By diehard Go To PostLebron misses a large percentage of clutch free throws
Yes
Thankfully AD hit those
Cannot believe they called a tech there and then the foul on Theis was an anticipation call. Theis wasn't trying to foul but the refs thought he was intentionally fouling.
LOL they call that now. Ok.
I mean he did foul him but I saw a lot of fouls go uncalled the last 6 minutes for both teams.

By friskykillface Go To PostLakers vs Pelicans would be an even seriesNah, Pelicans have no answer for LeBron and the Lakers have enough bodies to throw at Zion and Ingram.
Lakers should be shook if the Pelicans take over the 8th
e: i would give just about anything to see the Pelicans pull a We Believe against the Lakers and Davis, though
As much as I can't stand Marcus Smart that dude is an insane defender. Bron and AD couldn't do anything against him in the post.
AD nearly blew this game getting punked by people 5 inches smaller. Hate to see it. Good game though

Wasn’t able to watch the game but saw Lakers got 43 bench points and the W. Not bad. And bench is getting some fortifying with Morris today.
By RATHasReturned Go To PostHe threw a terrible pass.shamet clearly addled from playing with ben simmons
By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostJrue in his bag with the spin moveHe's as good in this second half as he was bad in the first half. Him, Melli, and Zion have been the biggest offensive impact players tonight. A rough one for Ingram.
By unknown Go To Postbang melo clutch again. people dont duck me!Nobody ducking about having to be clutch against the Pistons 😂

Article with some interesting information about what it is like for overseas players learning to play in the NBA: https://theathletic.com/1630597/2020/02/24/nicolo-melli-is-finally-letting-it-fly-and-its-been-a-game-changer-for-pelicans/?source=dailyemail

It wasn’t because of a lack of confidence, though. He’s just a very unselfish player (with excellent passing skills) and he prefers to take shots when he’s wide open.
What he’s had to learn over the past few months is that a wide open shot in the NBA is much different than a wide open shot in the EuroLeague. All players need in this league is a glimmer of daylight to splash a 3-pointer. With the 24-second shot clock and with pace at an all-time high, passing up those shots bogs down an offense more than anything.
With shooters of Melli’s caliber, any clean look at the rim should result in a 3-point attempt. Passing up those looks only bogs down the offense.
Long film sessions with his player development coaches has opened the rookie’s eyes to when he should be looking for those shots, and now he’s at the point where he gets mad at himself when he sees those open opportunities on tape and he hadn’t taken them. He says it’s almost like he’s betraying the team’s trust in him.

“Understanding the spacing, because it’s different in Europe,” Melli said when asked what’s been the biggest difference with his defense. “(I had to learn) what I’m allowed to do and what I’m not allowed to do, because it’s different.”

e: i just find that particular play very emblematic of Whiteside; he just doesn't try and his stats are just the low-hanging fruit a person of his size can get
Meh, dude's 1st in blocks and 3rd in rebounds. Wouldn't really call that low hanging fruit, per se. Big problem is just that he doesn't shift direction well and it's a little too easy to fake him off his feet because he's chasing those blocks a little too much. That, and he's not a facilitator. At all. I don't see a lack of effort there, generally speaking although Jokic makes him look pathetic most of the time. Then again, he does that to most centers.
Portland's big problem is green as grass and/or trash bench and a lack of dudes 6'10" and above. Makes it way too easy to mug Whiteside, draw fouls on him and generally just run the whole starting lineup (3/5 of which are actually bench guys) straight off the floor. For example, POR's bench scoring last night was a whopping 10 points and a whole 5 rebounds- cost the team a 20ish point lead at the start of the second.

Whiteside is among the laziest defenders I have ever seen and doesn't have quick hands to help make up for it. People just aren't afraid of driving at him despite his blocked shots. Apparently the players backing him up that are shorter than 6'10" don't cause a drop off for team defense, either.
I've been a lifetime Whiteside hater, though. He played himself out of the league when he was in SAC and the Heat couldn't wait to get rid of him after his contract year.

You gotta feel for Portland though. It's been tough to watch them so depleted, missing starters and key players. With a full squad and a role player addition or two during this off season, I think they're a lock for the 3rd seed next year, imo.
I have some sympathy for teams facing injury issues, but... *gestures vaguely at last twelve years of NOLA NBA basketball*
Even without additions they're a lock for 3-4 seed next year if they can stay healthy I'd wager. Get them a good bench PG and some more seasoning for those rookies and they're a title contender.
I see Whiteside as a damn good bench center that's overpriced if you're looking for my unvarnished opinion. I really don't get the hate and he's a clear and obvious upgrade over Kanter.

The Wolves now have the third-worst record. Really going hard after ... Anthony Edwards, I guess?
This draft is horrible.
