By Doicare Go To PostPick whatever manager in the world you like & put them in charge with the current squad & injuries, would United be doing significantly better?
So what is it now? The current squad, the injuries or just bad luck? They were playing abysmal and losing games before the injuries, yet in the last few weeks, you complained all the loses were due to the injuries. You are getting as inconsistent as your team now.
Very sloppy character work here.
By Doicare Go To PostPeople keep shitting on Solskjaer but whenever i challenge anybody to specifically name the things he's factually done wrong (not just spout opinions) it suddenly goes very quiet.
You want to give Ole the job of rebuilding. Is he the savior, the chosen one to lead United back on top? Please. The guy couldn't lead Molde to the top. How is he supposed to do it at United with an inept board he is unwillling to challange? Nobody is saying he is the top problem. We all seem to be in absolute agreement that it's the board that is messing up. But you gotta have somebody who puts them into their place, or at least has the qualities to guide them to the right solutions.
By Doicare Go To PostIs he playing the wrong formation every week? Formation doesn't matter, what you do with it is of importance.
Is he constantly picking the wrong players? Counterquestion: who are the starting 11 right now? Who is the first name on the team sheet? Other than de Gea and Maguire I couldn't say. If all injured players are back I'd struggle even harder to say.
Are his tactics wrong? Setpiece defense is a major issue, offensive is without any structure or game play against deep sitting defensive lines. Players have no idea when to press and how to react once the situation (or rather the scoreline) changes to the negative. We could go on.
Does he not have the support of the dressing room? Not form the senior players. They seem just as uninterested as before.
Does he not rotate enough & if he doesn't is it because the squad he inherited isn't good enough? Ask Rashford
Are the signings he's made been bad? No, but they aren't helping either.
Are the players he's got rid off the wrong ones? No, but getting rid of them without getting proper replacements was mental.
By Doicare Go To PostSolskjaer isn't an elite manager but he's made very few mistakes & he's doing pretty much the best with what he has. Ed Woodward & the Glazer family are the problem, they constantly fail to get the number of players each manager asks for & Woodward is so shit at negotiating transfers he either fails to get them done at all or he overspends.
Agreed. But if you want to properly "rebuild" getting a manager who knows what style he wants to play, what philosophy behind the procurement of players should be heeded and someone who is able to motivate United players is necessary. Half of the squad on the pitch still look like they don't care, as if they're only there for the paycheck. The young lads he integrated into the squad started well, but seem to have regressed.
The shoes Ole has to fill are simply too big for him.

Surprisingly little these days. Three months ago we were the kings of it.
Arsenal are truly the unluckiest team because if we had a bit more luck under Wenger then we would have a starting three of Ronaldo-Ibra-Messi.

Just graded my students work. One of the questions asked to use 2 numerical examples to determine whether it is better to be 50% richer then 50% poorer or 50% poorer then 50% richer.
One group decided these were there two examples:
$100 -> $150 -> $75
$50 -> $25 -> $37.5
They concluded that it was better 50% richer then 50% poorer.
This is why Trump won.

By Punished Go To PostThis is a bad take and you should feel bad for posting it. If you watched the game you'd know why. He was our best attacking outlet (which says something in itself because he is not the best in this side), getting crosses and taking players on. We haven't had a RW in 7 years so he had no cover, and no attack by Burnley from that space he vacated resulted in anything positive for them. Goals were a set piece and lost ball while he was in position. Like, it's one of the few things you could say was a pretty calculated risk. Take a look at heat maps and compare average positions and maybe you can pretend to make a point in good faith. He didn't defend because we were not playing defense in the first place, and Burnley only had one move.

What does the board think of not taking the Bruno Fernandes deal? That agents and clubs would suddenly think 'oh shit, we can't take advantage of United's financial situation' anymore?
Does he think it would be better once we are out of the CL again, and trying to get players who would rather go elsewhere than the club that's sinking deeper into obscurity?

By Laboured Go To PostIs he playing the wrong formation every week?If you want to play 4-3-3 then you need two world class number 8's (with atleast one of them being a creative number 8), with Pogba out injured for almost the entire season who are these mythical world class number 8's that United have in their squad? And don't say McTominay, he's a defensive player who's also been out injured for months. When you play 4-3-3 you realistically need to play possession based football with a solid defense because if you keep giving the ball away your one defensive midfielder can't cover all the spaces & a poor defense will continuously conceed goals (even more so than United already have). Apart from Pogba United don't have any high technical level midfielders & even he isn't a David Silva level of player when it comes to keeping hold of the ball.
Not every week, but quite often yes against 'worse' teams. 4-2-3-1 is non-optimal against teams that sit back and is much too cautious. It also relies on having a top class no. 10 which we do not have. 4-3-3 would be a better shape for those games.
By Laboured Go To PostIs he constantly picking the wrong players? You want Luke Shaw to play instead who is terrible at crossing the ball? For months on this forum people have been shitting on Luke Shaw & saying Williams should play instead. Now Ole's given Williams a run of games where he's played really well apparently that's now a problem. The fact is Williams has been better going forward than Shaw & this is backed up with Williams having 0.9 key passes & 0.9 successful dribbles per game compared to Luke Shaw's 0.7 & 0.5. As for Andreas Pereira he's very average but he still creates 1.4 chances per game which is more than any other United player that isn't called Pogba. Greenwood is a great young player with lots of potential but being a player maker isn't one of his skills, he's only created 0.2 chances per game & only has 1 assist from over 1200 minutes of playing time this season.
Not constantly and certainly not one of his major sins, but by way of example last night he used right footed Williams against a low-block team when a left footer who would go on the outside and cross would be better as AWB demonstrated. Using AP over Greenwood was also a poor decision.
By Laboured Go To PostAre his tactics wrong? While i agree zonal marking from set pieces has been poor United's lack of scoring goals from set pieces isn't Solskaer's fault. It's not as if Ole is picking the wrong player to take these corners & freekicks, United don't have an elite level crosser of the ball, & then when they have created chances Maguire has fluffed his lines & failed to score on numerous occasions when he should have buried the chance.
Wrong is the entirely wrong word to use. They could be better and you have already admitted to him not being an elite manager. His strategy against bigger teams has been decent (although the losses against Liverpool and Arsenal were quite poor and show that teams might be getting smart to the rather one-note counter attacking strategy we use). Against low-blocking teams his tactics are very, very poor. He mostly relies on creativity from the no. 10 position while he knows all of our no. 10s are extremely shit. We constantly cannot break these teams down. Aimless possession and low-probability long shots. A good manager would find different ways to break these teams down but he constantly tries the same thing.
I don't even want to get into how he sets up our defenders on set pieces. The stats speak for themselves. As do the stats for our attacking set pieces.
The loss to Liverpool was poor (but they are the best team in the world right now) & Arsenal was an average performance (they were lucky to score with two deflected crosses) but in both games United were crippled by injuries to their star players it's nothing to do with being figured out. Against low block teams United are badly missing Pogba due to injury, it's not a choice made by Ole to not play his most creative player, and it's not as if United's fullbacks are great at crossing the ball either so that's why they go through the middle. So what's the plan you keep getting Wan-Bissaka & Williams with their average crossing to try & pick out Martial who is poor in the air?
By Laboured Go To PostDoes he not rotate enough & if he doesn't is it because the squad he inherited isn't good enough? It's funny how people talk about not rotating players enough only when a player gets injured. Jürgen Klopp the manager everybody is sucking off as the greatest manager in the world right now has played Virgil van Dijk 30 times this season, Maguire has played 31, are people going to argue with a straight face 1 game is the difference between great game management & over playing? With Liverpool's front three they've played a combined total of 5179 minutes in the league, United's first choice front three have played 5167 minutes, again no difference there. Last season Salah started 37 out of 38 games, the list of examples like this goes on.
No he doesn't. Injuries to our best players on long game streaks are a good example of this. Anyone could've seen the Maguire and Rashford injuries coming from a mile away. The squad he inherited of course isn't good enough. He has effectively made it worse by selling lots of players without replacing them. That is not all his fault, but a better more commanding manager would have ensured that doesn't happen - see Conte.
People were screaming all summer long that lots of players needed to go and they are still moaning about it now, if Solskjaer didn't get rid of all those underperforming players on high wages people would be saying he's soft for not doing it, you're damned if you do & damned if you don't. Do you honestly think Ole only wanted three new signings in the summer or do you think Ed Woodward is an incompetent moron who didn't bring in enough players? United have had 5 new managers since Fergie left & none of them have 'commanded' Ed Woodward, he does what he wants. Do you think Mourinho isn't a commanding manager? If Conte was the manager of Manchester United zero extra signings would have been made because Woodward is the problem.
By Laboured Go To PostAre the signings he's made been bad?Solskjaer picks the players he wants, Woodward is the one who overpays.
No they are fine, but they are not exactly a masterclass in smart buys either. Maguire and AWB were very expensive and well-known quantities.
By Laboured Go To PostAre the players he's got rid off the wrong ones?Again it's not Solskjaer's fault Ed Woodward is a moron who can't bring in the amount of players asked for.
Nope, for the most part. Again, you can't sell 8 first team squad players and only bring 3 in. He's not strong enough to hold the club's leaders to account and that is fundamentally a huge problem.
