By Perfect Blue Go To PostWe have an apartment viewing on Friday at this new building in our neighbourhood that's absolutely gorgeous. Prices have gone down due to COVID-19 so this two bedroom spot and almost 800 sq ft goes for just around what we pay now for a dinky one bedroom in an older building. Pretty excited, love this neighbourhood and it's close to the subway and my girlfriends' parents.Viewing went well. The place is lit and the apartment is bougie as all fuck. In-unit laundry, AC, two bedrooms, two free months rent lol.
Looks like we are getting it. Glad we got to see it in person because people are hunkering down for COVID-19 again in the city and the place is only doing virtual tours after today.
My wife and I signed up for the local YMCA holiday program to help less fortunate families/kids. We got assigned two kids for Christmas. One wants a giftcard to Hobby Lobby/Marshalls so that they can build "memories" for their family. The other wants board games and slippers. We were fully prepared for much more on the wish list, but these two kids wanting these fairly inexpensive items hit me. Really puts things in perspective
smokey donating his time as a family man. got no time to watch the Rockets rebuild.
I can respect that.

I'm thinking about giving to Toys for Tots this year
Just doing our part where we can. Especially with COVID wrecking people this year health wise and with unemployment.

Can't believe it's actually been ten years already since my father passed away from pancreatic cancer.

When I'm at the hospital, the liver department is right above the cancer one.... and jesus man. Seeing extremely young people be what looks like on the edge of dying from cancer is terrible, and probably even worse is seeing the parents. Even more with Rona where visiting is limited a lot and so on.
Really fortunate that no one ever died of cancer in my family, or even had it.
We get everything else instead

Since I've visited my gfs father regularly when he was in the hospital I saw that cancer department pretty often. That shit was really rough.

Can't imagine working there and not getting your soul crushed.
By batong_doicare Go To PostTurns out that the pancreas is a vital organ
My mum had huge trouble getting pancreas to function properly. She looked like she aged 10 years just days after stay in hospital.
That organ might be the secretively most important organ in the body, or at least the one that you never think about the most.
By FortuneFaded Go To Postm8, do any of your organs work?
It works fine. It was a side effect of my liver being fucked m8. When you get stents placed in it, with an ercp, there is a good chance of it happening
There is no way I will ever share a bathroom with another person again

Having a lot of problems at work. Over the last year our department has seen a lot of change. Our old senior management left and were replaced by a new team.
I think one of the newer underlings (only word I can think of) has gotten into the senior managers ear and told him I'm not putting in the work. Which is just not true. For the last month he's had me send him a daily KPI listing of what I've done for the day. My job is dependent on what's sent in to me and needs input from a few of my colleagues before it gets to me to action. So my totals vary day to day. But over the last week or so I've been pretty much up to date with everything.
So I sent this evening's KPIs and he responds within minutes asking why the amount is so low? It's because I'm fully up to date and what was needed to do today was done. He only wanted the KPIs because he thought I wasn't working. Surely the fact that I'm fully up to date is a sign that I'm working?
At this stage I'm pretty sure they want me to leave of my own volition. I don't think they can sack me because they don't have the grounds to do so. But they're making it difficult for me to stay. It's just really getting to me now. There's a lot of good people there who I'm good friends with and I'd rather not leave. I think half the problem probably comes down to the fact that everyone is working remotely from their own homes. Can't have meetings to hash out problems.

By Lunatic Go To PostThanks lads. It's only a 30minute flight. Already at the beach villa.
Absolute fucking lad. Have fun bruv.
By Yurtlicious Go To Postsounds like you work in planning right? I'm not sure they can actually pin any delays on you lmaoThey really can't pin anything on me I think. Had a small run in with that same underling yesterday. Asked me why such and such hadn't been done since last Thursday evening. I was on annual leave that Friday and our system for logging payments was down the following Monday. And on Tuesday I was doing other work. Sent a pretty forceful email about it and I guess that was reported to the boss? I dunno.
Haven't replied yet to the query on why KPIs are low. Had an email drafted out outlining my position and how I'm satisfied with where I am with work etc. There were a few paragraphs in it. Then copped on and remembered why say in a paragraph what can be said in sentence. Just gonna reply that I'm entirely up to date with work. He'll get teh picture.
The job has become extremely political in recent times which it never was before. Really unpleasant tbh.

Yeah definitely brevity not least since the more you say can be thrown back at you at a later date, and a multi-para email looks defensive. I would perhaps invite them to discuss ways in which you can do more which you are of course always happy to do. You may not feel it's fair that you do so but putting out the offer looks good and this is as much about appearances at the end of the day.
Document work coming in and work going out. Show them that you're handling your business. Go over underling's head, talk with the superior and try to figure out what's what. Be professional and calm 100% of the way.
Thanks for the advice guys. Probably got myself into some of this mess with the mail I sent. Def better to keep communications short and to the point. For the minute I'll just say I'm up to date with work. Things had been fairly ok for the last couple of weeks until the run in yesterday. The KPI thing was a nonsense to begin with but I'd sent them in and received a sporadic thanks.
