I love Discovery. I like the crew a lot after two seasons and it has enough truly interesting ideas to sail through some occasional silly or lazy plotting
Real Star Trek, baby
Real Star Trek, baby
It was a pretty bad first season overall. I don't particularly dislike any of the characters, in that I think they could be turned into fairly decent ones with a competent writing team behind them. Alas.
I'm surprised you lads stuck with it till the end. I wanted to kill myself halfway through.
The sad reality is that no one making Star Trek gives a shit about it, it's core and what it represents. Fuck all of them.

What a beautiful excuse, never heard that one before. It's not trying to be anything like the thing it's based on, but it doesn't succeed at doing what it's supposed to do either. It fails at basic plotting and it's actually not that interesting either.
And forgive me for giving a shit a show with the name "Picard" in it actually gets the main character wrong. If you think it succeeds with the way Picard acts in some scenes, then I question if you ever watched TNG at all.

nothing has tried to be a traditional star trek series since enterprise, networks probably think it isnt too edgy for modern audiences which is why every crew member in discovery is a hidden sociopath
I mean, I knew what it was going to do. I even joked with Zabo before we started watching so it's not like it came as a surprise to me. Especially after Discovery and Kurtzman's eternal involvement.
But at some point, when you purposely "forget" even what basic ass things like the Federation, Picard, Romulan society, Starfleet, etc. (pretty minor things, right?) stand for, the least you could do is make a point as to why you made those choices. Have something to say. Tell a good story, have interesting performances or dynamics. But Alex is a fucking hack and pretty much the wrong person to do any of that.
Like, fuck, Watchmen did it. You are allowed to do it.

Having BCS, The Plot Against America and My Brilliant Friend airing the same day has been a bright spot during these times.

I thought it succeeded in wanted it was trying to be for the most part. Main problem for me was the supporting characters.
The show pretty much spells out for you that this isn’t the same Picard that you saw after TNG/Nemesis. He is pretty much on a suicide mission trying to make up for shit that has happened since TNG ended.
By toku Go To Postwith his head up his ass
By Lunatic Go To PostI still don't know if I like this season of Westworld
I’m really digging it
By batong Go To PostI like the music (covers) if nothing else 🤷♂️The music in the beginning of the last ep was ace.
By Fenderputty Go To PostI’m really digging itis anyone enjoying terminator Dolores?
the show fell off a cliff for me a long time ago. Gone's the pseudo-philosophical conversations and all we have now is some really decent ideas executed in the most painfully shallow and sterile way imaginable. Jesse's drug trip lmao what a way to squander that
Sera turning people into hosts basically is brilliant but it didn't really stick to landing
it's probably just me expecting too much or something they were never aiming for
i gave up on westworld two eps into season 2. it was painfully obvious those writers were up their ass beyond the point of no return.

It’s forced, but I’m having fun. I laughed when he looked like he was tripping on E loving her during her terminator scene.
For the most part I like where the story is going. The whole world all finding out their lives are being controlled at once ... whew
Better Call Saul is something else. Had to remind myself to breathe during the last part of the episode. holy crap
By data Go To PostI started watching the Sopranosup there with The Wire
the last season and the finale in particular was fucking FIRE
Me too. Just finished the first season. Some insanely good shit in there. Carmela's takedown of Father Phil had me rolling
Also holy shit Better Call Saul is good and Vince Gilligan should be America's Head of Television

Bad news everyone:
J.J. Abrams is taking on the popular comic book series Justice League Dark as a new producing project under his Bad Robot production label, adapting it into a series for WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service, HBO Max.
WarnerMedia hasn’t announced any details about the project other than it will live exclusively on the streaming service. Justice League Dark is an ongoing comic book series that focuses on the more supernatural characters that appear within the DC Universe, including John Constantine (who was portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 live-action movie).
okay so here's the thing
I like Better Call Saul, it's well made and everything and Kim is a wonderful character/actress (shout out to Lalo and Nacho too)
but I just can't stand good guy Jimmy, he's insufferable if not downright unlikable. He does this thing where he speaks softly when he's good guying and it gets on my nerves lmao
glad the plot is finally going somewhere, I'm tired of character building arcs.

Devs was very much my shit. Didn't think Garland was gonna stick the landing but he did, again. Very emotional but earned.
If anything else, the entire last episode is gorgeous. Visually *and* the score. Definitely pull the shades and grab a drink. Relax.
By Yurt Nomura Go To Postokay so here's the thingJimmy is always scheming some shit or lying. When's he ever good guying?

the series' low point is season four.
maybe i was burned out because i was watching a whole bunch of episodes every single day, but it just didn't do it for me anymore.
picks up again, though.

You mean does it ever stop tackling philosophical and esoteric ideas head on and caring almost solely about that much like both Nolans have spent every single turn of their career doing? No
