By diehard Go To PostHaven't even watched the new episode but smh they just can't leave the past be in the past and make a new thing huhBen: "Let the past die, kill it"
Disney: "nope, here's 12 new shows about old characters"
TLJ was the direction everything star wars needed to go to revitalize the series and make it soulful, and Disney chose to listen to the neckbeards instead
Luke looked like a Ken Doll version of himself, what happened? This show has a giant budget but skimped on this?
By Lupercal Go To PostLuke looked like a Ken Doll version of himself, what happened? This show has a giant budget but skimped on this?CGI people are incredibly difficult. I thought Luke here was better than Tarkin in Rogue One
By reilo Go To PostThe best thing Rian ever did was try to move the franchise away from the Skywalkers. Disney clearly likes to only pander to that family lineage and it's sad.It was a good thought failed by a lack of cohesive plan for the trilogy, 8 was the best of the 3, but didn't follow 7 well, and then 9 was a shambles
TLJ was a half-assed attempt of trying to subvert expectation and going in a new an fresh direction. But Ryan forgot to write an interesting story for anybody else but Rey and Luke and had neither interest nor respect for a franchise with dozens of movies, books and games. He said fuck was happened before me or after me and therefore he and the people around him who allowed this mess deserve the vitriol they get.
I think with the right director who has respect for the material the Luke twist everybody hated could have worked well.

The Luke stuff is great. The Snoke stuff is great. Hell, I even think Oscar Isaac’s shit is great. Finn and Rose ain’t too strong but awful is harsh
By JesalR Go To PostCGI people are incredibly difficult. I thought Luke here was better than Tarkin in Rogue OneTrue, but it kinda deflated the whole moment. Tarkin atleast had a symmetric face, Luke's was all square. That said, I didn't hate it.
I'll always disagree on what Snoke became in TLJ. If we want to talk about reverting to the same characters, killing off a character that had a chance of some extra story, to use Big Ben as the bad felt so dull

Both Poe and the Finn/Rose storylines needed another scene or two, but they're okay as they are. The Luke/Kylo/Rey plot is so strong that it makes the flaws with the other parts stand out.
Still, the worst of TLJ's plot is mediocre at worst. That it was apparently the straw that broke the camel's back for some will always be bizarre to me, especially after the prequels.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostYeah, the star of Until Dawn.
That's unexpected, I really need to watch it someday. Caught some scenes on TV a few times and it looked very bizarre.
It is one of my favorite tv series of all time, when Lars von Trier was still truly great. It's very Twin Peakish. This baby is a few weeks old lmao
There is a scene where it's born, and Udo Kiers head just bursts out of a vegena. Sensational cinematography
By domino Go To Postaight the ST ain’t that bad now come onat least GT had super 17 and baby
GT was nearly irredeemable.
the best thing about the sequel trilogy was the trailers lol
I really enjoyed Mando's final two episodes. S2 had its ups and downs, overall it was fine. Not a SW "fan", so the fanservice doesn't bother me.
The finale especially looked fucking pristine on the OLED with all the black and the blasts. Demo material good.

Mando:
Why does all the de-aging in Star Wars movies look 80 times worse than the Marvel ones
They're owned by the same goddamn company

By DerZuhälter Go To PostYeah gotta say: Film Crit is wrong. About everything. And just making the essay 7000 or 70000 words long, doesn't make it right. I know what he is trying to argue, but it's simply not the case.
It could have been Kyle Katarn. It could have been Yaddle or it could have been a random stranger. Yes it's borderline fan fiction - but it makes absolute sense that it was Luke. And on the other hand it would have always come to this outcome, no matter what. Mando, Din was always going to give Grogu away at one point or another. That was his mission. Think about the alternative. I'll come back to it later
There are two rationales of the direction of the show that I've heard quite often now.
1) There are those who want "The Mandalorian" basically to be a "Kung Fu" style serial. The wanderer, doing job after job on different planets. Expanding the known canon universe. Creating new stuff.
Absolutely valid approach and something that must be done sooner or later.
But also runs the risk of getting stale and feeling samey or even "sidequest" video-gamey as some might argue.
2) Others recognize that Star Wars is in dire need of "repairs" a mending and course correction of the cavalcade of garbage that are the extremely disjoointed and disconnected prequels, OT and sequels. They want the blanks filled in. The EU that has been ripped away reintegrated. They want the overall universe and timeline that JJ and friends just shat out, make sense.
Filoni and Favreau are navigating this tightrope and started at 1 and are now deep at 2. Unfortunately not everyone is a fan of this.
So going back to the specifics of the finale:
So what could have been the alternative? A different jedi sure. But still it would have the same outcome and it would raise the fair question and point: we have to see what happens to Grogu since we don't know this person who took him.
The other alternative: no one shows up and we continue the "Kung Fu" wanderer and the kid approach for x seasons.
Looking at the money machine baby yoda is, it's pretty brave to depart the tried and tested gunslinger & the kid formular.
So no I don't think it's a cheap nostalgia plug putting Luke in or lazy writing.
I actually think it's kind of brilliant and increases the impact of that final scene. They are giving the number 2 fans exactly what they are yearning for. The fan fic Luke scene. There it is. But at the same time that what they wanted the most, takes away what they and incidentely Din loves most, Baby Yoda/Grogu. The impact of the high and the following low gets increased.
Mando completed his mission. There is no cliffhanger. The story of these two ends here. And as Star Wars fans, knowing what happens to Luke's academy, it feels even worse. (I don't suspect most to know who actually died during Kylo's purge but that's a different story).
So here we are at our lowest. Yeah the Darksaber bullshit wasn't solved but that doesn't even matter. Even the pick me up of the Boba Fett stinger is designed the same way.
TV show about Boba? Boba Fett is the main character of the next season?!?! My dreams have been answered OMGoooooooooood.
And they switch the telly off and want to get to the message board… but the feeling that keeps on lingering is that of…
…
I think it's a brilliant bait and switch - and I think Filoni and Favreau understand they have to switch between catering 1 & 2 to keep everybody happy. Reinventing what the show is after only 2 seasons is mroe than bold to say the least. So I really don't get these complaints from Film Crit.
Instead of typing I’m just gonna say I agree with this 100.
so baby yoda is later killed by Kylo Ren? We know Luke starts to train at some point.
Not necessarily.
Just gives Disney the option of making him a NotJedi like Ahsoka, Ezra, anyone else who left the order. Also, no one would lose sleep if everything in the sequel trilogy was some alternate universe at this point. If any fucks were given on Disney's end then they'd be following up on what's left afterwards instead of deciding to expand on existing gaps within the non-ST timeline.

Not 100% sure. But I saw some people mention a comic released before Rise of the Skywalker that went into more detail on the purge and basically explained Ren didn't kill anybody. Yeah that stupid canon comic basically whitewashed Ren from any guilt explaining a red lightning storm destroyed the temple and surprised the pupils that were in it. Only 3 Jedi were.mentioned by name who were I think killed by the Knights of Ren.To cut a long story short - anything could happen because it's the same with Star Wars as with Marvel. If you didn't see the dead body, there is always a return on the table.
I can't believe that many people are so hot on the Mandalorian finale. It's boring pandering with terrible cg to go with it. Apparently all anybody wants from Star Wars is literally the same thing from 40 years ago.

I just wanted the stoic badass having cowboy samurai adventures with a baby for 5 seasons, I didn't need this, I don't need Boba Fett, I don't need stupid references, I want the continuing adventures of Din Djarin and his non-Skywalker pals
TLJ defense-force is the weirdest I have ever seen. Consists probably mostly out of people who hate Star Wars anyway and love the fact Rian did something "different" and unexpected. Probably the same type of people crying out for the Snyder-Cut who want to see Batman get raped in a prison and Quentin Tarantino have a go at Frozen 3.
You can be fresh, exciting and do unexpected things without shiting on what has been established.

I guarantee you there is a VAST crossover with people who loved the Mandalorian finale and people who want the Snyder cut. And I mean VAST.
When people are pandered to by creators, they are happy. Big correlation between Snyder cut bros and Mando S2.

id argue JJ did even worse by making the entire OT completely pointless

Turning the most hopeful character into a nihilist and having hyperspace jumping cruisers destroy half an armada ain't enough?
By n8 dogg Go To PostWhen people are pandered to by creators, they are happy. Big correlation between Snyder cut bros and Mando S2.Wow. You gotta explain to me how Snyder is pandering to Superman and Batman fans with his garbage that doesn't one bit understand the core character traits and motivations of these established characters.
By Xpike Go To Posti always hear ryan didn't "respect" star wars and i don't get it, what is that supposed to meanHe didn't respect John Boyega. That's for damn sure. TLJ killed my continued interest in Star Wars.

How do you define what a Superman or Batman fan is?

Mm unlike JJ who made him a janitor in the first one and who made him literally not give a shit about anyone except Rey in the third one, all he did was make Finn a character willing to sacrifice himself for the entire resistance and give him a subplot where his character and said character’s growth was the focus. That fucking Rian Johnson, ugh. Better to have him just running around screaming ‘rey i have something to tell you’ without... having him tell her.
Anyway, Mando... we all knew it was heading this way. I secretly hoped it would stay on the fringes of the movie happenings a little bit longer, but there were some good eps this season.

The implication of Abrams’ use of him being miles better was what I was responding to.
And yea, Snyder is pandering to them. These fans wanted a Snyder cut, that’s why they’re getting one. Because WB know it’ll make bank because lots of fans want it.
