy friend from childhood was hospitalized with it two weeks ago. He wasn't in the hospital very long, just a few days, but what doesn't kill you can still mess you up.
And since this is America, it can also wreck your finances.

I've seen my family, we just hang out in the backyard, stay a few feet apart and wear masks. I do miss my sister and nephews, they left NY for the boonies in PA back in March and bought a house there last month since it's cheaper to own than rent/airbnb. I saw my nephews pretty much every weekend for the past 10 years until the outbreak, now I've seen them just 3 times. I'd go up, but I'd have to get a test first and then not come in contact with anyone for a few days after which is impossible. My brother in laws mom has a house in PA, and they see her often, but she's immunocompomised so they have to keep the bubble around her airtight which is fine as I love her like an auntie. Just miss my guys.
Also, we're not white so we cant gamble with our health like that in America, rate of death for us is higher.

There is still the risk that 2 weeks isn't sufficient to completely neutralize the threat of passing it on, but you could account for that.you still have a risk of dying (small risk) and a risk of potential lifetime issues. Imagine infecting yourself on purpose and losing your sense of taste indefinitely...

By i can get you a toe Go To PostThe fuck is up with people who act like the only downside of Covid is dying.Exactly, and some people get scar tissues and lung issues for weeks (even young healthy ones) so I wouldn't risk it just because.
Can y'all fucking stop.
As one research team noted, men are especially likely to opt out of wearing masks, believing them to be “shameful,” “a sign of weakness,” and “not cool”—even though men are at higher risk than women of dying from coronavirus infection. A similar pattern has emerged during prior pandemics and across other areas of health: Men—especially those who endorse traditional masculine gender norms—have been less likely than women to engage in protective health behaviors.

At 5.59pm last Wednesday, five minutes after news of five new Covid deaths and 611 new cases were announced, Stephen Donnelly tweeted a video of his achievements in his first 100 days as Health Minister. "He's only getting started," the narrator concluded.😬

Realistically it's likely most people won't ever have to worry about reinfection, it's 23 cases of out millions worldwide and most seem to be among people whose inmume systems weren't exactly in top shape

I believe it doesn't quite have the mutational capabilities of influenza and while the half-life of antibodies doesn't seem to be great, T-cell memory might be enough to protect from future lethality (could be like getting a bad cold or whatever) as long as the mutations arent drastic.

cases here hit a new record high. sure it's not as high as in some other places but still pretty bad. 4 weeks ago you'd think this shit was over as people just started to live again normally with social distancing practically gone so it's not a surprise we ended back here.

Let's be honest, people can't always stay in a high alert mode, but I wish some would be a little bit more careful out there.

Man Who Called COVID a ‘Hoax’ Feels Guilty After He and 13 Family Members Test Positive — and 2 Die

some good news: A study submitted to the WHO back in May stating that the COVID's IFR has a median of 0.27% (0.05% for people under 70) has been peer reviewed and published by them. But its the WHO so by next week it will be revoked with them saying they didn't really mean it.
There's not really anything particularly actionable about it on a macro scale but I think its still better than the early 3% and more recent 1% estimates.

edit: oh nevermind there is a list past all the citations at the bottom
So Texas is poised to overtake California in total cases, we are averaging 50k+ new cases per day last few days, and it's looking likely we'll see 300,000 deaths by the start of 2021.

More than we've had at our highest day in March.
Things are looking bad. Still not as bad as some countries nearby, but still scary regardless.
Allthough they've mentioned that numbers might be slightly higher as some labs had to send their test to different labs, since they were at full capacity and therefore the process of reporting took longer.
