By Facism Go To PostMy sister in law's mother grew up in a communist nation. Was actual hell.
I find the whole “we’ve never tried true communism” thing to be accurate, but not for reasons most give. We just aren’t there technologically. Not close really. The demand for labor has to fall to zero and scarcity of resources needs to stop being a concern for it to have a chance IMO. One day we’ll all have 3D printers and, cyborg brains and robots Doing all the lifting. One day lol

can't even put on a mask, they're a long way off.

It's because the weakest link is the humans.

We're closer than we were. No large scale conflict for 80 years, standard of living higher, information more resource intensive to suppress
Keep pushing

meh
no major world wars only because we developed a weapon so powerful it can destroy the entire planet

Is a stalemate the only possible utopia for humans? We're the descendants of a species that genocided its way to the top

Ehhh scarcity is a motherfucker. I feel like if we’re smart enough to remove scarcity from the equation we’re smart enough to collectively not be corrupt.
And before you go: “that assumes the flow of technological progress is democratic” I would counter with “REVOLUTION!”
ive been thinking about it for a while and no way would we actually alow a post scarcity world to happen, therell always be rich people withholding shit on purpose to create a demand
I'm not laying into Xpike here. It's just that modelling human behaviour on any set of consistent traits / patterns is like trying to successfully copulate with an ant.

To some extent yeah ...
I mean what ... widely used fusion / an advanced 3D printer in every dwelling / robots. Basically we gotta be at a stage where there’s nothing to do but learn.
It’s pipe dreams for you and i

Just thinking about the totalitarian society my grandparents lived in/my parents were born into: weren't able to vote in local elections, gerrymandering, religious discrimination in employment/housing, oppressive state forces attacking the minority group. Thankfully the UK is a better place than it was in the late 60s
Sy's grinding has helped me tough out learning some new skills of my own the last few days. Been learning a lot about Docker containers (software stuff) and IPv6 networking stuff. Last week and weekend was spent figuring out how to get Pi-Hole running in a Docker container and processing IPv6 requests correctly.
This week (and probably further out, too, tbh) will be learning about how to create and run a Kea DHCP server inside a Docker container for my home network. My current router doesn't have much in the way of DHCP configuration, so this is to take away that responsibility from it while also just increasing my general Docker knowledge (which is getting to be more important with software dev the last couple years).

If it wasn’t for the parentheses, I woulda assumed you really did a deep dive In khakis this weekend

Any of you lot got experience of trying to weigh a pet at home? We're getting readings all over the place between different scales, both carrying the cat and weighing her in her case.
Not sure how best to get an accurate measure

Electrical scales are a bitch, or at least the ones I've used, because they have a tendency to retain values and show them again if the differences are only minimal. If you have an old school scale, then both options you've tried would work.

Weigh it.
Put cat in it. Weigh it again.
Subtract first number from second number.
Oh missed last sentence, how is it so off is cat moving too much?
If cat is chill in a smaller cardboard box do that tbh. Put some catnip in there.
i agreed to give one of our newer folks a ride to work because his car's fucked up and he lives right around the corner from me
of course this dude is one of those "early to work and late to leave" types so he's at my door before i've even gotten out of bed lol
i never knew because i'm barely in the office to begin with
