Trump administration officials met with congressional leaders last month and told them they would probably give emergency approval to a coronavirus vaccine before the end of Phase 3 clinical trials in the United States, perhaps as early as late September, according to two people briefed on the discussion. What could go wrong

The 33-year-old’s second SARS-CoV-2 infection was detected via airport screening on his return to Hong Kong from Europe this month. Researchers at the University of Hong Kong used genomic sequence analysis to prove that he had been infected by two different strains. The information technology worker didn’t develop any symptoms from his second infection, which might indicate any “subsequent infections may be milder,” the researchers said.
While some patients have tested positive for the virus over many weeks, even after their symptoms have resolved, scientists haven’t fully understood whether these cases reflect lingering traces of the virus, a re-eruption of an infection, or a new infection.
This is “the world’s first documentation of a patient who recovered from COVID-19, but got another episode of COVID-19 afterwards,” the researchers said in an emailed statement.

I have questions:
how can you assume the virus Is asymptomatic during second infection due to previous infection if most people are asymptomatic during first infection
If person of infected, are they still carriers during second infection
This seems like it would imply we may need boosters?
If anyone else ever had the question about if the amount of virus you are exposed to matters..

A Florida judge ruled on Monday that the state’s requirement that public schools open their classrooms for in-person instruction violates the Florida constitution because it “arbitrarily disregards safety” and denies local school boards the ability to decide when students can safely return.Darn constitutions

7.2% forecasted for us mainly because tourism represents 30% of the economy and that isn't coming back until there is a vaccine.

They even refuse to say that they're effective re COVID cus they're not.
Well that headline talks about reinfection in the US but yea it should acknowledge that other countries confirmed that possibility
Time to be an asshole who doesn't read and or is just dumb atm, is this reinfection of the same strain? Is this even a relevant query? Cause last I checked there aren't even the same Coronas going around. Does fighting off one even mean you can deal with another? Have they even really locked down the separate strains and where they mutated?

Perhaps it's similar to how the flu is different every year?

The guy in HK got infected in China or HK first earlier during the year, got infected with a different strain in Spain now. It sounded like his prior infection made made this one pretty mild.

Since this is all still pretty dynamical and researchers are still working on it, there is no real answer yet.

Problem is just that reporting about is really complex. Hardly any journalist got the necessary backround to put things into perspective, since the whole virus is an ongoing and developing situation. Alot of new topics occur, new studies are published and things change pretty fast.
That's why I personally really enjoyed a podcast by the public broadast in Germany. They got a journalist who is able to put things into perspective and got the chief virologist who advises our health minister and the government in general.
Enjoyable and without any hectic or fear mongering and they pretty much admit false positions whenever new informations or studies changed some standpoints.
Sadly, this doesn't stop click bait either. I'm generally not a fan of media reporting on scientific stuff. How often did we get a cure for cancer among alot of other things. While the actual studies just shown some good process, but never actually propose a real cure yet.
By DY_nasty Go To PostI thought Japan and S Korea both confirmed it as wellJapan was maybe a false positive, but China definitely reported this two weeks ago

STURGIS, S.D. — Tens of thousands of motorcyclists roared into the western South Dakota community of Sturgis on Friday, lining Main Street from end to end, for the start of an annual rally that kicked off despite objections from residents and with little regard for a public health emergency ravaging the world.
It could have been any other past summer rally in Sturgis, with herds of R.V.s, bikers and classic cars converging for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, a 10-day affair that was expected to attract roughly 250,000 enthusiasts this year — about half the number who attended last year but a figure that puts it on track to be among the country’s largest public gatherings since the first coronavirus cases emerged in the spring.

Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota all added more cases in a recent seven-day stretch than in any previous week of the pandemic. Together, they reported 19,133 new cases in the week ended Sunday, according to a New York Times database — 6.4 percent of the national total, though the five states are home to only 4 percent of the population. In each, some of the biggest surges in new case numbers have come in college towns.
The Dakotas, which had made it through the summer without suffering the big increases seen in some other parts of the country, have both recently set single-day case records. On Saturday, South Dakota added 425 new cases and North Dakota added 374, their worst days yet. Grand Forks, home of the University of North Dakota, has one of the highest per capita growth rates in the country.
