By diehard Go To PostI enjoyed "Ted Lasso".It's really good. Good to see Bill Lawrence doing good comedy again.
DY ... they’re gonna do one a week releases of the expanse. I’m glad though cause I would of killed myself from lack of sleep last night after episode 3.

Can’t believe they ended it like that with “belters never dream big”. audibly playing. My question is: How big was that? Looked a fuck ton bigger than those nuke comparisons earlier ... and I gotta wait a fuckin week?!?!?! 😬😭🤣
damn fuck Ali Larter
also idk how i never realized that DL was from Drumline. i love that movie and Heroes.

By Not Go To PostWow remember Hayden PanettiereYeah, the star of Until Dawn.
That's unexpected, I really need to watch it someday. Caught some scenes on TV a few times and it looked very bizarre.
I remember that guy from Heroes. Cool character, and Larter was shite. Unsurprised that Kring kept around the useless one, even going so far as to recast her after the character died, the fucking hack. Also remember everyone calling out how stupid his character's death was, given he could just phase through the shot, as he himself noted
I always felt bad for the Irish girl who got taken to the past, iirc, and the main character forgot about her because of the writers striker.

which is weird because i fucking hate country music

She didn't get taken to the past, she got taken to a post apocalyptic virus/plague future and left there. Dude never rmentions her again either.
The Mandalorian turned into fan fiction. The type of fan fiction everybody has been waiting for. And I love it. I don't know why I'm such a sucker for the most possible, safe and maybe boring outcome, when it comes to Star Wars.
Everything successful is tarnished by the safest road to profit eventually

By Cleff Go To PostAlso they announced a new show that they didn't mention during the Disney Expo earlier this week.I don't think it's a new show.
It's the next chapter/season of The Mandalorian. Just a different Mandalorian. Coincides with the date that has been announced for Season 3.
I think having sat on it a little, I’m becoming increasingly concerned with how small this universe has become.
Grogu going with Luke implies his fate winds up linked to Kylo’s in some way. Boba returning to Tatooine means we spend even more time on that planet. And the way it ended means its now a year until we pick up with Gideon and Mando, and the interesting story between them - which is Grogu - is handwaved away with ‘I got what I wanted’ when actually I’m not that fussed about this darksaber business because it leans so heavily into lore and not what made the show interesting in the first place, which was its detachment from Star Wars as we knew it. I’m not one for getting excited purely because I see things that are traditionally comic/CGI transferred into live action, as if that immediately makes it better and more meaningful. The show has changed from an interesting spin on what Star Wars can be to just a whole load of Star Wars, and that’s disappointing overall despite me enjoying it as a thrill ride in the moment.

By n8 dogg Go To PostI think having sat on it a little, I’m becoming increasingly concerned with how small this universe has become. This is exactly what I've been saying how I've been feeling about this season. It's gone slowly from introducing characters from Clone Wars, which is fine because I don't watch that, to just narrowing and narrowing and narrowing. The finale was nice, it felt like a good episode of TV, but it leaves me with a mildly hollow feeling.

Where the first season felt like "The Mandalorian", this increasingly felt like "Star Wars: The Mandalorian"
finished the last season of Supernatural

2020 man. hope to see more of Jensen Ackles, dude is charismatic as fuck. he's got a role in the next season of The Boys.

I don't know if ill finish season 6 but if there's one thing for sure is that Dean carries the show and Sam is expendable. alt reality this is the teamup that happens in season 6
i didn't know this a series people actually watch outside of horse girls that are heavily invested in the shipping of the two protags.

honestly i wish i skipped season 6 and 7 altogether. it took as long to watch those two as it did the first 5. i think i'm somewhere in season 9 continuity wise but i've seen a lot of the later season eps (12 and beyond) just hanging out w/ my dad and watching TNT during the day.

I was initially annoyed with Luke being included - that and the blatant "It's that Rogue One scene but with Luke!" framing of it.
I think I'm alright with it though. Logically, it could really only be Luke who answered the call. He's in the process of trying to rebuild the Jedi. I also think him proactive in finding and training Grogu serves as a nice reference to TLJ - he felt he had to train and restore the order because he was Luke Skywalker. The contrast between him and Ahsoka is telling in terms of where their thought processes were.
I'm hopeful they can give the Mando a sense of purpose if Grogu is indeed gone for good. I personally hope they focus on the retaking of Mandalore, and how Din views himself as a Mandalorian. He's now broken his cardinal rule and has the Darksaber - hopefully the next season gives him a meaningful stake in that particular conflict,
as it's only a silly tradition that prevented Bo Katan from taking the weapon back. He doesn't give a shit right now.
Mando finale is the most emotion I’ve ever felt from Star Wars. Hope they don’t go with Boba though. He’s a fun side character but Din is basically a much better version of him.
By n8 dogg Go To PostThis is a good summation of how I felt in retrospect about the finale
Yeah gotta say: Film Crit is wrong. About everything. And just making the essay 7000 or 70000 words long, doesn't make it right. I know what he is trying to argue, but it's simply not the case.
It could have been Kyle Katarn. It could have been Yaddle or it could have been a random stranger. Yes it's borderline fan fiction - but it makes absolute sense that it was Luke. And on the other hand it would have always come to this outcome, no matter what. Mando, Din was always going to give Grogu away at one point or another. That was his mission. Think about the alternative. I'll come back to it later
There are two rationales of the direction of the show that I've heard quite often now.
1) There are those who want "The Mandalorian" basically to be a "Kung Fu" style serial. The wanderer, doing job after job on different planets. Expanding the known canon universe. Creating new stuff.
Absolutely valid approach and something that must be done sooner or later.
But also runs the risk of getting stale and feeling samey or even "sidequest" video-gamey as some might argue.
2) Others recognize that Star Wars is in dire need of "repairs" a mending and course correction of the cavalcade of garbage that are the extremely disjoointed and disconnected prequels, OT and sequels. They want the blanks filled in. The EU that has been ripped away reintegrated. They want the overall universe and timeline that JJ and friends just shat out, make sense.
Filoni and Favreau are navigating this tightrope and started at 1 and are now deep at 2. Unfortunately not everyone is a fan of this.
So going back to the specifics of the finale:
So what could have been the alternative? A different jedi sure. But still it would have the same outcome and it would raise the fair question and point: we have to see what happens to Grogu since we don't know this person who took him.
The other alternative: no one shows up and we continue the "Kung Fu" wanderer and the kid approach for x seasons.
Looking at the money machine baby yoda is, it's pretty brave to depart the tried and tested gunslinger & the kid formular.
So no I don't think it's a cheap nostalgia plug putting Luke in or lazy writing.
I actually think it's kind of brilliant and increases the impact of that final scene. They are giving the number 2 fans exactly what they are yearning for. The fan fic Luke scene. There it is. But at the same time that what they wanted the most, takes away what they and incidentely Din loves most, Baby Yoda/Grogu. The impact of the high and the following low gets increased.
Mando completed his mission. There is no cliffhanger. The story of these two ends here. And as Star Wars fans, knowing what happens to Luke's academy, it feels even worse. (I don't suspect most to know who actually died during Kylo's purge but that's a different story).
So here we are at our lowest. Yeah the Darksaber bullshit wasn't solved but that doesn't even matter. Even the pick me up of the Boba Fett stinger is designed the same way.
TV show about Boba? Boba Fett is the main character of the next season?!?! My dreams have been answered OMGoooooooooood.
And they switch the telly off and want to get to the message board… but the feeling that keeps on lingering is that of…
...
I think it's a brilliant bait and switch - and I think Filoni and Favreau understand they have to switch between catering 1 & 2 to keep everybody happy. Reinventing what the show is after only 2 seasons is mroe than bold to say the least. So I really don't get these complaints from Film Crit.
Mando stuff:
I think one of my issues with Luke is that he has very little meaningful interaction with the cast - specifically Din I may not want the show to become full of fanservice, but they've done a decent job of bouncing the established personalities against Din - Ahsoka especially was a good example of this.
Here, Luke gets a scene to look cool. Then he says he's a Jedi, let's Din have his goodbye and then takes Grogu. We all know Grogu is in good hands because it's Luke - but Din has no idea who he is. Grogu is happy to go, but the near instant acquiescence of Din is weird. Luke really didn't do or say anything different to Ahsoka, the difference was that he actively wants to train him.
I dunno. If you replace Luke with a random new Jedi and give them exactly the same scenes and dialogue, I think a lot more people would notice that the scene is a bit weird. The embrace between Din and Grogu is fantastic, but I don't feel Luke the character was actually utilised all that well - which is a shame.
There was a lot of the episode I liked, mind. I don't even really [dislike/i] Luke coming in. It just felt a bit off.
Edit: I have no idea why this post is laid out like it is.

I don't think anyone should be concerned about "hashing the buzz" of other people.
Other people generally don't give a shit.

star wars cant help but just end up pandering to the OG trilogy fans at every way it seems
what a terribly small universe

The best thing Rian ever did was try to move the franchise away from the Skywalkers. Disney clearly likes to only pander to that family lineage and it's sad.
By reilo Go To PostLuke Skywalker is arguably the least interesting main character in Star WarsYou won't feel that way when you see him do some sweet af backflips.
Haven't even watched the new episode but smh they just can't leave the past be in the past and make a new thing huh
TLJ is a fucking crap, long slog of a movie but somehow Star Wars fans are convinced that a character telling Finn that both the bad guys and the good guys buy weapons is deep, grey morality that really makes you think, and totally breaks the limits of the old dark vs light side Star Wars.
Slaent : wow the star wars universe is so small, these tie ins sucks
